Amelia was glad that Adrian continued to drive instead of pressing his question on her action a while ago. She felt relief flood all over her body when he said that they were going to have lunch with Trevor and Skylar. She thought they were going to meet tomorrow but judging by her boss information, that wasn’t the case. A part of her wanted to have lunch with him privately but she didn’t mind the idea of joining with them. After reaching the restaurant, Amelia and Adrian alighted from their car and walked past through the entrance door of the restaurant. Amelia rushed to hug her friend who was eagerly waiting for her. Skylar, who didn’t meet Amelia wanted to catch up with every detail that was happening in her friend’s life. Since the time she came to know about Amelia’s identity, they both became closer than they were before. Skylar was grateful that she had found a girl like Amelia to whom she could share her past, the struggles she had to go through when she was at a young age.
“I missed you,” Amelia said, squeezing Skylar when she hugged her.
“I missed you too. I didn’t think you would come here,” Skylar’s words came out in whisper, loud enough for Amelia to hear.
“I had to,” Amelia pointed at Adrian through her eyes.
“I hope the journey was not boring?” It was Trevor who spoke to Amelia, making her chuckle.
Trevor and Skylar were working on a project due to which they had to attend meetings in different parts of the world due to which Skylar had to travel along with him.
“Do you even have to ask about it?” Amelia laughed again ignoring the dark haired man standing beside her.
“I wish things didn’t happen as I predicted but that’s alright, Angel. Since I am here, we shall make sure to have some fun…” Adrian narrowed his eyes at Trevor who was talking about fun with his employee. “… after we are done with the Kinsale’s project.” Trevor added at the end to satisfy his cousin who is a workaholic unlike him.
“That sounds great,” Amelia beamed joining her palms together; her eyes were brighter than the previous day. Trevor and Amelia continued to talk to each other without a pause as if they met each other after twenty years.
“Maybe we should start planning our dinner tonight,” Adrian spoke, irritation lacing his tone. The time was around four in the evening but none of them had their lunch. Adrian was losing his patience because of the people who were continuously talking and their conversation nowhere looked like it would end before the night begins.
“Are we all going to stay till evening?” Amelia who was oblivious to Adrian’s sarcastic comment, sounded excited to his words.
Trevor who understood the reason behind Adrian’s comment bursted into laughter and at the response Amelia had given. Amelia didn’t understand what made him laugh at her. When she looked at Adrian to find the reason, she saw his lips quirk up into a tiny smile which she almost missed. It took time for Amelia to understand what he meant. It was evening and the view around them started to fade away as darkness was taking over the bright sky and they have been talking for more than twenty minutes. Amelia glared at the man who had no idea about it because she was walking behind him.
After having their food, they didn’t wait to spend time because of Adrian who wanted to return to his place as soon as possible. ” Are you not planning to see your father?” Skylar asked.
Amelia sighed at the thought of her father. She wondered what would he be doing now, may be working over time as always. ” I have to think about it,” She replied to see Skylar nod at her words.
When the girls were having their personal conversation, the two men stood a little away from them. One held a sullen look over his face, while the other had a smirk. “Admit it,” Trevor spoke to Adrian.
“Admit what?!” Adrian waited to see what his cousin’s grin.
“You were jealous while I was talking to Angel, weren’t you?” Adrian narrowed his eyes at his cousin’s words.
“Why would I be..” he said and looked at his watch.
“So you wouldn’t mind if I take her on a date?” Trevor asked him.
“She’s off limits. She came with a purpose here and not to go on a date with you,” Adrian’s voice was crisp as he spoke to his cousin.
“Maybe I should ask her some other day,” Trevor twisted the ends of his lips into a smile, he liked testing his cousin’s patience every now and then to see a reaction on his cousin’s face who never let’s his gaurd down. Adrian didn’t know the reason but the thought of his cousin taking her out didn’t settle well in his mind. Though he was against his cousin taking his employee on a date, he didn’t comment and chose to ignore it.
While Amelia was talking to Skylar when Adrian received a call. Amelia who was speaking to Skylar until then, looked at Adrian, “I have to leave right now,” She heard him speak to Trevor. She wondered what was the call about that he decided to leave right away.
“I’ll be back.” He turned to Amelia directing the words at the end to her. She felt her breathe hitch when their eyes met.
Skylar and Trevor waited for Adrian but he didn’t return even after half an hour. “I’ll call my driver, he will drop you home,” Trevor suggested as he and his secretary had to leave to the airport because of their work.
“He might be on his way back to pick me up. I’ll wait here,” Amelia smiled back at Trevor. It has been more than three hours since Adrian left. She should’ve listened to Skylar and Trevor when they told her to return home but she didn’t listen to them because of the three words which Adrian spoke to her, made her wait for him. Amelia was seated on a couch with a magazine in her hand.
On the other side, Adrian held a file in his hand. It was a contract he made with the man who sat opposite to him. The deal was made two months ago, as per their agreement the man would help Adrian with a land issue. Now that the land was under Adrian’s name, he had to agree with the terms and conditions that were on the agreement papers.
“I have done my part, Mr. Schneider,” spoke the man named Roman Earnshaw.
The deal was to marry Roman Earnshaw’s daughter. He agreed to the marriage two months ago without a second thought because of the benifits he would get by marrying Roman’s daughter but why was he having second thoughts to accept it now. He should be satisfied that he got what he wanted but he wasn’t satisfied. His mind was filled with many things to find an answer for the questions that has been left unanswered since many days. It was not about his projects, his deals or any other things that related to his work. Everything right now that was running on his mind was related to only one person, it was the girl whom he came across one night in London. Even now, at the mention of the deal her face flashed in his mind. For the first time, the young man was left in a dilemma.
By the time he bid his farewell to Roman, it was late. He wondered if she would be waiting for him. He pulled out his phone to call her but what he did was to stare at his phone for a long time before putting it back into his pocket. Why would she even wait for him. She must’ve took a Cab or Trevor must’ve called his driver, he said to himself knowing that Trevor would not let her stay back alone in the restaurant. But for many unknown reasons his heart didn’t stay clam. He took a U-turn and headed towards the place where they had their lunch. He caught the sight of people occupying the empty tables, he looked every corner but he did not find her. Just as he thought, she wasn’t there. As he was retreating, his eyes caught the sight of a girl who sat on the couch. He walked towards her only to see her eyes sleeping resting her head back on the couch. For the first time he felt his heart skip a beat when he saw her innocent face.
