Amelia paced from one corner to the other in her cabin. She was not in a mood to work right now. She didn’t know why was she even reacting this way, it was not even the time for her periods but here she was irritated for no reason.
‘She is only a dance partner’
Adrian’s voice echoed on the back of her mind and it only irked her more. Was she only a dance partner to him? God knows what made her attract to this infuriating man. She didn’t like him for his money or the power he held in his eyes. It was not his handsome face or his words. Then what was it?!
Amelia jumped out and pulled herself out of her little reverie when she heard the telephone on her desk started to ring. Amelia picked up the phone to attend the call. “Good afternoon. This is Schneider’s empire. How may I help you?” it was Amelia’s honey coated voice. She tried to sound as sweet as she could.
“Good afternoon. My name is Lee Jin Yew, from Ko Trading & shipping. There have been a mistake in the information about Mr. Schneider when we received his details a few days ago. Could you please send his information again?!” the man asked, he was a Korean. Amelia could tell that by his name and his vocabulary.
“I will send it to you right away, Mr. Lee,” answered Amelia.
“Could you… Could you please tell me the first name of Mr. Schneider?” asked the man.
“His name is Adrian,” Amelia replied without asking any details. Amelia tried to spell each letters in Adrian’s name when the man had asked her to spell the letters.
“The first letter is A… It is A… A for arrogant,” Amelia spoke a little louder so that the man could understand. “D for devil. R for rude. I for Idiot. A for… A for attitude. N for narcissist. I hope you understood, Mr. Lee,” there was a long pause on the other side of the phone before the man thanked her. Who would even describe the letters with such words but Amelia was least bothered of what the man would think. After the call was ended, Amelia felt good for no reason. She never knew scolding a person would make her feel this way, she giggled to herself. Her happiness didn’t last long because Adrian was at the threshold of the door which was kept wide open since the time she had returned to her cabin.
When Amelia turned, her smile died down to see her boss in front of her. Why was the universe against her today, she didn’t even know for how long he has been standing there. This time she dug her own grave. When Adrian didn’t speak anything, she made her way to the computer to send the mail as per Mr. Lee’s request. It was better to treat him invisible than see him shooting daggers at her.
“Who was on the call?” asked Adrian, who stood at the door.
“It was a call from a Korean company,” she answered, her fingers danced on the keyboard from one end to the other and her eyes were only on the monitor.
“What did they ask?” came another question from him.
“The man said there was a mistake about your details and wanted me to send your information again,” answered Amelia. He surely heard her, it would’ve been much better if he yelled at her or showed any signs of anger but he showed nothing. He was calm but the way he was questioning her, she knew she was doomed this time.
“What else did he ask?”
“Your name,” Amelia could only speak two words because by the time she replied, Adrian was right in front of her. She stopped whatever she was doing when she saw him walk around her desk.
“And what is my name?” Amelia leaned back to her chair when Adrian stood with the support of her desk. Mirth dancing in his eyes while nervousness in hers. She didn’t forget what he did to her in his cabin and here he was again making her heart pump faster when all he did was to only stand with his arms across his chest, a little away from her with decent distance between them.
“I’m sure you didn’t forget your name, Mr. Schneider,” there was no way she would show her stirred feelings right now. Amelia finally pressed the send button and mailed Adrian’s details to the Korean company.
“I didn’t, but the way you spell my name is very much amusing,” he hummed, making her swallow hard.
Amelia let out a dry laugh before she stood up on her feet to one of the shelves. How was she even supposed to reply to it now. Stupid, she scolded herself inwardly for not noticing him before. Amelia picked a random file from the shelf and flipped the pages as she waited for him to leave but the man had planned for something else when he said, “bring that file to me,” he said, pointing at the file that was in her hand.
What was he even planning to do. Being his employee, she obeyed him. Her feet padded towards him reluctantly and gave him the file he had asked her. Instead of taking the file, he held her wrist. “Look at me,” he commanded. She has been avoiding to even look at him since the time he came to her cabin. Not even once did she look at his side when all his attention was only on her.
“I have work to do,” she snapped, but didn’t look at him. She didn’t try to release her hand but only stood in front of him while he was in the same place as he was before.
“I never said you didn’t,” she heard him speak. “And I also didn’t mean the words I have said before.” It didn’t take Amelia much time to understand where the conversation was going. “I didn’t want to make you feel like an outsider, trust me.”
“It is a fact that I am an outsider and I am not upset because of it,” she pursed her lips and tried to release her hand from him. This man didn’t even understand where he was wrong!
“Then why look away when I am standing in front of you?” he didn’t like that she was trying to look away when all he wanted from her was to look at him.
“Why does it bother you?” she asked him and this time she looked at him.
“What do you mean by why?” he stared into her glassy eyes to see through her and she was definitely upset because of him. If it was not because of what he said then what was it!
“Am I only a dance partner to you?”
Was she upset because of this reason?
A soft chuckle escaped from his lips and then he pulled her close to him with his hand that held her wrist all this while. When his other another hand encircled her waist to grip her in his arms.
“Were you upset because of this?” Amelia glared at him while fighting the sparks in her body, her hands were rested on his chest to support herself.
“You should’ve just told that it was me with whom you danced,” he heard her speak. It was good that she was being frank with him instead of hiding her thoughts.
“I didn’t find any reason to explain them,” he spoke and when she tried to speak something, his hand that held her wrist went to touch her luscious lips from uttering another word. His eyes lingered on her lips for more than a second before she decided to speak.
“You don’t have to be upset because of that when you have many other things to do.” His voice was soothing and sultry that calmed her mind right now.
“Other things?” she asked him under her breath.
“Hmm… Things I want you to pick on your own as soon as possible.” Adrian murmured. His fingers were tracing her cheek and his thumb on her lips, sending shivers down her spine.
“I don’t understand what you are trying say,” her brows furrowed at his statement.
“Then let’s make you understand,” his hand made it’s way behind her head and brought it closer to him such that her ear was pressed to his chest. His heart was thumping faster and louder in sync with her heart beat, it was a perfect symphony.
