About an hour after I returned to my office, I heard someone knock on the door. When I opened it, it was Marshall who had kept his word to go there.
– I arrived. – He said with a smile on his face and with open arms for me to hug him.
– I’m seeing. – I replied laughing while hugging him.
– I brought champagne. – he said.
– It’s too early to drink. You can leave it for later. – I answered.
– I knew you would say that. Then I’ll leave it for later. – he replied while sitting in one of the armchairs that faced my table.
During all these years, he tried to help me with money, but I never allowed it. Since I didn’t accept it, he kept me company and supporting me all these years. So, we ended up building a friendship between us. revealed my secret to anyone.
– Is anyone there? – He asked me while waving his hand in front of my face when he realized I was lost in thought.
– Sorry. I was remembering when we started our friendship. – I answered.
– I’m glad you have me. Only then you can be yourself. – he said with a convincing tone.
– You are not convinced at all. – I said looking at him and he laughed.
– Why haven’t you gone to get ready for tonight? – he asked me.
– I’m waiting for Mr. Evans’ secretary to come here. – I answered.
And as soon as I finished speaking, I heard someone knock on the office door.
– In between. – I talked.
And that was exactly who I was expecting, Emily.
– Why did you tell Mr. Evans to fire me? – she asked me and looked confused.
– For you to be my secretary. – I answered.
– What ? – she asked\, confused.
– That’s exactly what you heard. – I said.
– Miss\, you are so generous. – she said smiling.
– I only did what was necessary. I have seen Mr. Evans scorn you and your qualities all these years. – I said.
And it was true. During the six years I went to the bank, I always saw Mr. Evans scream and swear at Emily without reason. I had the idea of hiring her as my secretary very quickly, I was just waiting for the moment to get rid of debt to do this.
– Thank you very much Miss. When do I start? – she asked me.
– Tomorrow morning. – I answered.
– I’ll be on time. – she said.
– Don’t worry. See you tomorrow. – I said while leading her to the door for her to leave.
– See you. – she replied and left.
So I closed the office door and went back to my desk and sat in my chair facing Marshall so that we could continue talking.
– I think it’s time to get ready. – I said while looking at the time on my watch.
– You’re right. Do you want a ride? – he asked me.
– I would love to. – I said with a smile on my face.
We both got up and left my room. We went down to the parking lot and got into his car so we could get out and he would drop me off at home.
– Since when did you stop using your driver? – I asked him.
– Since today. – he replied smiling.
– So I’m the first guinea pig to get in the car while you were driving? – I asked while looking at him in amazement and with one of my eyebrows raised.
– Actually\, you are the second. The first person was my instructor at the Driving School. – he replied laughing.
– It calms me down a lot. – I replied while looking at the window.
We arrived at my uncle’s house very quickly. He parked in front of the entrance gate and I got out.
– Do you want me to come and get you? – he asked me.
– Don’t worry. I’ll go with Tobias and my uncle. – I answered.
– Okay then. See you later. – He said and immediately started the car.
I just started waving my hand, making a “bye” sign and when he was about to enter a street, he put his hand out of the car and waved back.
I started walking towards the door of my uncle’s house, and when I was about to open, Tobias opened the door and leaned against the wall with his arms crossed.
– Who brought you? – he asked me.
– Marshall. – I answered.
– Hmm.
– I’m going up to get ready. Where is your father? – I asked him.
– It’s getting ready. I’m also going to get ready\, I was just waiting for you to arrive. – He answered me.
I didn’t say anything, just nodded and started walking towards the stairs. Suddenly I heard the noise of the closed door and turned around to see why the noise had been so loud. As soon as I turned around, I didn’t see anything, because of Tobias who hugged me tight and buried my head with my face turned to his chest and I hugged him back.
– Diana\, you left me for Marshall. – he said.
– I didn’t trade you for anyone. I just made a friend. – I answered.
– I wouldn’t feel that way\, if you were my girlfriend. – he said looking into my eyes.
– Tobias\, I’m not ready yet. – I replied while letting go.
– Okay. Let’s get ready. – he said.
I took a deep breath and shook my head positively. He took one of my hands and we started up the stairs. When we turned down the hall, my uncle was leaving his room dressed in a black suit and tie and the shirt inside was white.
– How am I ? – He asked us with a smile on his face while taking a little walk.
– It’s wonderful. – I replied making an expression of surprise. As soon as those words came out of my mouth\, I felt like retching.
– Thank you my dear. I’ll be waiting for you downstairs. – he said as he passed by us.
– Right. – Tobias and I answered immediately.
We each went to your room. As soon as I opened the door to my room, my dress was on top of my bed, as I had left it. I went straight to the bathroom and took a quick but relaxing shower. I started with the hair. I did the same braid as always, starting at the height of the shoulders and going up to the height of my hips. I did a makeup that highlighted my eyes well and I put a red lipstick on my lips.
I was no longer wearing glasses. I had made them a few years ago, and I claimed to my uncle and Tobias that I would start wearing contact lenses.
I grabbed my dress and started putting it on. It was a black, sleeveless dress, with bare dimensions and with a slit in my left leg that went up to the middle of my thigh. I put on my pair of high heels that were also black, grab a small purse just to put my cell phone, invitations and identification documents and left my room. I locked the door and headed towards the stairs to go down and meet my uncle and Tobias.
As soon as I got to the bottom of the stairs, the two came over to the bottom step to see me. Tobias gaped when he saw me and he and my uncle held out their hands to help me down the stairs.
– Close your mouth. You’re drooling. – I said while looking at Tobias.
– It’s just that you look very beautiful. – he replied.
– Thanks. – I said with a smile.
– We can go ? asked my uncle.
– Yes. – I replied and soon after we started walking to leave the house.
Tobias was driving, my uncle in the passenger seat on the driver’s side and me in the back seat. We headed towards the city center to get to Shopping Paradise. The party we were going to was in an area apart from the Mall that was intended We got there really fast, I didn’t even see the time go by. We got out of the car and Tobias immediately came to my side to offer me one of his arms. After all, he was my escort. We took the elevator to the tenth floor and we went to the ballroom.
There were security guards at the entrance asking for invitations to prevent uninvited people from entering the party.
– Invitations please. – one of the security guards asked.
As soon as I opened my purse to take out the invitations, I heard a voice behind me say:
– It’s not necessary. The party is for her.
– Marshall. – I said with a smile on my face and saw that Tobias didn’t like seeing him that early.
– Welcome to your celebration party\, Miss King. said Marshall as he took one of my hands and kissed it.
