– Maybe you’re a little upset about what I’m going to tell you. But I’d rather you know for me. – said Marshall after he had been silent for a few minutes.
– You can say. – I said. I was already getting distressed.
– I told Tobias to leave Diamond City and he was gone. – he said.
Upon hearing this, I felt nothing but great relief. I would no longer need to meet Tobias. Marshall had done the best thing possible.
– I’m glad you did that. You don’t know how relieved I am to know that I won’t bump into him anymore. – I commented.
– I thought you would be sad and angry at me for that. – He said after sighing relieved.
– Why would I be sad and upset? You are trying your best to see me happy. – I asked.
– Because you love him. – he replied with a sad look.
But when he said that I couldn’t feel anything. I think I wasn’t loving Tobias since that moment.
– I’m not sure about that. – I talked.
– How can I not? – he asked surprised.
– He destroyed the good feeling I had for him\, Marshall. I don’t feel anything when I hear his name. My heart doesn’t even accelerate anymore. – I answered.
– You’ll know in time. – He said looking into my eyes and caressing one of my hands that was on the table.
– Yes. – I just managed to say that. I didn’t want to talk about Tobias anymore.
We continued to have lunch and while we ate, we both called our offices and gave them the day off. We weren’t going to show up at our offices that day. We had agreed to go to my house so he could see my childhood photos.
I didn’t want to do that, but seeing the excitement in his eyes when he talked about his curiosity to see how I was a child, made me summon up the courage to remove from the basement all the photos I had kept in the short time that I stayed there when I returned to the city.
– Let’s go upstairs to brush our teeth and we can go right away. – I said pulling one of his hands down the hotel corridor.
I could only hear his laughter behind me because I was pulling his hand. We took the elevator and went down on our floor. Each entered his room to brush his teeth and a few minutes later, we left at the same time.
We took the elevator and went to the hotel garage. There we got in his car and went to my house. We went all the way talking and laughing.
– We’re here. – I said when he went through the entrance gate.
– Can I put the car here? – he asked me.
– Yes you can. – I answered.
He parked the car and we entered the house. The day before, he had hurried in to help me with Tobias. And because of that, he hadn’t paid attention to the house.
– She is simple and very beautiful. – he commented.
– My parents did not like to live in luxury. They taught me early on the value of humility. – I commented.
– They gave you a great education. – he said smiling.
– Yes. – I replied happily.
– Where are the pictures ? – he asked when he noticed that all the pictures and frames were without photos.
– I put it in a box in the basement. – I said looking at the floor.
– Why dear ? – he asked me as he lifted my face with his hand on my chin.
– Because it was very difficult to walk in here with the pictures of my parents scattered throughout the house. – I said almost crying.
– Calm princess. Don’t cry. – he said hugging me.
I buried my face in his chest in an attempt to control the tears that had come to my eyes. It was at that moment that I realized that I still hadn’t gotten over my parents’ death. For thirteen years, I didn’t think of anything but I had not been able to mourn their death. And whenever I found myself thinking about them, an uncontrollable urge to cry invaded my whole being.
– Come\, the basement is this way. – I said taking Marshall’s hand and leading him to a door that was in the corner of the living room. We went down the stairs and I took the box where I had put the photos. We went up again and sat on the living room sofa. It was worth hiring someone every week to clean the house. It was spotless.
– I can open ? – asked Marshall with the box on his lap.
– Feel free. – I replied with a smile on my face.
He looked so happy about it. He looked like a child opening a gift. As soon as he lifted the lid of the box, he had a picture of my parents hugging.
– Are they your parents? – he asked me with the photo in hand.
– Yes. – I replied looking at the photo.
– They were beautiful. – he said.
– Thanks. – I answered.
– Do you know how they met? – He asked me while taking another photo. In that\, I was with them.
– My father was already vice president of the family group\, but he wanted to go to business school to be able to do his job with excellence. My mother was in his class and he was delighted with her beauty. But my mother came from a very poor family. When my father found out that mom had failed to fulfill the internship hourly load\, he arranged an internship for her as his secretary. And he used this opportunity to get close to her. Over time\, she fell in love However\, my paternal grandmother did not like her just because she is poor and likes to dye her hair in different colors constantly and because she wears contact lenses. But Daddy married Mom anyway\, because he said that only grandpa’s blessing that mattered to him. – I talked.
– Wow. How much courage for a love. – he commented smiling at me.
– Yes.- I replied wiping a tear that had fallen from my eye.
– I just found a photo of you. – he said shouting and showing me the photo.
– Did it kill your curiosity? – I asked smiling.
– Yes. You were beautiful. And you still are. – he said smiling at me. – But I have a question. Why don’t you have pictures of you teenager and adult? he asked then.
– I stopped taking pictures when my parents died and I don’t look the same anymore. – I answered.
– Good. I have two pictures of you that look like this. – he said putting his hand in his pants pocket and pulling two photos. – This is when you were sixteen. – he said as he passed me one. – And this one\, twenty-two before the scar on your left eye. – he said as he passed me the other one.
– The difference is very big. – I said while comparing the photos he gave me with the photo from when I was little.
– You are still beautiful my dear. Never forget that. – He said giving a kiss on my forehead and pulling me to hug him.
After staying in this position for a long time, we went back to the basement and put the box back in place. We left my house and went back to the hotel to get ready to go to dinner with his father.
