Third Person POV.

“Didn’t I tell you not to show up in my office, Marlene?” Alison questioned, the irritation in her

tóne evident as she watched Marlene walk into her space like she owned the place.

“And didn’t I respond that you can’t tell me what to do?” Marlene scoffed in response before taking a

seat opposite Alison.

The only reason she had come all the way here was because she wasn’t satisfied with how Alison had

been ignoring her calls in the last few days. She wanted to come and remind Alison who her boss was

since her dear friend seemed to be getting out of line.

Alison rolled her eyes tiredly, deciding that she would just find out why Marlene was here instead of

getting into an argument with her.

“What is it

I want from me, Marlene? I’m pretty sure you not here to see me as a therapist, and

if you are, I’d appreciate it if you learned to make appointments first before showing up out of the

blue,” she said.

Marlene scoffed.

“You’re unbelievable, Alison. Are you really trying to pretend like you don’t know why I’m here? Haver

t you been ignoring my calls for days because you’re afraid that I’d call you out on your

incompetence?” she hissed.

Alison sighed. “What more do you want from me, Marlene? I already did everything you asked of me, so

why do you keep calling me like we’re close friends who need to speak to each other every day? I

already told you that I’ve done my best, so I don’t get why you’ve refused to leave me alone!”

“What do you mean you’ve done your best, you idiot? If you’re so sure that you did exactly what you were paid for, then why is Amber still normal? Shouldn’t she be crazy by now? Didn’t I pay you to

drive her mad?” Marlene questioned.

“You paid me to switch her medication, Marlene, and that’s exactly what I did. Up until a few weeks ago, I was more than certain that she was still taking those drugs frequently, but now, I can’t keep

tabs on her since the stupid bitch decided she no longer needed friends and cut me off,” Alison fired

She had tried all she could to get back into Amber’s life, even going as far as calling her every day and leaving messages to seem like she cared about Amber’s well–being, but no matter what she did, Amber never responded, and she no longer had direct access to her since she had gotten married.

“I can’t believe you were actually stupid enough to get her to distrust you despite knowing that she needed to keep trusting you so she never finds out that you’ve been messing with her medications.

Alison let out a frustrated sigh, her annoyance evident in her voice as she addressed Marlene. She

wasn’t exactly surprised that Marlene was getting on her nerves, but she hated the fact that she was

being harassed like this.

“I didn’t do anything to break Amber’s trust,” she insisted, her eyes filled with exasperation. “She just suddenly lost her mind and started cutting everyone off, claiming she couldn’t trust anyone. It’s not my fault the girl is crazy.”

Marlene raised an eyebrow. She had been witness to the unraveling of Amber’s sanity, especially after her marriage to Kayden, but she couldn’t bring herself to trust Alison’s words entirely. “Are you

sure you’re not leaving something out?” Marlene countered, “Amber wouldn’t just cut you off without

reason. You must have done something or said something to make her want to cut you off permanenth

Alison’s frustration deepened, and she furiously scoffed at Marlene’s skepticism. “I’ve done nothing

but be there for her like I was supposed to,” she retorted. “I’ve tried everything I possibly can to

help her and show her that I can be trusted, just so she just stops being doubtful. But she refuses

to believe anyone. She thinks the entire world is after her, and I can’t seem to control her

anymore.”

Marlene crossed her arms, her expression hardening. She wasn’t convinced by Alison’s words, sensing some hidden agenda lurking beneath her seemingly innocent facade. “So, what now? What are you planning to do?” Marlene asked.

Alison let out a sigh, her annoyance morphing into resignation. “I’m not going to do anything.” she

admitted, her voice tinged with defeat. “I’ve done my part by fulfilling my end of the bargain. I

switched out Amber’s antidepressants with a different medication, one that will slowly mess with her

mind. And I’d love to make sure she’s slowly driving herself mad, but until she decides to reach out

to me, there’s nothing more I can do to confirm.”

Marlene’s eyes widened in shock at Alison’s revelation. “Are you insane? You can’t just stop talking

to her!”

Alison rolled her eyes, a flicker of annoyance crossing her face. “What other choice do I have?” she snapped. “I’ve tried everything else, and Amber is still out of reach. I don’t intend on going

overboard because I have no interest in trying to prove anything to that girl. You already know I can’t stand her, and being around her is a lot of work.”

Marlene’s brows furrowed as she contemplated Alison’s words. “Fine,” Marlene relented reluctantly. “But there’s still one thing you need to do before you’re allowed to walk away from her.”

Alison’s annoyance resurfaced, a scowl forming on her face. “What else could possibly be left to do? I already said I’m taking my hands off her and minding my business, so what else do you want from.

me?”

Marlene took a deep breath; her eyes locked with Alison’s. “Well, Alison dear, you need to find a way to get back into Amber’s life,” she stated. “You’re the only one I know who can get close enough to her, and I need you to go back to being friends with her, even if you have to beg. If there’s one

person who can slowly poison her, it’s you. Amber has to die, Alison and you’re going to help me get

rid of her.”
