Amelia was prepared for the situation she brought herself for affronting him but he merely seemed to ignore her words again, she thought, when she heard him ask.
“You don’t seem to be alright,” he said, with a tone of command though it was gentle.
Amelia moved her arm away from his sight when she saw him looking at her hand. “Your palm is bleeding,” he pointed, but the woman was being stubborn to take his help even though she needed one.
“I am fine,” she replied coldly. Why wasn’t he leaving? If she stayed for few more minutes, he would surely start his interrogation. It would be better if she leave the place, not to forget, it was his house and she should remember that she was his employee and not the other way around.
“Your words and your expressions are indicating something else,” Adrian didn’t know where his patience came from. If it was someone else he wouldn’t have bothered to even talk to her. He wasn’t offended by her words. He was giving her enough time to decide to take care of her wound but little did he know that the pain caused by her wound and her twisted ankle was not worth mentioning compared to the pain she was bearing in her heart.
He looked at her for a few seconds when she gave no response to his comment.
“I said…”
“Shhh..We don’t want you to faint because of excessive bleeding of your plam now,” Adrian stopped her from protesting when he took her hand in his to cover the wounded palm with his kerchief.
Amelia scoffed. “Was that lame joke of yours supposed to make me laugh now, Mr. Schneider?!”
“Atleast it stopped you from protesting. Follow me…” he ordered, gripping her wrist firmly but gently.
“I cannot,” she said showing her ankle. “My sprained ankle.”
“You should’ve said it sooner,” he shook his head. “I must say, you have quite a will power to walk till here with that ankle,” she chuckled at his words. She knew it wasn’t a praise but a taunt for walking around with her ankle while it was paining.
“Wait for me here,” with that, he left without listening to her opinion. Amelia sighed and waited for him. It didn’t take him much time for him to return.
He can’t be serious!
Amelia thought with her widened eyes, when she saw a first aid box in his hand.
“You don’t have to do it, trust me. I’m fine,” she protested.
“I insist,” he said, taking her hand again but this time he removed his kerchief before dabbed the wound with a cotton. Somehow, she felt the pain seemed to be reducing as Adrian continued to blow on her wound gently. Her heavy heart found solace in his company. Her eyes were fixed at him. She wondered how old could he really be. May be he was not much older than herself judging by his chiseled features. She shifted her gaze away instantly, chiseled features?
She flinched when he dabbed on her wound with a little amount of pressure. She turned her gaze again to him only to meet his mysterious eyes that was observing her. Why did it seem that he did it on purpose, as if to gain her attention. She saw a glint of smirk on his face which was almost left unnoticed by her if she wasn’t observing him, was she imagining things now?
He covered her wound with a bandage before he saw her swollen eyes staring deeply at him. They cocked their head when they heard Adrian’s pet, wolf bark. His pet came to Amelia and rested near her feet. “He likes me,” she beamed at Adrian, brushing wolf’s fur with her hand.
Now that he came across her along with his pet twice today, he wanted to confirm few things. “He never liked being touched,” Adrian said, standing on his feet.
“But he clearly likes it,” Amelia pointed at his dog to see him shook his head. “Really?” Amelia asked again to confirm when he replied with a yes, she recollected her memory that happened many days ago. “I saved a dog once. I yelled at the driver mistaking him for hurting an innocent animal. Your pet reminds me of the little one I came across that night,” she smiled at her memory.
Adrian looked at the girl who was petting his dog. He was pleased to see a change in her mood, finally. His lips twisted into a smile when he concluded that she wasn’t as bad as he thought. She could be fierce, stubborn and proud but at the same time, she was beautiful woman from inside.
“I never thought I would be saying this,” she raised her head to see the man with sharp eyes who looked no less than a model. “You are a good man.”
He raised his eyebrow at her comment playfully, “Let’s hope the man who almost killed the innocent animal is taking care of it,” he said not responding to her previous comment.
Before Amelia could think that she never uttered a word about giving the pet to the man, Adrian spoke to her. Saying, it was time they join the party.
“Mr. Schneider,” she felt her throat dry at the thought of joining the party. “Could you please do me a favour?” she requested.
Trevor has been busy talking to the guests. He cursed his brother for leaving the party as always. He should’ve dropped his grandmother instead of sending his cousin who has not returned yet. Trevor looked around to find his cousin hoping he would end the party with a speech. But there was no sight of Adrian. But caught his attention was his asistant who never failed to amuse him. She seemed to be like a lost soul among the crowd, he chuckled to himself. She walked past him looking everywhere but him and he didn’t like that he was being ignored. He caught her wrist making her turn to his side. The sudden action caused her to be pulled closer to him. “Why do you look like a lost kitten?” he asked looking into her worried eyes. She immediately, distanced herself from him before she could speak. “Have you seen Amy, Mr. Wolfrik?” she asked. So that was what bothering his asistant. Her friend was no where to be found among the crowd and so does his cousin. “I think you will get your answer soon,” he replied when he found Adrian striding towards them.
Skylar didn’t understand a single words he uttered. The man has always been that way, his twisted words always made her fall into a state of confusion. “You’re back,” Trevor had no idea about Adrian being with Amelia but a gut feeling told him they were together and as he predicted, Adrian’s words came out proving him right, “Your friend is waiting for you,” Adrian spoke to Skylar and told her where Amelia was waiting for her. The favour Amelia asked Adrian was to call Skylar because Amelia didn’t want to go back to the party not even to confirm what she has witnessed. She was not sure but she didn’t was to risk for confirming her doubt.
As soon as Adrian informed Skylar, she left in search of her friend. Adrian looked at his cousin who has been staring at him expectantly. “It is not like what you are thinking,” Adrian spoke.
“And what was I thinking?” Trevor rubbed his chin.
“Looks like my aunt has finally found a bride for you,” Trevor’s eyes widened at his cousin’s information. “Madeline Robsart.”
“You are kidding me, aren’t you?” Trevor was blown out.
“Have I ever?” Adrian replied. Trevor was shell- shocked to see a beautiful woman speaking to his mother.
“Amy. Where have you been. I don’t recall since how long I’ve been searching for you.” Relief took over Amelia’s fear when she saw her friend.
“What happened. What’s with your wound… And your dress?” Skylar asked when worry struck her. She didn’t know what happened. Amelia was in a different dress and there was a wound on her hand, her eyes were swollen. “Are you fine? Tell me something,” she showered her with questions which Amelia couldn’t answer at this moment.
“I’m fine. My ankle was twisted” Amelia finally replied but she could tell that Skylar was not satisfied with her reply. “We’ll go home and talk,” Skylar said and helped Amelia to stand in her feet. Fortunately, the mansion had three gates amd they came out from second gate. Amelia waited for Skylar while she left Amelia alone to get their car. Amelia stood under a tree with it’s support, a little away from the lamp post. She turned her head when she heard few men’s voice.
“You can’t be serious, Mr. Earnshaw. How long has it been?” a man asked another man named Eanrshaw in shock.
“More than a month,” the man replied.
“What are you going to answer when news spreads. You must be well aware that news spreads like a wild fire.” The man spoke.
“My men are trying their best. I received a news that she landed in Dublin,” Roman Earnshaw spoke to another man, puffing his cigarette for one last time before he extinguished his cigarette. “I cannot let my people search in Kinsale without Adrian’s knowledge.”
“Discussing this matter with the young man would be wise enough….”
The two men’s words disappeares into thin air. Amelia who stood behind the tree, hiding with her mouth covered with her free hand, could not believe what she has just heard. She gulped down trying to fight her tears that formed in her eyes. The man named Roman Earnshaw was in his mid sixties, with short black hair. He was one of the richest men in the business world. He was a cunning man and a money minded person with too much of pride. People who knew him were aware of his selfish deeds. Amelia’s doubt was now confirmed, she thought it was just her imagination. Now that she has seen the man, her father, talking with his friend about her, he was searching for her and there were chances he would take Adrian’s help.
