Life in London was as busy as ever, thought Amelia when she looked out through the glass door. People were in a rush to reach their destination. When the waiter came with two cups of cappuccino in a tray, Amelia took the cup and gave it to the woman who sat opposite to her and then taking one for herself.
“How is life in kinsale?” It was Mrs. Santiago who asked the young girl. As soon as Adrian left, Amelia decided to meet her nanny. Taking Ms. Maria’s help, she phoned to her house land line number knowing that Mrs. Santiago would be the one to attend the call but she didn’t want to take a risk so she asked Maria, the house maid to make a call to her home. When she was sure that it was Mrs. Santiago who attended the call, Amelia took the phone from Mariah after thanking her. On the other side, Mrs. Santiago who had no clue about the person on the other side spoke politely on the phone with a hello.
“It’s me.”
Came a reply after a few seconds of pause.
Mrs. Santiago recognised the voice and was to tears the moment she heard Amelia’s voice. She missed the girl and after three months Amelia called her and asked her to meet.
Amelia and Mrs. Santiago sat facing each other in a cafe which was a little away from her house because she knew that Mrs. Santiago won’t be able to spend much time with her.
“Beautiful. You must visit at least once,” Amelia answered to the old woman’s question with a warm smile on her face. The woman looked at Amelia to see how much the girl had changed from the time she had last seen her. Amelia looked more lively though she lost a few pounds, thought the old woman as she studied her employer’s daughter. “It is good to hear that you are happy.
“How is he?” Amelia asked as she pressed her cup. She felt like a free bird during her stay in Kinsale in the first month. As days passed, she missed her father and now when she wanted to see him, she didn’t know how to face him after all these days.
“He is fine now but busy as ever. The first two and a half months have been difficult for him and for every one but now he looks better” Mrs. Santiago paused and saw the girl’s eyes with tears. “Does he eat well?” Mrs. Santiago shook her head when Amelia asked about her father.
“Mr. Earnshaw hardly eats his food. I hope the young lady would return home as soon as possible,” Mrs. Santiago voiced out her thoughts.
“It is not easy, Mrs. Santiago. I don’t know how will I face him after all these months. I agree I was at fault but…” Amelia wiped her silent tears when everything around her turned blur in a moment.
“It wasn’t entirely your fault, young lady. ” Mrs. Santiago stated. Her father planned to force her in marriage with a stranger by not giving her a choice. The old woman didn’t know who were right and who were wrong. It was not her place to interfere between her employer and his daughter but she was attached to the girl since a very long time due to which she could not watch the girl to go through the pain, the girl was sensitive like a butterfly. It was better for the butterfly to fly and find its way than being caught.
Back in Kinsale, Trevor was having breakfast with his grandmother who was glaring at him but Trevor being Trevor, ignored her and continued to enjoy his breakfast. “Why have you been ignoring my phone calls?” Josephine didn’t stop to shower her grandson with the questions.
“I was busy, granny,” came his answer in nonchalance. He picked a knife to apply butter on his bread. “Alright. I’m sorry, now stop admiring me.” Trevor added when his grandmother was sending death glares.
“Tch!! You little brat. You knew about Adrian and that girl,” Josephine was fuming with anger that her grandsons were ignoring her calls. Trevor who had been busy with an issue that occurred during his business meetings, returned in the morning to Kinsale after sorting out the issues to meet his grandmother and expected she would shower him with her love but here the woman was interrogating him as if he was the culprit.
“Which girl?” Trevor tried to play a game of pretend but when grandmother took away his plate, he surrendered. “I know nothing about the girl. Adrian didn’t tell me her details. That idiot was afraid that I being your faithful grandson would spill everything to you. Now give me my food. I’m starving,” Trevor took his plate back from his grandmother and continued to eat peacefully.
It was true that Adrian had told him about Mr. Earnshaw’s deal when he asked his cousin. It was a deal with a price and the price would be Adrian’s life. Trevor would’ve never agreed to tied down with an unknown person for a life time. It was something he didn’t even want to imagine.
“I need to speak with the girl’s family. I am not going to approve if they are after our status,” Josephine gritted her teeth.
“I thought you would be happy about his decision of getting married. May I ask your reason for the sudden change in you?” Trevor asked his grandmother who now avoided his gaze.
“I am only doing my part as his grandmother,” she mumbled.
“Tch! Don’t even try to lie, my darling grandma. You always wanted his new assistant to be your grand daughter-in-law,” Trevor stated. It was true that Josephine wanted Amelia to be paired with her grandson, she even thought that things might go the way she wanted after Amelia started to work with him but never did she expect her grandson would choose a bride for himself without her consent.
Josephine sighed at Trevor’s statement. There was nothing to explain since her grandson knew about her intentions. “But still I would like to meet the girl’s family. If I feel she is good for Adrian, then they will have my blessings.”
“If you wish, I can gather a little information about the girl,” he winked. Trevor knew his grandmother would love to know about this mysterious girl as expected, his grandmother gave an approving smile.
In London, Mrs. Santiago spent more than an hour with Amelia and she was glad that the girl was fine. All these months there was not even a single day that had passed with out recollecting the moments she had with Amelia. She never expected the girl would take such step, she should’ve guessed it when Amelia took her out a few days before running away. Mrs. Santiago reached the mansion, the place where she had been working since past thirty years. As soon as she entered through the main door, she saw her master discussing something with a person, may be about business. She continued to carry her feet to the kitchen but couldn’t help from having a glance at the two men who were looking at a photo frame.
“My wife and my daughter,” she heard Roman speak to the man who stood a little away from him. Grace Santiago didn’t wait to listen to their conversation as she had to continue her work, it was like any other day to her. She completed her chores and when she was about to retire from her work in the evening, she was summoned by her boss.
It wasn’t the first time she had been called, she was always summoned to fetch water or to bring food to his study room where the man had started to have his dinner after Amelia’s absence. Grace was nervous for many reasons right now. She didn’t know what could be his reason to call her this time but the fact that she met his daughter secretly, made her feel like a thief who might be get caught if she wasn’t careful.
“Did she tell you if she had any plans to return?” asked Roman without beating the bushes.
“I… I beg_g for your f_forgiveness, Sir. I only wanted to meet the g_girl because I missed h_her,” Grace stammered but didn’t reveal that Amelia was the one who wanted to meet her, she would put blame upon herself than telling the truth. “She asked about your health. She is afraid that you… that you…” would hate her. Grace was unable to let out the words which Amelia had said to her.
“You can leave,” the man said taking a cigar and a lighter in his hand. The maid could only bow and take a step back to leave, she could feel her feet and hands turn cold and numb. Shock was an understatement of what Grace was feeling right now. The man knew about her secret rendezvous with his daughter which only meant that he either found out Amelia through her or he kept a track on his daughter since a long time. Grace had a quick Glace at the man who was now puffing his cigar in deep thoughts, judging by the man’s composed face, she concluded he knew everything but the question was since when did he know about his daughter.
I know this chapter was boring, hope the next chapter comes better than this one. When I started to write this story, I planned to write Adrian and Amelia’s story along with Trevor’s and Skylar’s loves track but later I kinda abandoned the second lead but if you guys are interested to know their love story, I will start writing it from now but will focus mainly on our lead couple and then there is another story which is set in historical genre, I paused the chat story to write it as a novel. So I am now in a dilemma if I should write Trevor’s story or the historical one. If possible kindly help me to choose one story. I would start another story only when I end the A&A couple’s story 💞💃🏻
