The car was filled with unwanted silence as soon as she got into the car. She didn’t know if it was okay to talk to him but what would she even talk. He would either reply with a glare or a nod, hence she thought and dropped the idea of talking to him. He started the engine just before he received a call. “No. I’m still at the site.” she heard him speak.
“Why can’t you get it tomorrow morning,” he spoke. He wasn’t angry nor was he calm. She could see that he was slightly irritated and she wondered what the reason could’ve been.
“Is it okay if I take a detour to south division?” he asked Amelia as soon as he ended the call. Without a second thought, Amelia agreed thinking this would be her only chance to see the mountains on that side since it was a prohibited area.
“I’m sure you will love the place,” she heard him speak. Amelia looked at him, did he just speak to her normally or was it just her imagination? There was glint of smile on her face. He has never spoken to her that way.
“How often do you come here?” she asked him not wanting silence to take over again.
“Not that often,” he answered. Well at least he answered instead of ignoring her words. She was satisfied with those three words even though she expected him to speak a little more.
“Umm… May I ask you where we are heading to?” she asked him hesitantly this time.
“There’s a cottage. Trevor stays there occasionally,” he answered looking at the empty road. Droplets of rain started to pour down and trickled on the closed windows. It was getting dark as they went down to south division. She could see huge mountains and the lighting in the sky as they drove further.
“It’s beautiful,” she murmured, thinking he wouldn’t be able to hear her, but he did. She then looked at him to ask something but her eyes widened in shock to see his collar. The two letters, her breathe hitched when she realised that he was the man whom she encountered before coming to Kinsale. She remember his long fingers, his collar neck with letters AS which made sense to her now. May be she was wrong, but the letters that were stitched meant two words. His name, Adrian Schneider and above that, realisation hit her hard when she recollected the time when she came across the puppy in the beach. It was the one she saved that night. She could feel adrenaline rush through her veins when she pictured each and every single piece of her memory.
After reaching the place, a guard came running towards them, recognizing the car. The guard held an umbrella for Adrian unaware of another person’s presence in car.
Adrian spoke something with the guard and took the umbrella before the guard rushed to a shelter. Adrian walked to other side of the car to open the door. Amelia alighted from the car with numerous thoughts running on her mind. How did she even end up meeting him again? She raised her head to see him before she was pulled closer to him, gently, under his umbrella. Making sure that she was under umbrella even though half of his body was drenching, he walked along with her to the cottage. Reaching under a roof, he dropped the umbrella he was holding and ruffled his hair which was now wet and then saw the girl beside him who looked everything in awe.
“I see that you liked this place,” he commented looking at her way.
“I do,” she smiled but the thought that she met him again didn’t leave her mind.
It was dark by the time they reached but she could see that the walls of the cottage were covered with creepers. The rain was not pouring heavily yet the ground was wet with little amount of rain. She felt droplets of rain touch her skin as the strong wind blew against her. The sky was dark with growling thunders and lightning in the sky. The weather seemed to be getting worst by minute, it might rain the entire night.
Amelia heard a creak sound and saw Adrian opening the door. She followed him into the house after he called her with his usual professional tone. The man was undoubtedly bipolar. It is difficult to tell his mood because it changes within fraction of seconds. Amelia sat on a chair while Adrian went to pick a file. The guard who came with an umbrella gave her a glass of water to drink. She found only two men guarding this place and there was no sight of any other person. The windows were closed and the staircase was spiral. She wondered how many rooms were there upstairs.
Another guard rushed into the house while Adrian came out of Trevor’s room. “The climate has gotten to worst, Sir. Because of the strong wind, a tree collapsed on the road blocking the way.” The guard announced timidly.
