——–
Unfamiliar faces regarded Xiao Zhan as they come along inside the classroom for the day’s Parent-Teacher meeting. A slight smile flourished at the tip of his mouth as he greeted them back feeling slightly ecstatic as this would be the first time he’ll be leading a meeting in this academia.
However, his expression abruptly turned impassive when he saw a very unforgettable face coming in.
Wang Yi Bo.
He wasn’t expecting to see him again. Their eyes met, but only one pair of eyes lingered. Yi Bo’s eyes averted Zhan’s gaze immediately, as if he did not recognize him and instead just care-freely sat beside Yuan, one of Zhan’s student.
‘Wang Yuan. Wang. His brother?’ Xiao Zhan thought, but his curiosity immediately faded as the principal signaled him to start the agenda.
The meeting commenced and Zhan has fluently delivered the talk, which gained nods of approval from both the parents and his students, ‘Nothing less to expect from someone who studied abroad.’ is what they where subconsciously thinking.
Xiao Zhan knows about this type of expectations, a clinche social expectation for people who has lived/traveled even for just a few months overseas. Yet, he is the type to excel anyway, wherever he is, whatever there is.
As his eyes roamed around the room, there is this special spot, wherein his eyes kept on landing. Yet, on the other’s behalf, this meeting is of no use, and of no interest for Wang Yi Bo. He is deliberately not paying any attention to Xiao Zhan, keeping himself busy with his mobile phone, tapping and clicking madly as if his life depended on it. He had received several side-blows from Yuan’s elbow to stop him from doing his business, but he will only elbow Yuan a bit harder than what he received, “I said I will come, but I didn’t say, I will listen. You’re old enough to understand what he’s talking about.”
“You shouldn’t have come if you will be this disrespectful.”
“Tss. And who begged me to come?” WYB hissed.
Yuan knotted his brow, looking at his brother unbelievably. ‘As if I have someone else to come!’
Their parents are both currently abroad for some business matters, extending their absence for a long overdue vacation, leaving the two brothers on their own for a few weeks, or maybe a month or two. Yuan, a 2nd year high school student, and his carefree brother, Yi Bo, aged 22.
As soon as the meeting ended, WYB stood up as if in a haste to leave, answering a call on his phone, “Alright! Alright! I’ll be there soon!” He spun around to see if Yuan is ready to go with him, he had the duty to send him to school and back home whilst their parents are away. To his dissatisfaction, his brother is dragging his arms and legs, throwing a tantrum.
“Can you hurry up?! Someone’s waiting for me!”
Yuan eyed him with scrutiny, “Which girl is it this time?”
WYB seemed to be caught off handed, eyes opening wide, before digging his knuckle on his brother’s head. “None of little kid’s business!”
Xiao Zhan was watching the whole scene a strange feeling both in his head and chest. But it wasn’t actually just him who is watching. Even the parents and students around where all eyes and ears on the Wang brothers’ conversation as well.
Wang Yi Bo is a good-looking charismatic young adult, who wouldn’t spare a glance anyway? If he wants, he can enter the entertainment business without a doubt. He could be the next Hyun Bin, if he can act, or the next Jungkook if he can sing and dance.
“You’ve changed a lot.” Zhan unconsciously said with a sigh and a small smile.
“Who changed a lot? Are you alright? You seem a bit off.” the inquiring tone brought Zhan back to the present.
The young lad, was staring at him with a raised eyebrow. It seems like Xiao Zhan was facing a mirror as he stared at him, unless the fact that he wasn’t 15 anymore, and the hair style is a bit more exaggerated on this little one. He let out a wide smile and placed his hand on the student’s head, softly ruffling his dyed hair.
This student is Xiao Jian and he is Zhan’s younger brother…and student. In class, they are of only teacher-student relation, sometimes, of course, it will slip off Jian’s mind, thus Zhan needs to remind him. And sometimes like this, Zhan can’t stop himself from being the older brother he is.
It has been 3 long years of separation, anyway. He had only been back a few weeks before today. The warm and humid weather is definitely not the either damp or chilly breeze of winter in England.
“Just the weather, maybe?” Xiao Zhan finally mustered shaking his head to clear his mind.
Jian, “If you say so.”
