Amelia was talking to a woman holding two dresses in her hands. She could feel her hands become cold at the thought of Adrian looking at her every now and then, while she was selecting the dresses. It has been an hour and a half since they came to the store. Amelia was never a kind of person who would take hours to pick a dress but today, she was unable to choose and she wanted to put the blame on Adrian. If he wasn’t in the store, she would’ve picked up a dress by now. Never did she expect her boss to come along with her for shopping, she didn’t even know he was taking her to a designer’s store until she got down from his car. She would’ve never agreed to go for shopping if she had known before, may be that is why he didn’t inform her. Now that Adrian went outside to attend a call, she was relieved that she could pick one without being bothered by his scrutinizing gaze.
“Did you pick anything?” Amelia heard Adrian’s voice from behind and was startled at his sudden appearance. When did he even come into the store, she thought.
“I didn’t,” she replied and shook her head.
“Why? Are they not suitable to your taste?” he inquired her in nonchalance. It was not that he ran out of patience, he only wanted to help her as she was having a difficult time to choose one. He didn’t have any problem even if she liked more than three dresses but the girl had not picked even a single dress.
“No. They are fine but…” Amelia was speaking to him when Adrian came closer to her due to which she was left out of words. “they are too good that I’m not able to pick one..” She added putting a little effort and stressed her words.
Adrian took a step towards Amelia when she was talking to him. He gave a quick glace at the dresses that were hung one after the other. He pointed at one particular piece of dress for the sales woman to take it out from the cover. It was a beautiful gown in red with laced work at the bottom.
“Does this suit your taste?” he asked her. How could she not like the dress when it was so beautiful, just like the one she wanted and she have been searching for one such dress since more than an hour. Amelia was surprised that he was able to choose a dress in a short time.
“Yes,” she replied and heard him speak to the woman beside him the very next second, without delaying. “Pack this one and the two dresses in her hand.” Adrian spoke without asking her if she had any plans to buy the two dresses that laid in her hands. They weren’t gowns but a casual wear. She wanted to buy but the price was too much for her as she was living on her own expenses now, she didn’t plan to spend her money.
It was Adrian who payed for the dresses by not giving her a chance to protest when she wanted to pay for her dresses. After that, Amelia and Adrian headed to the farm house. While on their way back to the farm house, Amelia didn’t sit quite this time, she spoke to him by calling his name first, “Mr. Schneider.” She wanted to gain his attention before she could speak to him. When he looked looked at her, she spoke.
“I would like the expenses of my dresses to be cut down from my salary,” she didn’t receive any response from him even after she had spoke to him. She wasn’t sure if he heard her, what if he didn’t, she thought and tried to speak again but he spoke before her, “the expenses for your dresses would be bared by the company as the party is related to your work,” Adrian answered. But what about the two dresses, they weren’t for party. Amelia wanted to ask him.
“I didnt know you would take your own time to pick a dress,” she heard him say. Though his voice was calm, his words held a different meaning and Amelia wasn’t dumb to not understand what he meant. She took more than hour while he was waiting, any person would obviously be irritated but he wasn’t which she found it odd as it was Adrian who came to shopping with her, is this a way to apologize her for yesterday’s incident? She laughed internally.
“I’m sorry for making you wait,” she said but she wasn’t sorry for him wholeheartedly. He had to know what it feels like to wait for someone but that didn’t mean she took her time on purpose in the store.
“That’s alright. Anyhow I was free now.” The truth was that he cancelled his appointment with one of his client to take her with him. But he was not going tell her anything about the appointment now. It was better to keep it that way.

“You look very pretty, dear,” the old woman who works at the farm house, smiled at Amelia. The old woman who came to call Amelia couldn’t stop herself but praise the girl who looked beautiful in the red gown which Amelia had bought the previous day.
“Thankyou, Ms. Mariah,” Amelia gave her a warm smile while adjusting her pendant. The pendant she wore matched her gown perfectly and so did the ear rings she brought while coming to London.
Coming out of her room, Amelia lifted her gown a little before taking the steps as she didn’t want to trip and fall like she did once when she was twenty years old. She and her father were going to attend her cousin’s wedding but she ended up admitting in hospital for being careless while walking. The memory made her let out a humourless chuckle. It was one of the rarest times when she felt her father cares for her. Her father didn’t sleep the entire night and made sure to check on her from time to time, but every time he came to see her, he scolded her. At that moment, she felt as if he was coming to unleash his anger and stress on her but the fact was that the girl’s father was worried about her and also he didn’t want her to behave in an unladylike fashion. What kind of a Lady would trip and fall because a gown, he yelled at her making her flinch in fear. It was an old memory which she didn’t want to think about it right now.
Amelia was careful while getting down the steps without tripping and had a bright smile on her face as if she achieved something but the smile had fallen when she saw Adrian standing near the pillar. He had been waiting for her. Amelia noticed that his tie matched her dress, was it a coincidence? She asked herself and silently walked towards him with her eyes looking everywhere but him.
Adrian saw her while she was getting down. As expected, her pendant suited her dress but more than that, the dress was perfect for her and matched his tie too, it was purely coincidence. When he chose the dress on the previous day, the first thought that occurred on his mind was the pendant on her neck. He wasn’t sure if it would go with the dress but looking at her at this moment, he was satisfied with his quick decision but the satisfaction didn’t last long when he saw the exposed skin on her shoulders.
Her hair was tied into a bun leaving few strands of her hair on either sides. He wanted to remove the pins from her hair and take down the bun to leave it open so that her hair would cover the little exposure on her shoulders. He should have selected a dress with sleeves, so that way he wouldn’t have to be worried about her. She looked no less than an enchantress in the gown he picked for her. But the thought of this enchantress who had no idea of what she could do with her innocent eyes made him frown. There were high chances of other men laying their eyes on her in the party and he didn’t want that to happen. Now that he had seen her, he regretted his decision to take her to the party but who knew she would look breathe taking. If only he could keep her all by himself, Adrian averted his eyes when he saw her as walked past him. This time, he was the one who followed her to the car, before leaving to the party.
