Amelia felt her cold tears roll down on either sides her cheeks. It was her father whom she saw earlier, before leaving the party with her sprained ankle. She wasn’t sure if it was him but the thought of her father’s presence made her weak and before she broke out into tears, she wanted to run away and she did, but her hasty movements ended up giving her a wound on her palm. It was only a doubt but she was too scared to even confirm. She was not sure if it was her father but if he was, she neither wanted him to see her nor did she wanted to see him. She was living her life peacefully even though a part of Amelia missed her father and wondered at time if at all he missed her or if he was still searching for her. After eavesdropping her father’s conversation with a man, she understood that her father was adamant to find her. What if he takes Adrian’s help, she didn’t want to be caged again.
Amelia snapped out of her thoughts when Skylar came to pick her up. Amelia wiped her tears before sge got into the car. She sat silently resting her head on the closed window with her eyes closed. Skylar didn’t know what has happened while she was not with Amelia. Judging by Amelia’s face, Skylar understood that her friend didn’t want to talk but at the same time she wanted to ask Amelia in hope of helping her.
After reaching home, Amelia rushed to her room without sparing a glance at Skylar. Not wanting her friend to leave alone, Skylar made a soup for Amelia. Skylar has never seen Amelia in such state, since the time she met her. The woman has always been with full of confidence and cheerful, Skylar always wondered how can she be so confident in everything she does. But looking at Amelia’s state right now, she felt her heart ache. She knocked Amelia’s door before entering.
“I’m sorry,” she heard Amelia say. Skylar brought a bowl of soup for Amelia and gave it to her. “Why are you sorry?” Skylar asked giving Amelia the soup which she made for her.
“I… I actually..”
“You don’t have to explain me anything, Amy. Have something and take rest,” Skylar suggested.
“No. I have to. You have no idea how much the thought of hiding things from you is eating my brain,” Amelia spoke.
“My ears are all yours…” Skylar smiled and took a spoon and blew it before feeding Amelia, “But before that, I want you to have your soup.” she commanded.
“He… He is here,” Amelia said in a faint voice after she completed having her soup.
“Who?” Skylar asked.
Amelia could feel tears forming in her eyes when she recalled her memory of tonight’s event, “my father. I saw him in the party today.”
“Your father?” Skylar asked in disbelief. Why would her father attend this party unless he was an elite or working staff? They can’t be from the latter background because the first time she met Amelia at the airport, she saw her with wallet full of hard cash and also the way she carries around herself does seem like she was well raised. But she didn’t know her parents were rich enough to attend the Schneider’s party. She recollected their conversation few weeks back when she said she ran away because of some issues at home; she never bothered to ask her and waited till Amelia is comfortable about sharing it herself.
“My name is not Amelia Santiago. It is Amelia Earnshaw, daughter of Roman Earnshaw,” said Amelia. It was clear that Skylar was blown out by hearing her name.
“What the hell !!” Skylar exclaimed with utter shock.
“Now that’s the reason why I had to hide it…” Amelia let out a small chuckle looking at Skylar’s face.
“You’re an Earnshaw,” Skylar repeated. The only heiress to Earnshaw enterprises and not only her father’s companies but also successor of her late mother’s business, Skylar thought. “Do you have any idea how many people would be jealous of you?”
“If only they tried to see in depth, they would’ve understood. After my mother’s death, I was dictated by my father all my life; right from when I wake up till I go to bed; the way I eat, sit, walk, talk and even dress myself. He wants me to be a prefect Earnshaw heiress who in the society is a smart and sophisticated woman everyone would look upto. My father preferred family prestige to me. He always dreamt about me to take over our family business, but I ended up being the opposite of the ideal child he wanted me to be. He thought I was not raised properly and he pampered me to much, but the fact was that he never spent time with me when I needed him the most. My mother fell sick when I was seven years old and died two years later. I spent most of my childhood with my nanny, Mrs. Santiago. She always took care of me and she was the only person who knew my likes and dislikes.”
Skylar listened to each and every word Amelia was telling her.
” I was never Intrested in his business, I hated it. All I wanted to do was something which makes me happy. But he didn’t let me do it. He always reminded me how incapable I was being his daughter. I was a disgrace to him only because I was adamant to work in a small company. And one day my father and I had a cold argument becuase he wanted to do something to which I opposed….”
After Amelia narrated everything, Skylar raised her free hand to wipe the trail of tears that streaked down on her cheeks. Amelia’s eyes were red due to crying. Skylar didn’t utter a word knowing nothing would change by talking to her right now. She hugged Amelia until she cried until her heart’s content. Amelia felt blessed that she has met Skylar to whom she was able to pour out her thoughts. It was the first time she has ever told anyone about her.
“Why don’t you take some rest,” Amelia heard Skylar speak to which she agreed. Skylar covered a blanket over Amelia and then slept beside her since she didn’t want to leave her alone. When Amelia woke up, it was around two in the morning. She looked at Skylar who was in a deep sleep and got up from her bed to drink water but found an empty jug and decided to refill it. She looked at her bandaged hand and couldn’t help herself from smiling. The little things Adrian did to her, made her heart flutter when she recollected previous night’s memory with him. The man was gentle and didn’t even question her even though he looked curious to know. He stared at her eyes with his curious gaze for a few seconds before breaking it. If it was any other person, they would surely get into the details but the man didn’t. May be he was least bothered but why would he come to aid her? She had no idea but was grateful to him.
The next morning, by the time Skylar woke up, Amelia made breakfast for both. “You should’ve slept more,” Skylar walked into the hall room and said groggily.
“No. I’m fine,” she beamed. Skylar was a bit surprised to her smile as if nothing has happened, but she was happy that Amelia was back to normal.
“You seem to be in a better mood today,” Skylar commented.
“That’s because it’s a new day and I’m glad my father didn’t see me,” Amelia laughed as she placed the burning utensil on the table with her hands covered with gloves. Picking up two plates, she removed her gloves and took an empty seat. Skylar saw Amelia’s hand and noticed something which she didn’t bother to ask the previous night.
“By the way, when did you get band-aid?” Skylar asked curiously because until now she didn’t notice the bandage even though she knew she was hurt.
“Ahh… I… I just managed,” she replied instantly with a shrug, hiding her gaze from Skylar. Skylar doubted if she lied but didn’t bother much. Amelia didn’t know what was wrong with her. There was nothing wrong in telling her friend that it was Adrian but why did she lie to her. Her heart started to race when she thought about Adrian.
