(A few days later)
“Boss, guess what?” Said David.
“Do you know how many god damn ships have passed by out here today?” Said Chris.
“Boss, I fou…”
“For f*ck’s sake, if there are bloody ships passing in the distance. Then we can’t be too far from civilization? It’s been weeks, why haven’t they fucking found us yet?”
“CHRIS!”
“What, David?” He turns around.
“I found some SOS flares on the plane. We can let them off next time we see a ship or a plane. And hopefully someone will see them.”
“Why didn’t you say so, you fool.” He ran to the plane.
“I did try.” He rolled his eyes.
(A few days later)
“What’s wrong, Liam?” Esther ask him.
“Want Daddy.” He said sadly.
“I know you do, honey, but Daddy had to go away.”
Liam started to cried.
“What’s wrong little man?” Said Simon.
“Want Daddy.”
“Do you want to come outside and play ball? Collins is out there.”
“Ok.”
“You go out to Collins and I’ll follow you out.”
He nodded and went outside.
“Jacob, said to remind you that you have a doctors appointment today. He said he’ll take you.”
“I’m not going.” She said.
“Esther, you’re going.”
“I said I’m not going, so please inform Jacob.”
“Don’t you need an ultrasound or whatever it’s called?”
“I don’t need anything.”
“Think of the baby, Esther.”
“Don’t we have a private doctor on the grounds here?”
“Yes, we do but he doesn’t specialize in pregnant women.”
“What’s the point in having a private doctor on the grounds if he can’t do sh*t.”
“He takes out bullets, that’s what he’s here for. If you don’t want to go to the doctor then fine, take it up with Jacob. He has more experience with pregnant women than I do.” He said and went back downstairs.
“What’s wrong now?” Ask Jacob.
“What’s ever wrong?”
“Esther?”
“She’s refusing to see the doctor today. I can’t deal with her, Jacob, you need to speak to her.”
“Ok.”
“I’ll take Liam today and Esther’s all yours.”
“If Esther won’t go to the doctor then the doctor will come to her.”
(The next day)
“What did the doctor say yesterday?” Jacob asked.
“I would thank you not to go behind my back like that again!”
“Look, Esther, I know you’re hurting but you have to think of the baby.”
“I’m not hurting and the baby is just fine.”
“Did you have the ultrasound?”
“No, but the doctor listened to the heartbeat and said it was strong.”
“Why won’t you have the ultrasound?”
“I’m not ready, Chris was looking forward to the first one.”
“How far along are you?”
“He thinks around 16 or 17 weeks.”
“You need to have an ultrasound soon, Esther.”
“I will, just stop going on about it.”
(A few days later)
“We’ve use all the flares and nobody has came.” Said Chris.
“What are we going to do?” Said David.
“Looks like we’re stuck here.”
“We won’t live for very long, there’s not much food left.”
“I just hope they caught Robert.”
“We’ll never know, boss.”
“No, I guess we won’t.”
(Meanwhile, back to Esther.)
“Breaking news again?”
“Welcome to Breaking News and tonight we bring you an update on the search for Christopher Wang and co. It has been confirmed by air rescue that they’re scaling back the search for the missing plane. They would like to reassure the families that they are continuing the search but on a smaller scale. Air intensive searches of the Pacific Ocean for the last six weeks. No trace of the plane or it’s occupants have been found. Police cheif Xia of the Shanghai police department has said that it may be time to declare everyone in board dead. And maybe a memorial funeral might give the families some closure. We will bring you more as we receive it. Time to go to break.”
“You can’t declare them dead without bodies, you idiot! I don’t want closure. I don’t want it!”
“Are you ok?” Jacob asked.
“No, I’m not ok. They’re talking about declaring Chris dead.”
“You know he’s dead Esther, deep down you know.”
“No, he’s not!”
“Ok then, Esther, where is he?”
“He… he…” She mumbled.
“I know that if Chris were alive he’d be here. He would never leave Liam this long. Or you, Esther.”
“I can’t accept it, I just can’t.” She cried.
“You can and you will. For Liam’s sake. For your unborn baby’s sake. You can’t hold on to a ghost, Esther. You need to let Chris Rest In Peace.”
“Will you arrange it? The memorial.” She ask him.
“I will.” He said and walk away.
“What am I going to tell Liam? How am I supposed to tell him that his Daddy is never coming home?” She cried.
“Esther gave the go ahead for the memorial.”
“When?” Said Simon.
“As soon as we can arrange it.”
“This make everything so final. I can’t believe that we’re never going to see any of them again.”
“I know.”
(A few Days later. Day of memorial)
“I can’t believe it’s the memorial already.” She cried.
Suddenly I hear a voice behind my back.
“I hear you’ve been giving my men a hard time?”
I turns around and saw Chris.
“Did you miss me, Baby?”
I ran over to him and hugged him.
“Oh my god, Chris, am I dreaming?”
“You’re not dreaming, baby.”
