The cold breeze continued to blow in the silent night, dried leaves that were on the ground danced with the rhythm of the breeze and the fountain sprinkled streams of water over the ground. The lamp posts illuminated enough light under the sky when the dark clouds covered the moon from shinning.
Amelia and Adrian sat beside each other with a decent distance between them. Amelia expected to see shock written over Adrian’s face but the man was as calm as ever. She should’ve guessed it before that she wouldn’t be receiving anything she wanted from him neither a reaction nor feelings. He would never reciprocate his feelings, it would be better to bury her love for him within her.
“Hmm. Was it the time when we first met?” he asked her in nonchalance. Adrian expected something like this one even before Amelia had told him. The girl always violates rules and he wouldn’t be surprised if she ran away, he would’ve surely doubted if she said something else.
“Yes.” she answered shifting her gaze back to the fountain.
“Now it makes sense why you were walking on a deserted road,” Adrian hummed recalling the night he had met her.
“Please don’t even remind me,” Amelia heard his chuckle. It was too embarrassing to even remember that night. Who would’ve thought she would meet him again and that he would recognise her even before she did.
“Why? You saved a dog’s life. It shouldn’t be bad I guess…” Adrian knew as to why Amelia didn’t want to talk about that night. Looking at her embarrassed face, he only wanted to talk about it more.
“It was better when you treated me as I was invisible, I miss that side of you right now,” Amelia huffed, rolling her eyes.
“Are you admitting that you miss me?” Amelia’s lips parted a little in shock. “I didn’t mean that way,” she protested trying to prove her innocence.
“Then what did you mean, care to explain me?” his eyes were transfixed on her. He could see that she was left speechless, it was a good sight to see her flurried at times, may be all the time.
“You cannot assume as you wish, Mr. Schneider,” Amelia mentally shook her head. “How long are we going to stay here?” she asked him. If given a chance, the man would play with his twisted words the entire night and she was not going to let him play with her.
“As long as you feel good,” Amelia smiled at his reply. So it was to make her feel good. She even forgot what ever happened while he was by her side. She felt safe and secured in his company. “If you don’t want to stay anymore…”
“It is not that I don’t want to stay, It’s just that,” Amelia cut down his words but paused when she couldn’t give him the reason. She wanted to sit for a while because of the pain in her feet. She wanted to remove her heels but because of the dress she wore, she wasn’t able to bend down to unbuckle her footwear. Adrian waited for her answer which never came through her lips. How could she say that she uncomfortably stood in the party, balancing her self with one leg for one minute and the next minute with another leg. But while walking, she didn’t go through any pain because her mind was consumed with other things. When Adrian noticed what was causing her trouble, he stood up to take a step back before kneeling on the green grass, making her startle by his act.
His hands touched one of her feet to unbuckle her sandle, one after the other. He had observed the day when they met at the resort construction site, she wasn’t able to walk properly because of her heels, he wondered why do women wear heels when it gives pain at the end of night but he was not going to raise a topic regarding this matter with her or the two women in his life as it was not something he was interested to know.
Amelia looked to her right and to her left to see no one around them. A splash of pink was all over her face a smile on her lips. She didn’t know how to express what she was feeling right now. But she could tell, It was as if beautiful fireworks displayed in her mind over and over at this moment.
“Do you feel better now?” when he was done with his part, he asked her after helping her in removing her sandals. What could she even say right now with his eyes that were boring into her after what he had done. He not only unbuckled her heels but also removed them carefully and placed them on the bench, where she was still seated.
“Thank you,” her words came out in whisper which was audible in the silent night. She thanked him for everything he has done for her tonight. She witnessed different shades of this man; his anger and his care. This was the second time Amelia had seen Adrian losing his temper in these three months. The first time was when he came to her neighborhood in search for his grandmother and then now.
“Can you stand now?” he asked her and she nodded holding back her overwhelming with euphoria.
She felt like a free bird that was released from a cage after removing her footwear and now she can dance like a peacock. She made her way to the fountain knowing that Adrian would follow her, the thought itself made her grin. “I always wanted to toss a coin in the fountain but I never had a chance to do so!” Amelia spoke to Adrian who stood a little away from the fountain such that the water didn’t fall on him.
“Why don’t you give it a try it right now,” Adrian suggested. It was mid-night around two in the morning. The exact time they met three months ago in London.
