The next morning they flew to Hong Kong.
“Anthony.”
“Boss, good to see you, how was the flight?”
“Long, any updates?”
“A few more sightings but nothing concrete. Let me show you to your room and we can discuss it later over dinner.”
(2 weeks later in Hong Kong)
“Any sign of her?” Said Chris.
“Not a trace.” Said David.
“She has to be somewhere. She can’t have just vanished into thin air.”
“I don’t know what to tell you, boss. We’ve been here for two weeks and nothing. She might not even still be in Hong Kong?”
“We are the f*cking Fire Breathing Dragons. How can we not find one f*cking little woman?”
“Boss, we have to go home. Simon said everything is falling apart without you there to rule.”
“Ok, tell Michael to fuel up, we’ll leave in the morning.”
“Ok.”
“But the search for her continues unless I say otherwise.”
“Of course.”
David walk away.
“Your days are number Esther. Mark my words!”
(2 year later)
Yes, that’s right… 2 year later.
Chris new home.
“You looking for me, boss?” Said David.
“Update me.”
“Vincent and Brandon still won’t say who the traitor is. And I’m telling you, boss, they’re close to death.”
“You keep them alive, they’ll die at my hands. When I’m ready or not before then.”
“Well, still nothing on Esther. It’s been 2 year boss, isn’t it time you forgot about her?”
“Are you f*cking with me? I will never give up! Nobody double crosses me and gets away with it.”
“Ok, chill. We have that shipment coming in tonight.”
“You and Jacob take care of it, I’m busy.”
David nodded.
Somewhere in Beijing
(3 Months Later.)
I often think about how far I’ve come over the last 2 year and a half. I didn’t stay in Hong Kong for too long, I knew that they will trace me there and I was a bit lonely there. I often find myself wondering about Chris and The Fire Breathing Dragons. And I nearly went back many times in the early months after I left. But deep down I knew that I could never go back. I left Hong Kong and travel to Beijing finally settling in a quiet little apartment. Somewhere I could easily blend into the crowd. Things had been hard at first but I worked day and night. I took any jobs I could, to get where I am today. And as I glanced around my little bakery, I smiled to myself. I still can’t believe it’s mine. I have two part-time girls who help me out, but I mostly work the bakery myself. I can’t afford to pay a lot of staff yet. But business is certainly taking up.
A customer entering the shop brought me out of my daydream.
“Hi, welcome to Bake n’ Flake. What can I get for you? I said.
(30 minutes later)
“Finally time to go home”
(Back in Shanghai)
(1 Month later.)
Jacob running to Chris.
“Boss, we have a sighting of Esther.”
“Jacob, we’ve had hundreds of sightings. But is it her?”
“It’s her, Rodger in Beijing sent a photo. Take a look.”
He hand over the phone to Chris.
“Where is she?” He asks Jacob.
“In Miyun, a small apartment outside Beijing. She’s working in a bakery there.”
“She was under our nose the whole time.” He said in anger. “Tell Michael to get the jet ready. I’m flying to Beijing in the morning.”
Jacob nods.
“I have you now Esther.”
(The next morning.)
“We’re nearly there, so what’s the plan?” Said David.
“I quiet fancy a coffee. Maybe at Bake n’ Flake.”
They arrive at Bake n’ Flake.
“Bake n’ Flake, huh?”
They all went inside the bakery.
“Good morning, gentlemen, can I take your order?”
He turn around.
“Chris?!” She said in shockingly.
“Hello, Esther! Did you think that you could hide from me forever?”
