After the doors were closed, Amelia sighed looking at the dress on her body. Her dress turned a shade of red from the original grey colour because of the wine. She removed her stained piece of cloth and picked a long gown which was simple yet classy, it was perfect to her taste and for her body. Satisfied with the new dress she wore, she tried to zip it after putting a lot of efforts.
She picked up her stained dress that was on floor only to fall on the carpet when the doors were open with a force. She gulped in relief when she realised it was a dog. It was the same little dog she met near the beach, a few days ago. The dog woof stronger as he rushed to her making her giggle. She brushed it’s fur while she was still on the carpeted floor because of her twisted ankle. She tried to get up but she couldn’t. She waited for someone to help her but what she didn’t expect was the voice that came a few seconds later.
“Grandma!!”
Adrian was about to knock the door but stood at the threshold of the room. He didn’t move an inch when he found the young girl on the floor. His pet was being caressed by her. Amelia’s eyes met his gaze that didn’t leave her even after seconds passed. When she cleared her throat to speak, she saw his eyes narrowed at her as if she has done something wrong. It was a second later did she realise that he was looking at the dresses that were on the bed. She sighed thinking if the man misunderstood again, she wouldn’t be surprised even if he did. He has always pointed at her when it was never her mistake.
“Mrs. Schneider left with a maid. She might be at the party,” she informed him. “Your dog is cute,” she added.
“Are you going to stay on cold the floor all night, Ms. Santiago,” Adrian said, authority directed in his voice.
The audacity at the man, she glared at him when he bent down to get his dog into his arms ignoring her. “Please do not concern yourself on my behalf,” she replied curtly. Although she was aware of her surroundings, Amelia was least bothered that she was in his house not to forget, he was her boss but that didn’t mean she would let him disrespect her. Adrian watched her as she stood up, so she put a valiant effort not to wince.
“As you wish,” he left his grandmother’s room without giving her another glance. Adrian didn’t know if the woman was pretending or she had no clue about him or his pet. He was infuriated after seeing the dress she wore, he clearly knew who had the temerity for doing such thing, his grandmother should’ve known that he would never agree someone wearing those dresses.
When the old woman was half heartedly greeting the guests, she found her grandson striding towards her with a scowl. “You need to learn how to socialize from your cousin. You should learn how to smile,” Josephine spoke to Adrian.
“You can consult me anytime you want. I can spare some time for you, cousin,” Trevor, who was standing beside his grandmother spoke in nonchalance.
“Oh shutup, Trevor,” Adrian was in no mood to listen to them.
“Your cousin seems to be in a bad mood,” Josephine joked. Adrian was in a foul mood and it was clearly written on his face and it wasn’t something unusual.
“You’re right…” Trevor replied agreeing to his grandmother.
“Why did you give mother’s dresses to that woman?” Adrian said, a frown marring his handsome face.
“Amy you mean? The poor girl’s dress was stained with wine. I am sure your mother would’ve done the same thing,” Josephine explained.
“Don’t bring mother in between…”
“Calm down, Adri. We do not want our guests to see you have a frown look on our grandma’s party now, do we?” Trevor interrupted.
“Stop calling me Adri,” Adrian gritted his teeth. “You should’ve atleast consulted me before giving her my mother’s dresses, grandma,” Adrian said, indignant.
“Consult you?” the old woman shook her head. “Trevor, he’s being rude to me on my birthday. I’m leaving from here before he upsets me more,” Josephine puffed and left immediately. The old woman didn’t want her grandson to know that she had a glass of wine in her hand which she has been hiding. Trevor’s lips twisted into a smile when Adrian sighed at his grandmother’s dramatic speech.
” She had wine again, didn’t she?” he saw Trevor nod.
“I don’t understand why you’re furious to see Angel wearing aunt’s dress. Don’t you think she looks beautiful?” Trevor shifted his glance at Amelia who stood at the principal door. He saw her walk unsteadily but before he could analyse what was wrong with her, he turned his head to his cousin.
“Don’t you think you’re staring too long at her when people are around?” Adrian narrowed his eyes.
“Jealous, are we?” Trevor hummed having a sip of wine from his glass.
“Pity..” Adrian said. “Your mother is busy searching a girl for you in this party,” Adrian commented.
“Little does she know I’ve dated those beautiful women present here already and they are all boring,” Trevor brawled. “Except one,” he said looking at Skylar who was talking to his mother.
Adrian knew what he meant, “You better stay away from Skylar if you have any ill intentions in your mind,” Adrian warned him.
Trevor laughed. “I do not wish my mother or grandma to behead me, cousin.”
“Add me in the list,” Adrian added before he cocked his head to see a man walking towards them.
“It is a lovely evening,” The two men cocked their head when someone interrupted their conversation. “Mrs. Schneider seems to be in a good mood,” the man named Roman Eamrshaw commented looking at the old woman who had a smile on her face while chatting with her guests, which doesn’t happen often.
“I doubt,” Trevor mused. There was no way his grandmother would be happy talking to her guests.
“You’ve been ignoring my calls, Mr. Earnshaw. Was it because of the deal? Do you regret it now?” Adrian quired, attacking the man with his words. Roman was supposed to settle the issues with his land in London. It has been more than a month but there was no result. He started to doubt if the man was spouting nonsense when they met two months ago.
“Joining hands with you is no less than an achievement, Mr. Schneider. I’d never regret it,” the man had a smile which appeared to be a sly one in Adrian’s eyes. The three men continued to talk until Caden, his aunt came to call them.
“What are you two doing here. It’s time to cut the cake,” Caden, Trevor’s mother called them and then looked at the man who stood beside them, “Mr. Earnshaw. It’s good to see you,” she gave a polite smile and received one in return.
“Hope you enjoy the party, Mr. Earnshaw,” Adrian said before he shook his hand with the man.
After a short speech by her two grandsons followed by her daughter, Caden Wolfrik. The old woman cut the cake with a mask of cheerful smile on her face. Afraid that his grandmother would get into an unwanted arguments with the guests she disliked, Trevor suggested Adrian to drop their grandmother to her room. Agreeing with his cousin’s words, Adrian convinced his grandmother to take rest.
“My cheeks are aching. I must’ve smiled way too much,” commented Josephine pressing her jaw while her grandson walked beside her.
“I agree,” he nodded in agreement. His grandmother indeed had a bright smile.
“Did you find any woman of your liking?” was her question with curiosity.
“Is that how aunt Caden convinced you to throw a party?” Adrian frowned.
“Of course. Why do you think I would let those leeches come to my place,” she answered referring leeches to money diggers who were present in the party.
“Then why do you want me to find a woman who hails from such family?” Adrian asked her so that she would give up the idea of searching for a bride, as expected his grandmother was left with no words. Dropping his grandmother at her room and making sure she was taking rest, he left her room.
He saw his pet, wolf, bark at a waiter. Wolf only listened to him and it has been difficult for his servants to handle his pet. “Wolf!” Adrian called his dog but as always, his pet who loved running, made it’s way through the back door. Adrian followed his dog before it caused any trouble. He didn’t find wolf but he found someone. Precisely, it was a woman was in red dress. It didn’t take much time for Adrian to recognize the woman in the red dress was Amelia.
The lights were dim, but he could see her because of a lamp post a little away from her. She sat among the bushes with her chin placed on her knees and her hands around. He walked further without a second thought. Amelia, who heard the sound of dried leaves being crushed, raised her head to see Adrian. “Mr. Schneider…” her words came out in whisper with utter shock. What surprised Adrian was her sparkling eyes were now filled with tears.
“A young woman like you shouldn’t be wandering alone,” he said recollecting the day he met her. It was dark and drizzling that night, yet the woman wandered on the deserted roads where no cabs would be available during late hours.
Her ankle was paining when she moved her feet. She wondered how did she even manage to walk all the way. “I think you haven’t heed the words I spoke to you a while ago, Mr. Schneider. I was implying it is none your business.”
