When Adrian distanced himself from her, Amelia scurried away from his room like a mouse which didn’t want to be caught and it only made him chuckle. Adrian could tell that she was nervous to be around him especially after yesterday. He knew she would find ways to avoid him and he didn’t want things to happen in her way, he wouldn’t let her avoid him. Amelia’s mind would be occupied if he kept her busy with work and he was sure the girl didn’t have time to think about unnecessary things after he made her to do the paper work.
Adrian didn’t know his anger could be controlled by someone else until today. He was angry at few of his employees for making such ridiculous mistakes, he would’ve fired them in anger but when he saw Amelia on his chair, he froze for a second. Adrian should be angry but he wasn’t anymore and for some reason he liked staring at the girl. Her lustrous black hair was left open with ball pins on both the sides. It was good that she left her hair open, he thought.
The girl was too immersed that she didn’t even notice his movements until his phone started to ring. It was true that he decided not to rush things between them but he wondered if he would be able to control himself from keeping his hands away from her when she was around him. It was a difficult task for him but he had to do it to avoid certain outcomes. Now that didn’t mean he would have to avoid her. It was an interesting sight to watch the girl squirm within his grip and there was no way he would let her free from him until he was satisfied.
Amelia could feel her hand turn cold, she didn’t know how did she even manage to walk away from him when she felt her feet paralyzed at that moment. He could make her cardiac muscle pump the blood through her vascular system really quick and this time it only doubled.
“Amy!”
She heard someone call her, it was Adrian’s grandmother and then there was a woman beside her. It was Caden Wolfrick, Trevor’s mother. The woman seemed more beautiful than she saw her last time. There was a smile on Caden’s face, a warm one.
“It is good to see you, Ms. Wolfrick,” Amelia greeted the woman as she strode towards them.
“It is good to see you too,” came the soft voice of the woman. Amelia joined them at the dinning table. She took an empty seat that was beside Caden. She wondered if Adrian would join them but it was better if he didn’t join.
” I wouldn’t have been surprised if it was Trevor but seeing that it was Adrian I was more than shocked.” Amelia didn’t understand what Caden was speaking to Josephine but what she understood was that they were talking about Adrian.
After a maid served food in her plate, Amelia started to eat in silence as she didn’t want to interrupt their conversation. Josephine who nodded in agreement with her daughter, looked at Amelia. ” Did you attend any party when you were in London?” asked Josephine.
It was at that moment Amelia wanted Adrian to come as soon as possible. Why would she even ask her about the party after all these days?!
“Adrian should’ve known that it was not the right time to reveal about his personal life,” it was Caden who spoke. Though Amelia was thankful with Caden’s interruption, she couldn’t pick on their topic.
“But I trust in Adrian. The girl looks fine to me, don’t you think?” Caden added and picked the newspaper to see at a picture. Amelia’s eyes winded and she literally choked on her food when she saw the picture of her and Adrian. Were they talking about her all this while? She was grateful to the heavens that her face was not revealed.
“I don’t know, her face is not revealed,” Josephine replied. The way she looked at the picture was enough to tell that the old woman didn’t like that Adrian was with a woman and she didn’t have the courage to tell them.
When Adrian marched into the building, his strides were not too long and not too short. He saw Amelia when she chocked on her food. The next moment, their eyes met for a few seconds. Caden rubbed Amelia’s back but Amelia was looking at Adrian as if she was pleading him to help her. His eyes then followed her gaze which fell on the newspaper that was on the table. His aunt must’ve spoken something about the party.
“I didn’t know you were going to have lunch with us today,” he heard his grandmother when he pulled an empty chair softly. Adrian never ate lunch with his grandmother because he would either be busy with his work or he wouldn’t be at his home. To see him join lunch with them was something Josephine didn’t expect from him.
“I had to take medicines, grandma,” he spoke in nonchalance. Though it was partly correct his reason was the one who sat opposite to him with her fingers pressed onto the fork. When his eyes met again with hers, she averted her gaze this time.
One of the maids came by his side and served him the food when Caden decided to speak. “Do you have any explanation for this?” she pushed the newspaper so that Adrian could have a better view of what was written on the paper.
“Since when did you believe in the rumours, aunt Caden?!” Adrian spoke to her. Instead of giving an explanation the man was questioning his aunt, it would only make the two women curious, thought Amelia.
“I am not asking about what they have written. I am asking you about the picture,” Caden stressed her words and looked at her mother who gave a thumbs up in encouragement when Adrian was not looking at them.
“It was only a dance and I don’t think there is a problem in dancing with a beautiful lady in a party.” His words held with normalcy but the one who sat opposite to him had to control the blush that was creeping from her neck to cheeks. Did he just call her beautiful? Asked Amelia to herself.
Caden looked at her mother when she didn’t know what else to speak to her son who was not giving the answer which she was expecting from him. Caden then again looked at her nephew to speak about the girl whom he decided to marry. Her mother had told about Adrian’s decision, Caden was happy about it but she didn’t want him to keep the girl away from them. She wanted to meet the girl and so did her mother.
“This girl with whom….”
“This girl was only my dance partner. We can have this conversation in private if you want, now please let me eat in peace,” Adrian didn’t expect his words would sound rude though his words came out in such manner. He wasn’t angry but his words made Amelia feel as if she was an outsider which was true and understood. But what bothered her was, was she only a dance partner to him? He was wise enough to understand that she liked him and he knew it too but he treated as if she was just a certain someone.
It would’ve been better if she had told them that she was the one with whom he danced but after the conversation they had, she could only zip her lips.
“You better give me an explanation later,” Caden spoke before wiping her mouth with a napkin before leaving the dinning hall.
Amelia was not interested to stay anymore after what Adrian had stated. It was better for her to leave right away.
“Thank you for the lunch, granny. I will have to continue my work,” she spoke to Josephine who gave a nod with an apologising look on her face. It was obvious that he didn’t want to speak about the matter in front of Amelia and the girl must’ve understood it. Josephine was upset at his grandson’s behaviour. As much as he cared for her and his family, he would be rude to outsiders at times, may be always.
“You shouldn’t have spoken that way. Is this the way I taught you to treat others, Adri,” his grandmother’s words were gruff. She didn’t like to see the girl leave but what else could she do when Adrian’s intentions were clear as a crystal.
“It wouldn’t have happened if you didn’t tell aunt Caden to speak to me. Didn’t I tell you, I would let you know about the girl once the time comes,” Adrian looked at his grandmother who had nothing to say in return.
“I wonder when will the time come,” Josephine murmured loud enough for him to hear. Even though she ate her food, she waited for her grandson to complete. She didn’t want him to have his lunch alone like other days. She was afraid he would be left alone once her time comes to an end. She wanted to see him have his own family before she took her last breath.
