Alexandra and Marco quarreled about the emperor matter earlier. Alexandra was about to tell the truth regarding her identity but Marco prevented her. Both have different reasons for doing so and Alexandra could not accept Marco’s opinion. They were whispering arguments with gritted teeth while in the hallways and even disregarding every servant’s greetings.
“Would you drag this complication until there is no solution at all?” Alexandra asked as they stopped by the garden.
“I just don’t want to create an unnecessary uproar in the empire…”
“But!”
“No buts. This is not just about your conscience if that’s what you’re thinking of,” Marco said and turned towards the bushes. Alexandra trembled and speechlessly pointed the bushes upon seeing the leaves move. Marco turned around as he placed his hands on his waist. He frowned. “What are you…?”
“Snake!!!” she screamed and tried to find something to squash it before it could hurt the prince. She found a trowel by the bench then she pushed Marco aside as she waited for the snake to show itself. She was about to hit it with the trowel but Marco was quick to catch her wrist as the second prince crawled out.
“Oh my goodness! I thought I’d undergo a painful treatment,” Nico sighed in relief. “Dear brother, you saved my face,” he said to Marco and turned towards Alexandra. His expression changed from frowning to smiling. “Is she the girl that night?” he immediately asked Marco disregarding their unusual frontal encounter.
Everyone says that the second prince is a gay or a bisexual so many people does not like him as much as they like the crown prince. Though some of the maidservants still yearn for the second prince’s glance while knowing that side of him.
For Alexandra, the second prince is the friendliest among the siblings. Not only does he help some servants in his leisure time but he also smiles and greets everyone with equal treatment. That is why male or female servants couldn’t help but adore him.
“That night,” Marco echoed Nico’s words and gazed intently into his brother’s eyes. It was as if they were having a mental conversation and Alexandra was out of place.
“Good heavens! I didn’t know it was you,” Nico faced Alexandra with apologetic gaze. “I don’t know what those people were thinking to setup my brother. But thanks to you he was not sued for sexual abuse. If it was any random girl, this brother of mine would be doomed,” he said and stood to greet her formally. “I don’t know what you were talking about earlier but I am grateful to you whatever your motives are,” he spoke briefly.
“We were both victims, your highness. I didn’t save him nor did I know he was the third prince,” she spoke with reverence although she wanted to explain and argue about everything and about the setup.
“Anyway, you have to take care of your body now that you’re carrying an heir. Cielo wouldn’t want Sania to take over the throne because it weighs too much and he wouldn’t want his daughter to live a life full of deceit, treachery, or betrayal.”
“And I think your charade is about to end if she gives birth to a son,” Marco said bluntly. Those words turned Nico’s brown complexion to pale as if color had left his skin.
“What do you mean?” Alexandra and Nico asked in unison, she out of curiosity and the latter out of reluctance. They exchanged gazes before Marco pulled Alexandra back to his side.
“I don’t want to expose you because I respect you and you have done so much for me. But Nico, brother, I think you should be brave enough to speak up.”
Nico’s ashen face recovered. A thin smile escaped his lips. “You’re no fun at all,” he shook his head and left the garden grounds. “I don’t want to pry any further,” he said before he strode away until no one was around to bother them.
“Now…”
“Now what?” Alexandra urged. Marco smirked.
“I don’t have any problem if you expose yourself. But as long as you are carrying my child and the Hongs are lurking around, I won’t allow your hasty behavior.”
“But…”
“What if my father ordered you to be imprisoned? What happens to my unborn child?” Marco asked that left Alexandra speechless. Marco is right. Vicente Do is a vicious man and he could sacrifice everything and anything he needs just to gain power and glory for himself. “The Hong family has scattered and the members are no longer using that surname due to lack of male heirs. Do you think you’d be spared if both of our families caught you?”
“I’m well aware.”
“No you’re not. You only know that you are a pawn waiting to be discarded anytime. Vicente Do has risen to power and is trying very hard to take my family down. With what motive? He only wants to prevent an Angenas name in the empire. What can he do then after that?”
“You don’t have to slap that question to my face. I can see for myself and discern the truth. That’s all you need to know,” she said and left Marco alone.
Everyone regarded Alexandra as a respectable guest when Alexandra entered the chambers. All their mockery and disrespectful behavior were gone but she can still feel their dislike. The next morning, five maidservants were tasked to help her dress up and get ready for the transfer. She was escorted by five palace guards to the third prince’s chambers.
She was still pondering about the sudden change of events as she entered the third prince’s study. The guards immediately left her so she wasn’t able to ask them anything. She laid back on the couch as she felt her back sore from an uncomfortable sleep last night.
