Amelia woke up to see herself resting on Adrian’s shoulder. She didn’t know for how long she had been sleeping and when she looked at her wrist watch, she realised she was asleep for more than an hour. All this while, she had been resting on his shoulder and the man didn’t even move an inch.
“How do you feel now?” it was Adrian who asked her, when he noticed her movements.
“Better, I guess. You should’ve woke me up,” she responded sluggishly.
“How could I when you looked so peaceful,” his fingers took hold of a few strands that covered her forehead to tug them behind her ear.
A faint smile crept on her face which didn’t break through her lips. She then got up to her feet to see her father through the glassed door. He was still unconcious, her chest ached at the sight of her father’s condition.
“Why is it that we do not realise a person’s importance in our life until we are away from them?” Adrian heard Amelia’s words. His eyes never left her. He could see the regret in her eyes, she must be blaming herself now, he thought.
“You will know the value of light only when you see the darkness, Amelia,” Adrian replied. A person’s presence in someone’s life was refferd as the light and the person’s absence was refferd as the darkness.
Darkness defines the value of light!
Amelia thought to herself.
“What is the point of appreciating light after darkness consumes it,” Amelia mumbled. What if it is too late for a person to realise someone’s worth in their life?!
“That is why you need to know it’s importance before it is too late. Your father is out of danger and when he regains his conciousness, you can have a talk with him. It is not too late,” Adrian gave an assuring smile.
Amelia gave a nod and took a seat on the cushion that was in the corridor. Adrian had suggested to come to the farm house with him but she decided to stay at the hospital. She wanted to be with her father until regains his conciousness. Her clothes were given to her and she took a quick shower in one of the vip rooms in the hospital.
By the time Amelia came out of the shower, Adrian had left. She wanted to speak to him about them but the man had to leave because of his work after Skylar assured him that she would take care of Amelia.
“Did Trevor tell you anything about me?” asked Amelia.
“He didn’t mention anything to me about you,” answered Skylar. He sure did comment on her loyalty as an employee and as a friend but he didn’t bring Amelia’s topic.
“I will have to have a word with Adrian in the evening,” Amelia sighed.
“How are you feeling now?” asked Skylar when she saw Amelia’s face. Her eyes were swollen, her face was pale and her hair was tied into a bun.
“I don’t know. I should’ve stayed back here in London,” Amelia mumbled and took a spoonful of her food and swallowed with an effort. She wasn’t hungry at all but with Skylar who forced her to eat, she had no other choice but to have at least a little of the food her friend had brought for her.
“You don’t have to blame yourself for anything, Amy. You did what you felt was right at that time. Didn’t you hate the man who wanted to marry you for some stupid land?!” Skylar answered. Amelia nodded thoughtfully. She would’ve been in a love-less marriage of she had stayed in London.
Amelia only nodded to what Skylar had spoken, though she listened to her, she was still upset. After a while, they heard a knock on the door. A young nurse had come to inform them that her father was now concious. Without delaying a second, Amelia rushed to see her father.
Amelia stood at the door and saw her father looking at the cealing and then slowly he teared his gaze from the white cealing to her, but he didn’t move his head. Amelia strode to the bed and her eyes were brimming with tears, she made sure not to break into tears, she knew her father hated to see her tears. He hated them and she tried her best not to cry in front of him but she couldn’t.
“Fa_ther..”
When was the last time she had spoken to him, may be it was the time when they had an aurgument. It has been ages since she called her father this way, with love in her eyes. She missed him a lot and the pain that she has been holding all this time, came out in the form of tears. She couldn’t hold them back, not after seeing him again after a long time.
“I’m sorry,” she spoke, above a whisper. She wanted to tell him many things but words didn’t form in her mind. Even the words that left her lips came out with much effort because of the bile in her throat and a feeling of heaviness in her heart.
Roman looked at his daughter. He thought he was dreaming until he saw her. She came for him and she was crying for him. His cold heart melted down to see his daughter. He shouldn’t be happy to see his daughter in tears but for some reason, his heart felt good. His daughter loved him even after what he had done to her all these years. He was not there for her when she needed him, he thought he was doing a good job by raising her and teaching her how a young lady from an elite family must behave.
Amelia who was looking at her father, saw a small smile on his face. Though he didn’t speak to her, his smile reached to his eyes.
“Please get well soon, father,” she said after wiping her tears that streaked down her cheeks.
Roman didn’t speak anything, he was too weak to even reply to his daughter. Why did she have to see him in this state. He never wanted his daughter to see him weak which is why he hid about his health when he had heart attack for the first time. She was a child when his wife fell sick. He didn’t want the little girl to remember her mother as a weak and sick woman. He thought his wife would recover soon. But who knew she would have an eternal sleep, leaving their daughter as his responsibility. It took him years to realise that he did a mistake by not letting his daughter spend her time with his wife during the last days.
He was angry at first when Amelia left him but as days passed, he realised his mistakes but he was too strong headed to admit them at that time. By the time he found her, he saw that she was leading a happy life without him. He never saw her cheerful smile when she was in London. Not wanting to take away her happiness when she just found it, he decided to let her live her own life. It was the emptiness in his heart after she left has made him realise what kind of a father he was until that very moment.
Amelia didn’t know for how long she sat beside her father. He didn’t utter a single word as she had expected, but at the same time he didn’t look at her with hatred. A ray of hope sustained in her heart that everything would be fine.
I hope this chapter was not too boring!
