After reaching the mansion, they were greeted by Darcy who was surprised to see Amelia and Skylar together. Amelia smiled at Darcy when she was greeted with silent and a warm smile. Amelia reminded the butler of his late daughter who would be around Amelia’s age if she was alive. Everytime he came across Amelia, she always had a bright smile and the old man liked her company even though they meet seldom or hardly have a conversation, but if time permits, he would surely talk to her for hours one day.
“Your palm,” the man pointed at her wounded hand.
“I was careless as always,” she let a chortle.
“You should be more careful, Ms. Amelia,” he advised. “I will.” she spoke softly at his words. When was the last time her father spoke to in such soft tone? She doesn’t remember.
“My Lady, Madam has been asking for you,” the butler spoke to Caden who was speaking to Skylar.
“Ohh. I forgot about it,” she said and turned towards Amelia. “I’m sure mother would be delighted to meet you both,” Caden added with a grin.
Amelia’s eyes were searching for something or rather someone in particular in the hallway when Caden spoke to her. She did not listen to Caden but silently followed Skylar and Caden after Trevor excused himself to his room.
Amelia was listening to the three women’s conversation in the room. Judging by the way Caden spoke to Skylar, she loved the girl and so did Josephine. They spoke to her as if they knew her since a long time when in truth, Skylar joined only few moths ago; may be six months. Amelia was not aware of the fact about how much Skylar was indebted to the Schneiders’. As they continued to speak, Caden mentioned about Madeline Robsart, the woman who created a good impression in her eyes.
“I am tired of searching for girls for the two stubborn sons of mine,” Caden exclaimed in exasperation. Even though Adrian was her elder brother’s son, she considered him as her elder son because Adrian was one year older to Trevor and loved him as much as Trevor. “One is not interested to date a woman and the other dated too many women that I feel ashamed to even ask someone to marry him. That useless son of mine…” she complained to her mother. Skylar and Amelia giggled at her words when Josephine bursted into laughter but Caden continued her ramble until they were interrupted by a knock.
“You were praising me, mother?” Trevor asked his mother who rolled her eyes. “Time for lunch, beautiful ladies,” he announced.
Amelia and others were at the dinning table but Adrian was not present. Amelia was surprised when she realised that she bit upset that he didn’t come yet. “Adrian is busy and would come in a while, let us start eating,” Trevor spoke looking at his mother but for some reason she felt he was talking to her when he threw an understanding smile at her.
She was being obvious, she sighed.
Just like Trevor spoke, Adrian came after a while and took an empty seat which was opposite to Amelia. With much effort she lifted her head to meet his gaze, she felt something solid thing struck her, he was looking at her all this while. His eyes shifted to her wounded hand. Was he concerned about her? May be not, because he instantly shifted his gaze to his plate. It was then, she took a free breathe.
The lunch continued with giggles and laughter because of Trevor’s presence. The man has always been a good companion when he is among people where as Adrian would prefer to do his business rather than chat about unnecessary things. Trevor was a charmer where as Adrian was a mysterious and private person who would open up only with few people, rarely.
After the lunch, Skylar and Caden were talking to each other while Amelia stood at the pillar waiting for her friend; ready to leave.
“You removed your bandaid,” she was startled at the deep voice that boomed over her head.
Her heart raced when he took her palm in his hand without any hesitation and traced on her wound gently. “Your wound didn’t heal yet.”
Amelia’s heart flipped over and over again when Adrian touched her delicate skin. The man was never bothered about her but when she saw him ask her in concern, though his words and expressions didn’t show her any of it, she could tell that he was concerned or was it only her thoughts?
“It will heal soon,” she could barely speak but she gathered her words to phrase them without stuttering.
“Good,” he murmured and let go of her hand when the voice of two women approached them but they were not the reason why he let go of her hand. Amelia and Skylar bid their Farewell and left the mansion. On her way, she couldn’t help herself from thinking about him. The girl could not fathom her thoughts, feelings and how she felt when he traced her skin even though it was only for mere seconds. It was a feeling that was developing in her, slowly and deeply making it difficult for her to ignore.
