The time Amelia was given has come to an end. She had to meet him again but this time she was told to meet him at the construction site. The meeting was going to start at ten in the morning. Skylar had to leave early because she had to prepare few necessary things before the meeting started. Why wasn’t she being called to his office like the previous time. Was it not enough for him to reject her work inside the four walls that he wanted other people’s presence too this time?
By the time Amelia reached the place, everything was ready for the meeting. She exchanged a smile with Skylar who was standing at a corner in the room. “I see that you are not nervous,” Skylar stated.
“Why would I be?” Amelia shrugged. As they were speaking, they heard someone announce something which Amelia couldn’t grasp as she was busy talking to Skylar. Everyone in the room took their seats and so did Amelia, it wasn’t difficult for her to understand what the announcement was about, the arrival of the two powerful men. It was Trevor who entered the room first and followed by Adrian. Both men had an intimidating aura. It was their presence that made the whole atmosphere in the room change within seconds. Everyone in the room were silent, few were nervous. Amelia found unfamiliar faces in the room. She never came across them, she wondered who they were but that was again out of her concern.
While people in the room were ready, there was one man who was speaking. “… I think we need to start the meeting; you can discuss with him later…” Trevor spoke to Adrian.
“Fine,” Adrian cut down his words.
“Let’s start the presentations,” it was Trevor who announced without delaying a second, both the men hate to waste their time and that was known to every employee or their clients. The lights were off, and the screen was on. Skylar read out a name and a young man among the people stood and strode towards the podium next to the screen making Amelia’s lips part a little in shock. Realisation hit her hard, she was not the only one to give the presentation. The unfamiliar faces in the room were here to give their presentation. Why was she not informed about this? Skylar didn’t mention that the company was going to pick one member. This is not fair; she wasn’t informed anything about the things that were going to take place. Amelia looked at Adrian who was looking at her. They both stared at each other, the only difference was Amelia was fuming and starring daggers at him while he was lost in his thoughts.
Adrian didn’t know if he was taking the right decision by accepting the deal. It would surely make him more powerful in the business world but the path he chose was something against his principles. He was sure his grandmother would be furious, no, she would kill him if she comes to know the price he was going to pay for the deal. There was no way he would step back when he has given his word, he was raised to be a man of his words. No matter what he wouldn’t break his words. Adrian was immersed in his thoughts; lost in his world while his eyes were on Amelia all this while until the young man who was giving the presentation spoke. He looked away in a swift motion and focused on the presentation ignoring the glare she was sending him.
After three members completed giving their presentation, it was Amelia’s turn. Skylar called out her name, they both exchanged a quick glance, taking the opportunity, Skylar mouthed ‘all the best’ to Amelia. Gathering her files from the table, she passed it to Skylar who then passed the blueprints of her design to the two men who were seated in their chairs. Adrian’s secretary, Cain Stewart, was operating the laptop while Amelia started to give her presentation.
Adrian went through the designs observing the contrast from her previous ones. Adrian continued to look at the blueprints while listening to her the presentation. The day Amelia came to show her plans to Adrian, he didn’t reject her plans, he saw a potential in her that convinced him to give her another chance. The woman’s ideas were different than any of the interior designers he has met until now. Her designs were close to what you call home but in a classy and contemporary way. He presumed that is what he needed in his resort, a feeling of living with the nature, in the nature.
“The balcony will give a clear view of the mountains as well as the early sunrise instead of the streaming water,” Amelia spoke comparing with her present plan with the original design which was done by Trevor’s team.
Skylar was listening attentively to Amelia standing at one corner in the room. Her eyes shifted to her boss, Trevor who was looking at the blueprints on the table. As if sensing someone looking at him, he looked in her direction and gave her a soft smile before gazing away. That wasn’t the smile he gives while talking to other women, but it was the smile she always received from him.
“… Over the water, we can construct a bridge with glass to attract…”
Adrian’s eyebrows furrowed; he clearly saw the pendant on her neck that day. Every time he encountered this woman, she always did something that caught his attention, maybe he couldn’t stand her presence even now. Unlike his cousin *** business partner, he had no experience with women, but he could tell that the girl was a bit strange. He knows nothing about her, yet he pointed her mistakes though they can be ignored. After meeting her more than twice he realised he was wrong about her, he would never admit it in front of anyone that he was wrong but he knew he was wrong about her. A question arose on his mind when he realised she was the one whom he met in London. What could’ve made her to come all the way from to London to Wickhurst when she could’ve easily found a decent job with her skills. He was sure the girl was hiding something, she walked alone in the deserted road during late hours when it was drizzling. The day he asked her name and the file, she hesitated, why? Even though he noticed that day he was least bothered to ask her. He kept reminding himself that he should focus on the meeting, but his eyes betrayed him. His eyes carefully observed the girl who stood a little away from him. She was dressed in a pencil skirt and a white shirt above with sleeves. Her eyes were mesmerizing, why hasn’t he noticed them until today? Her hair was braided but few errant strands of her hair stood out. Her red lips parted as she spoke in her sweet voice. Without his knowledge, he was studying her but snapped out of his thoughts when he heard a soft cough from the person beside him who raised his eyebrow as if he saw through Adrian’s thoughts. Adrian narrowed his eyes at Trevor, ignoring his cousin’s smirk. He looked back at the blueprints not wanting her to distract him. What was wrong with him today?

Amelia and Skylar were currently watching a movie called ‘Sweet Home Alabama’ ; in the hall. They covered themselves with a blanket, the fireplace was stocked with wooden logs to make the room warm. Days passed and the climate changed from freezing cold to water droplets, the trees that were coated with thick layers of snow started to melt.
“What do you think, would she choose her husband or her boyfriend?” Amelia asked Skylar before stuffing her mouth with popcorn.
“I don’t want her to divorce her husband,” Skylar pouted.
“I wonder how her boyfriend reacts when he comes to know her real identity, Sky. Do you think he will forgive her?” Amelia spoke keeping her eyes focused on the movie that was playing. It took her a second to realise what she has asked. The woman in the movie also changed her surname, though their situations were a bit different their goal was same, a new life.
Skylar looked at Amelia. There were many questions on her mind she wanted to ask but dropped them aside. “Don’t you think she betrayed him? The trust he had on her… ”
Amelia felt phlegm in her throat while Skylar’s scrutinizing eyes didn’t leave her. “.. maybe she had her own reasons to lie…” Skylar added after pausing. Her words came out in a way she was telling herself rather than to Amelia.
A part of Amelia always felt a piercing pain in her chest when the thought of hiding about her life from her friend came into her mind. Maybe it is not a bad idea to tell her, she was sure that Skylar would keep her secret safe. There were times Amelia tried to tell Skylar about her, but something stopped her from telling and now she was starting regret the delay, it has been only a month and a half but her bonding with Skylar was stronger, stronger than she thought. Amelia decided to tell Skylar before the truth unfolds itself but waited for a perfect time to tell her friend.
