Xiao’s mansion
The following day, Jian was woken up by clang of sounds from downstairs. With eyes still tired and sleepy, he took steps towards where the sound was coming from.
He lazily sat on the bar chair in the kitchen, head resting on the cold granite-table top. The clock chimed 6 times and he couldn’t help but complain, “Brother, it’s only 6 am. Why are you so early?” He has noted Zhan has already taken a shower, changed into his working suit, and ready to leave the house.
Zhan spun around to face Jian with a mild smile. “I’ve prepared your breakfast.” Ruffling Jian’s bed-hair, “I’ll be back by half seven to bring you to school. Make sure you’re ready by then.”
Xiao Zhan did not explain where he is going so early in the morning, or what he is up to with such a scrumptious breakfast packed, but Jian understood. A sheepish smile crossed his face. “Zhan-xiong, say Hello to brother Yi Bo for me.”, he teased.
Zhan’s hand ruffling Jian’s hair came to a stop, his eyes mildly opening wide. After a pause, he shortly reposted “I will.” avoiding any more conversation then hastily bid goodbye, hands carefully grasping the breakfast he had made for Yi Bo.
With a wide smile still plastered across Jian’s face, he followed his brother’s figure until the doorway. He can trace anticipation and sprightfulness eminating from Zhan. He hasn’t seen him with such high-spirit towards someone, thus, he couldn’t fathom why his brother rejected Yi Bo’s hearsay confession.
Like a bulb blinking brightly inside his mind, Jian ran upstairs and ransacked his brother’s monochrome, boring and office-like bedroom for any evidence.
Like what they did in Yi Bo’s room, he flipped everything upside-down. Searched all slits and corners, not caring if his brother will find out what he has done.
‘He will forgive me anyway.’
With this thought, he continue rummaging through his belongings, until he’d found what he was looking for.
At the top of Xiao Zhan’s office cabinet was a dull grey storage box, Jian was about to neglect its content of video tapes, vintage film rolls, old camera, and random paper of no importance to Jian, when he saw a picture of a 15 y/o Wang Yi Bo widely-and-lovingly smiling towards whoever was the photographer of that photo, whom of course is nonetheless, Xiao Zhan.
Jian’s instinct urged him that he’ll find out more from those roll of films and tapes, however, those are tools only the generations before him knows how to utilise.
He sank to the floor, legs crossed, then pondered: he needs to find a shop which can turn those films into a photo print and those tapes into a laptop compatible videos.
He dialled Yuan’s phone number to make a forced agreement with him then sent his brother a commanding text message, foolishly smiling and wordlessly applauding his cheekiness self-proclaimed brilliance.

Hospital
Humming as he parked his car at the almost empty carpark, Xiao Zhan can’t help but wonder what has gotten into him to do this much effort for Wang Yi Bo. “We aren’t even friends.” he reprimanded himself. Contesting it immediately afterwards, “but we were very good friends back then.”
The last phrase made his chest twinge. He grimaced and moved his hand to where his heart is, instantly closing his palm while feeling its emptiness.
“It’s all in the past.” he glanced sideway onto the rearview mirror afixing a smile on his face.
He made his way to the 5th floor, greeting the staffs at the workstation. They nodded in salutation as he passed by them, ignoring the rule that visitors are allowed only from 10am. They already know he has connections to the management which gives him this special favour.
He tacitly sneaked inside Yi Bo’s hospital room, cautiously striding in silence.
Yi Bo is still in the middle of his sleep. His eyelids still remarkably red and swollen from yesterday’s cry. Zhan took a step closer to examine his facial wounds, relieved that they are healing well. Yet, this distance is too close that he can’t help but be dazed as this Adonis lay motionless in front of him. Yi Bo’s sharp features are as breathtaking as he could remember.
He needed to take a sharp breath, as Yi Bo’s angelic face when asleep is too enticing for Xiao Zhan to take. The more he stare, the more he couldn’t keep his eyes away from him.
Without him noticing, his fingers reached Yi Bo’s forehead, brushing his hair away from his eyes. However, this gesture had made Yi Bo’s lashes flutter, followed by his eyes opening.
“Yi Bo-di.” Xiao Zhan lowly whispered but the other did not respond. Instead, Yi Bo’s lips formed a smile and his eyes lazily closed again. But before he fell back to sleep, he had pulled Xiao Zhan to his chest, cuddling the shocked Xiao Zhan between his arms.
“Wang Yi Bo! Wake up!” Xiao Zhan protested but instead Yi Bo’s arms tightened even more around him. His casted arm was bearing weight on Zhan’s side, it felt heavy and uncomfortable, but he doesn’t want to cause more harm by pushing it away.
“…–ss you.” Yi Bo mustered in his sleep.
“What?” Zhan questioned but not anticipating any reply from a half-dead person.
To his amazement, Yi Bo responded in an almost incomprehensible murmur. “Zhan-ge…I…miss…you…everyday.”
Xiao Zhan’s heart suddenly made a skip. Then loud thuds travelled from his chest to his ears, almost like deafening cries. His body froze and his mind freezed. He honestly whispered back, “So do I.”
His body felt numb, he did not notice Wang Yi Bo’s body froze as well with his words.
“Z-Zhan-ge?” Yi Bo asked stunned. He had suddenly woken up, unsure of why Zhan was on his bed. Or why he was hugging him.
Ashamed of what he might have done and what he was doing, he unmindfully bolted right up, whilst Xiao Zhan was on top of him. The swift movement, made Zhan’s soft lips accidentally hit Yi Bo’s collar bone.
Zhan covered his mouth with his hand, his lips having the lingering taste of Yi Bo’s skin. They stared at each other wide eyed, blankly, speechless, and awkwardly.
“I-I’m sorry!” Yi Bo stutteringly said after a while.
Zhan’s heart trembled as he had the spectacle of seeing a pink tinge flourished from Yi Bo’s neck to the tip of his ears as he say those words. It made his cheeks flush with embarrassment as well.
“Ahhh…Nevermind.” He said shaking his arm. “It’s just an accident.”
He did not know why suddenly Yi Bo’s expression changed. Did he say anything wrong?
He shove the question aside, pulling the wheelie table in front of Yi Bo, arranging the breakfast he had prepared for him.
Yi Bo gazed at the delicious meal in front of him then back at Zhan, eyes questioning.
“It’s all for you.” Xiao Zhan smiled at him. “I’ll make sure you eat well from now on.”
He saw Yi Bo’s lips parting to object, but stopped and did not say anything. Instead, he obediently nodded and clumsily held the chopsticks on his uninjured left hand. Zhan felt this obedience was strange but let it slip.
He watched Yi Bo struggled with a left-hand attempt to eat. He can see his frustration as food falls from his grasp one after the other, until Yi Bo dropped his chopstick in defeat. “I hate this!”
Zhan sighed and glanced at his phone. It is almost 7 am and he needed to leave soon. Just then, Jian’s text message arrived.
‘Brother, I’ll be taking the bus from now on. Take your time with Brother Yi Bo. Make sure you take care of him well!’
He blushed for the second time today, and ran a palm to his face to cover the embarrassment. He can’t believe how naive yet vulgar his little brother is.
“Did something happen?” Yi Bo worriedly asked.
Zhan gently shook his head, and with a smile took Yi Bo’s chopsticks. “You have to eat. I’ll help you.”
