Adrian alighted from his car to enter into the resort office. The staff members who were shocked to see him appear in their building, stiffened and gave enough way for him to walk past them. Most of them were in awe and frightened at the same time. Every head bowed a little in respect while the man’s head was held high. Not sparing a single glance at his employees, he walked into his cabin. It has been more than a month since he went through the files related to the resort in Kinsale. Work has become hectic for him as he was working on five plans at once. One resort was going to be built towards the east-end extending it to southern mountains. While the other four were hotels being built in four different countries. As he was going through a file, he saw his phone buzz and picked it up after two three rings because of the irritating ringtone from his phone which was causing disturbance.
“Mr. Earnshaw,” Adrian greeted professionally after taking the call. When the voice from the other side spoke; “I’m not in a rush, Mr. Earnshaw. I can wait as long as you want. But let me remind you, I do not appreciate if my land issues take too long. I need it to be completed on time, as per our agreement.” Adrian used his professional tone which he often use. Even though Adrian was a bit irritated with the man pestering him about their deal, he agreed to wait only because it would benefit him.
Adrian got up from his seat and moved to the window as he spoke on the phone. “That’s alright, Mr. Earnshaw. I’ve already decided, and I am not going to step back, you have my word,” Adrian assured and after exchanging few words, he ended the call.
Just when he was returning to his chair, he saw two women standing in front of resort office. His eyes settled on one woman who held a file in her small fingers. He doesn’t remember having a good conversation with her nor does he know her name. Yet, the woman has succeeded in making a remarkable impression. She was beautiful, her emerald eyes were attractive, she didn’t look like a person who needed a job, yet she was desperate enough to convince his grandmother to find her a job. He hates such people. If she was a capable person, she could’ve got a job based on her qualifications, but she being over smart, tricked his grandmother to give her a job. God knows what will happen once she starts working. He could’ve rejected her, if it wasn’t for his stubborn grandmother who demanded to give her a job, he would’ve never ever let her stand in front of his building. The girl was lucky enough to get the job, but he wondered if she could manage to stay here for too long.
His eyes met hers for a mere second, he was about to shift his gaze but the woman was quick enough to turn back to her friend in nonchalance, which only made him wonder if she saw him or if she was pretending she hasn’t seen him but there was no doubt that she didn’t recognise him. She saw him yet she dared continue her chitchat when she was supposed to report by nine. He checked his watch to see the time. It was five to nine. He went back to his desk and dialed a number in telephone. “Whoever comes to submit their joining report, send them to me.” Adrian spoke and ended the call. He could’ve mentioned that it was a woman, but he didn’t.

Amelia walked into the building with a file in her hands. She knew that her name including her details were with the Schneiders’ now. A part of her was confident that there was no way people would recognise her and there was another part of her that was nervous because of the connections Schneiders’ have across the globe. She took a deep breath and encouraged herself to think positive. She strode to the hallway. Amelia found a woman seated in a chair, whom she guessed to be a receptionist. Pausing her work, the receptionist raised her head to meet Amelia.
Amelia’s eyes found the receptionist’s name tag, Leah Brown. Amelia exchanged a smile with the woman named Leah before she asked, “Hello. My name is Amelia…”
She gave a thought if she should use her surname but gave up. “I am here to submit my joining report. I…”
“This way please,” the woman got up from her seat to lead the way. Amelia wondered if the woman knew about her arrival while she followed the woman’s lead and took a left. She saw the doors of an elevator open for her to walk in. “Fifth floor. Take a right and you’ll find the room.” Saying, the receptionist went back to her desk. Amelia looked to her right and then to her left to see if she had a company, but none were with her, she pressed on the button number five. After reaching Fifth floor, the door was opened for her to walk out of the elevator. The floor was so quiet that she could hear the sound of her heels echoing in her ears.
“Get out!” she heard a loud voice coming from a room, in which was supposed to go. A woman came out of the room with tears in her eyes. Amelia frowned at the sight of the woman in front her who walked past her as tears rolled down on the woman’s cheek, but Amelia neither tried to talk nor did she look at the woman again as she continued to stride towards the room. It was after standing at the threshold of the room, she understood to whom she was supposed to submit her joining report.
“Excuse me, Sir.” She tried to gain his attention.
The man didn’t respond to her nor did he even look at her. She didn’t know if he was pretending to not notice her presence or if he didn’t hear her.
“Don’t you think you’re taking too long to enter?” Adrian’s voice was deep and calm. She snapped out of her thoughts and took a seat after he hand-signed her to take a seat.
Amelia didn’t know why, but her heart was beating rapidly. It was not because she was afraid of him, but it was because of the questions he might pose her since he was here.
“Name,” he demanded with his eyes fixed on a file related to his resort’s construction plan.
“Amelia…” she answered. She noticed his eyes soften for a mere second before they turned cold again.
“Name,” he used the same tone but this time there was a bit of irritation in his voice.
“Amelia… Amelia Santiago,” she blurted and gulped when she realised that she just lied to him. What if he looks at her details? She was trying her best to be confident. She hasn’t expected him to be here. She was no way lucky, if she was a woman with luck, he wouldn’t have been here.
“Ms. Santiago,” he said. Her grip on the file tightened as he mentioned her as ‘Santiago’.
“When I ask you something, I expect a proper answer from you,” his tone was irritably calm.
“Sure, sir.” she mumbled. She started to regret accepting the old woman’s offer, she should’ve turned down the offer without hurting the woman somehow.
“Good. What are your qualifications?” he posed a question after he relaxed on his chair. Amelia was taking her time to answer his question. Would he doubt her if he she said where she was graduated from? He will surely doubt, and it would only trigger to unnecessary attention from him and she didn’t want that to happen.
Looking at the girl who was not answering to his question, he decided to speak thinking her qualifications were not good enough to meet his company’s standards. If she was a qualified person, she wouldn’t have approached his grandmother, the thought itself was making him feel sick. “I know you requested my grandmother to offer you a job but let me make it clear. This job is given to you not as per your qualifications. If you impress me with your work I will assure you that you will be given a better position, am I clear?”
Amelia was taken aback at his words. Did he just say she requested his grandmother for a job? Seriously? Amelia started to doubt if he really was the young billionaire who successfully reached in top five billionaires’ position.
“I am sorry to say this to you sir, but you’re mistaken. It wasn’t me who requested your grandmother for a job. It was Mrs. Schneider who offered me to work here, provided my profile suits the job and I accepted it.” Amelia made herself clear meeting his eyes.
“But that doesn’t change the fact that you’re here by recommendation.” He pointed with arrogance.
Amelia gritted her teeth. The man was making her feel frustrated. This conversation was nowhere professional, it was more like a personal grudge.
“I agree with you, Mr. Schneider. I am here on recommendation but as you said, my position will be based on my hardwork; which means even if you’re grandmother helped me, I will be working in you’re company judging my work,” Amelia replied in a professional tone. Adrian stared at her for few second and saw her fingers on her file.
“Your file?!” he stretched his hand for her to pass her file. If she wasn’t nervous before meeting him, then she was now.
