The grey sky restlessly grumbled as the rain pitter-patted. The rain appeared to pour down continuously like every other day since it was spring season. Adrian stood at the window to see the water flowing continuously across the bridge. The lamp posts luminated enough of light in the darkness due to which Adrian could see rise in the level of water because of the heavy rain fall. After Trevor left, Adrian had to leave for a meeting in the noon time. It has been only a few minutes since he returned after attending the meeting. He untied his tie and heard Darcy, his butler, knock on his door.
“Young Master, your food is ready.” The butler who came, informed him about dinner. After the butler left the room, Adrian took a quick shower before having his dinner, instead of returning to his room after his peaceful dinner, he went to meet his grandmother to see if she was asleep or awake.
Hearing foot steps approaching her room, the woman beamed to see her grandson. She didn’t sleep even though it was around five past Eleven. “It is raining heavily outside. Glad you returned safely,” he heard his grandmother speak to him as he entered into her room.
It was raining heavily which made his driver to take a long route because of the uprooted tree that blocked the road, which is why he reached lately. Adrian only nodded as he padded his feet on the carpetted floor to sit beside his grandmother on the soft mattress. “Have you taken your medicines?” he asked her softly.
“I did.” Adrian’s grandmother spoke before she continued, “Trevor came to me after meeting you.”
“… ”
Adrian saw his grandmother wait for him to speak something but the man said nothing in reply. That ungrateful cousin ate his brain instead of helping him. It was not like he need any help though. Adrian only needed time to settle few matters before deciding something. Adrian didn’t bother to tell his grandmother what they had discussed in the morning, all he wanted her to do was to take rest.
“I heard Dominic Helton came to meet you,” Josephine stated with her furrowed eyes that showed curiosity.
It must be his aunt Caden who told her, Adrian thought and didn’t ask his grandmother if his guess was right.
“The man offered me a wholesome amount of money and few properties to merge our companies,” Adrian explained.
“What is the man scheming now,” his grandmother shook her head. A tiny smile formed over Adrian’s lips which didn’t break through completely. “It’s business grandma.”
Josephine snorted, “Don’t forget I was a business woman, Adri.”
“Father handled things much better,” he taunted, aware of the reaction she was going to give him.
Josephine snorted again. “It was your father who followed my path.” The woman boasted about her and continued to tell about her son. “He was a hardworking and responsible man.”
Josephine’s smile grew brighter, remensicing her past. “Your father doted your mother. She was a farmer’s daughter and his childhood friend. He was adamant to marry her_”
“And he was a jealous man who never liked any man talking to mother,” Adrian replied, making his grandmother chuckle. Of course he knew his parents’ love story. It was his bed time stroy, his mother narrated when he was a seven year old, he loved listening to their story.
“What about you?” his grandmother asked changing the topic to point at him.
“What do you mean?” Adrian questioned. It was not that he didn’t understand what his grandmother’s intentions were, he only wanted her to speak so that he could end the topic.
“When will you find a bride for yourself. Neither would you let me find one nor would you find one for yourself,” his grandmother sighed heavily.
“When you stop pestering me to find one,” Adrian simply stated his words and looked at the wall clock, he wondered what was his grandmother doing instead of sleeping when it was thirty past Eleven. “You should sleep early, grandma. What were you doing until now?!”
“I was waiting for you,” the woman spoke when Adrian stood on his feet. “What if I didn’t come?” he quired, his voice was seren as he spoke to her.
“I know you would come,” she replied confidently, while adjusting her blanket, ready to sleep. No matter how many times Adrian reminded her that it was not good for her health to wait for him when he comes home late, the stubborn old lady never sleeps until he comes to see her, it was a habit to see his face before sleeping. Adrian who knew his grandmother well, always made sure to visit her room whenever he comes late, so that she would go to sleep with no worries.
“Good night, grandma,” Adrian kissed on her forehead before turning on the lamp and switching off the lights.
“Don’t think I will stop searching a bride for you,” he heard his grandmother mumble. Adrian’s lips quirked up to one side before he closed the door.
I know there are no scenes in this chapter, but I hope you liked the boding between his grandmother and him. Next update will be soooon!!!
