Amelia was informed that her designs were selected along with five others. She squealed in happiness when Adrian’s secretary added that she would also take in charge of the resort’s interiors and would update Adrian through mails or in meeting, since she was still his employee. Amelia wanted to party with Skylar but since she went for a business meeting and would return only after few days, she decided to wait until Skylar’s return.
The very next day, while she went to the construction site, Amelia came across Adrian who came to check the work that was going in the new resort.
“Mr. Adrian…” she greeted but didn’t let her surprised emotions visible to him.
Adrian who looked at her, gave a stern nod and said since she was here; he would like to talk to her about something. She didn’t know what he wanted to talk or why was he here. There was no need for him to come and check himself, she thought. Maybe this place was indeed special to him or else why would he even come all the way by himself, she concluded.
“How’s the work going?” she heard Adrian ask a man named Leonard Griffin.
Not knowing what else to do since the man was here, she decided to wait until he talks to the man, maybe after he attends the call, she rolled her eyes when saw him receiving a phone call. Why does he even need her?
“Ms. Santiago, could you please let me borrow your car? I will be back in a few minutes,” Leonard Griffin, one of the workers at construction site, asked her to which she didn’t mind giving her keys to him.
By the time she ended her short conversation with Leonard, Adrian attended a phone call after three rings while Amelia’s impatience was taking over.
“Cain, I need the information at any cost. It has been two months since I agreed and there’s no response from their side,” Adrian gritted his teeth while speaking to his assistant who was in Dublin at the head office. After exchanging a few words, Adrian ended the call and finally looked at her.
Two months, the words replayed on Amelia’s mind. Has it been two months already? On the night at the party, Amelia saw her father from a little distance. The man seemed to have lost his weight. Was he missing her or was he furious that his only daughter was a disgrace to him, who doesn’t want to take over their business and was adamant to work somewhere else and in the end she ran away. She wondered if her father consulted Adrian about her. Judging by Adrian’s behaviour, her father has not yet consulted him. She knew her father wouldn’t let the media know about her escape since it would be a disgrace to the family when people come to know that she ran away; she sighed in helplessness.
“… Ms. Santiago. I hope you are done with your daydreaming,” Amelia snapped out of her thoughts when she heard his voice. How dare he speak to her in such way when he was the one who made her wait until now?!
“I’m sorry,” she mumbled feeling lost and heard him speak, “I want you to demonstrate…”
Amelia’s eyes narrowed. There was no need for her to listen to him more. Is this why he wanted her to wait? To explain him again? Amelia stared at him in disbelief before clearing her throat. She followed him as he led the way into the building. Her heels clicked along the unpolished floor. She cursed him under her breath for making her walk with her heels on the cement floor. She shouldn’t have worn heels, she chided herself.
They now stood in an open area where the mountains came into the view. She explained him every little thing without missing a detail while he concentrated on what she was speaking this time unlike previous time. God knows what was wrong with him that day.
“Wow!!” she exclaimed looking at the dusk over mountains and the flying birds in the sky. Rays of sun escaped through the gaps of dark clouds. Caught in the beauty of the nature, she forgot what she was supposed to do. She had a bright smile all over her face. She’s been here often these past few weeks, but this scenic beauty never fails to surprise her. “It’s beautiful, isn’t it?” she said in excitement. She walked further to have a perfect view and tucked her hair behind her ear while inhaling the fresh air. Adrian could hear her giggle, surprisingly he didn’t hate it. He was aware that she was cursing him while she followed his lead, but he neither reacted nor did he ignore her. As the wind blew against them, Amelia looked at Adrian and noticed him, staring at her. No, he wasn’t angry, but his expression was something she couldn’t explain in words. Soon after the clouds growled in the sky. “I think we need to leave before it starts to rain.” Adrian suggested to see her give him a simple nod. Only after coming out of the building did she realize that Leonard took her car.
“What are you waiting for?” Adrian asked her when he saw her rooted to the ground without moving an inch.
“Mr. Griffin took my car and said he would be back in a while,” she answered but heard a worker saying that he was stuck and would take at least two hours to return.
“Ms. Santiago, I’ll drop you home,” Adrian announced afraid that the girl might wander around alone like previous time. Did she even think what would’ve happened to her if he didn’t give her lift? But the girl was least bothered about it that night.
“Umm… No… I can wait for him here,” she mumbled.
“And how will you wait, I am pretty sure it’s going to rain. We shall drop a message for him at the security desk,” he asked her raising his eyebrow.
“I shall hire a cab.” her reply was quick, but the man didn’t want to leave her alone, she may be saying she would take a cab but what if she waits until it gets dark. It was already turning dark and looking at the men here, he didn’t want her to leave alone.
“Is that so…” he drawled as she nodded. “It’s getting dark. Let me drop you home,” he stated.
“But… Mr. Schneider…” she was left puzzled. He was going to drop her?
“I’m driving you home. End of discussion,” he was adamant on giving her a ride home and there was no way he was going to listen to her. Amelia was taken aback a bit. Not wanting to meet his furious gaze at her, she agreed to him and gingerly, walked to his car.
