Maybe I had gone crazy once and for all. I was in the car of the man who tried to kill me a week ago. I didn’t need to have invited him to lunch to say he wouldn’t look for me anymore. I was completely sorry about my invention. .But there was nothing else to do.
I still felt that I loved him, but all the confidence I had in him broke completely like broken glass when he stabbed me.
I was determined to say everything as quickly as possible and did not intend to go back to my office in his car.
Marshall had told me that Tobias thought I would forgive him and stay with him even after the week before. I needed to be short and thick so that he understood once and for all that I didn’t want him in my life anymore.
We went all the way to the restaurant without saying a word. I didn’t think about where we were going. The less I said, the better.
After about twenty minutes of leaving our office, we arrived at the restaurant. It was a little far from the center of Diamond and that didn’t make me happy.
Tobias got out of the car and came to open the door for me, but I didn’t allow it. I opened the door myself and got out of the car. We started walking together inside the establishment and when we got in, he went to check the reservation he had made in the morning.
– This way\, sir and miss. – said the receptionist directing us to our table.
As we sat down, he passed us the menu and Tobias chose to eat salmon.
– And the lady? – asked the waiter.
– The same as him. – I answered.
I decided to eat the same as him to save me both the time to order and the time I would be around him. I was not getting comfortable around him like before and it was bothering me a lot.
– Can I speak first? – he asked me.
– Feel free. – I replied without looking at him.
– Diana\, I know I was wrong. I was confused by the fact that you were the cause of the hatred I had been feeling for the death of my family members. But I want to redeem myself from all my mistakes. I promise that if you forgive me and stay with me\, i will make you the happiest person in the world. – he said while trying to take one of my hands.
But I put them close to me so he wouldn’t try to do that again.
– Diana\, don’t you love me anymore? – he asked me.
– I love you Tobias. – I said finally looking at him and he smiled. – But there’s nothing in this world that will make me stay with you. I left you alive\, because I wanted to have a life with you\, but you didn’t see it and wanted to get back at me. You chose to have an eternal cycle of hate instead of understand my whole situation. – I said.
– Diana\, I love you. Forgive me\, please. – he said\, pleading.
– I’m dating Marshall. – I said looking into his eyes and I realized when he closed his fist-shaped hand about to punch someone.
– You break up with him. – he said in almost a whisper.
– I will not break up with him. And I will be very short and thick with you so that you understand once and for all.
– Here is lunch for you and you. Enjoy. – said the waiter while placing our dishes on the table.
– I don’t want to hear you say that\, Diana. – he said with eyes full of tears.
– If I had been thinking before acting or if I had not kept false hopes about myself\, I would not be suffering at that moment. – I said and felt my face with no expression of feelings.
– Please. – he pleaded again.
– I don’t want you in my life anymore\, Tobias. This is our last date. I don’t want to hear from you. I don’t want to hear from you anymore. – I said looking at him.
– Diana … – he said my name while crying.
At that moment I couldn’t feel anything for him. Neither compassion nor pity. But I had a pain in my chest that bothered me. And I knew it was because I was expelling someone I loved from my life.
However, it was too late. He had destroyed everything we both had built over the years while I was preparing to have a relationship with him. And I was not willing to rebuild it all.
I kept eating while trying to ignore his presence in front of me as much as possible and when I finished, I got up to go to the bathroom. I wanted to take a breath, stop feeling the tension that was in my body because I was close to him. It was sad. me facing my cousin, the man I loved for six years and feeling like he was a stranger or an almost killer.
I washed my face and touched up all my makeup before leaving the bathroom. When I returned to the table, the waiter had already taken our plates leaving only two glasses of water for both of us.
– I already paid the bill. – he said in a sad voice.
– We can go then. And by the way\, I won’t be back with you. – I said almost getting up.
– Wait a minute. Aren’t you going to drink your water? – he asked me.
And then I realized that there was something strange. Why make so much point for water?
– I’m not thirsty. – I said.
– Drink some. You only drank juice while eating. – he said.
So I took a deep breath and said:
– It’s ok.
I took the cup and gave it a little sniff to see if it smelled suspicious. Even though I didn’t feel anything, I was suspicious. So I just wet my lips, wiped the napkin and stood up.
So we left the restaurant and started walking towards the taxi stand.
– Let me do you that last favor at least. – He asked me.
– It’s all right. – I answered.
We started walking and got into his car quickly. I had accepted this ride, because I wanted to know what was his little game.
– You’re pretty smart. – he said while driving.
– I knew you put something in the cup. I can’t trust you anymore. – I answered.
– You almost left without me getting what I wanted. – he said.
– As well ? – I asked confused.
Soon afterwards I felt dizzy and my eyes began to darken little by little.
– What I put in your cup\, is a colorless and odorless powder that will make you sleep after being inhaled through your nostrils. – he said.
– You bastard. – I talked.
– Hahahahaha. – he laughed.
And suddenly everything went dark. The last thing I thought at that moment was:
– Marshall\, help me.
