Chapter 447
Even in the past, when Celeste argued with Liam, she was still polite to them. The fierce and aggressive attitude she showed just
now was unprecedented.
He had a gut feeling that something was going to happen.
Mason said, “No matter what, he can’t just disappear like this. Celeste has already made up her mind, and us speaking up for
Liam will only
backfire.”
Nicolas sighed, “You’re right. I hope that guy comes back soon; otherwise, no one can help him.”
Shawn finally learned of her death the night before Caitlyn’s funeral.
He and Caitlyn were college classmates, and many of their old classmates were mutual friends.
Their old classmates saw the death notice Celeste posted on Facebook, which they quickly shared and began talking about it in
their group chat.
“Shawn, why didn’t you tell us about Caitlyn’s death first? It’s such a big deal, and we only found out through other friends. You
really don’t treat us
like friends.”
A female classmate spoke up for Caitlyn, “It’s probably for the best that Caitlyn’s gone. She couldn’t have taken much more of
this injustice in her
life.”
“You were married, after all. You’re really rushing this funeral. She just passed away, and you’re already eager to cremate her.
And you chose such a small funeral home?”
Shawn’s illegitimate daughter had been causing quite a stir online recently, and their old classmates had naturally heard about it.
Although these classmates were friends with both Shawn and Caitlyn, Caitlyn had a better relationship with them. She was good
at socializing and valued friendships. While she might not have been the best wife and mother, she was very loyal to her friends.
As long as her friends asked for help, she would do whatever she could.
She was indeed ruthless in her business dealings and sometimes calculating, but she also helped many of her classmates in
times of need.
So when news of her death came out, her friends were all grieving and mourning, and their conversations were inevitably tinged
with some dissatisfaction and mockery toward Shawn.
Caitlyn had been a popular beauty in college, with a well–off family and promising prospects. Many male students pursued her
back then, but she ended up with Shawn, who at best was just average.
She spent her whole life helping Shawn with his career, only to be treated like this in the end. It was truly a waste.
Shawn was furious when he looked at the messages in the group chat.
He was not only angry at being attacked by his former classmates but also at Celeste for not informing him of Caitlyn’s death.
The more he thought about it, the more he believed Celeste had done it on purpose to make him the target of ridicule from his
former classmates.
He tried to call Celeste, but the call didn’t go through. It seemed that Celeste had blocked him, and this made Shawn feel even
worse.
But thinking about Caitlyn being gone, he couldn’t help but feel upset.
When Helen came in with tea, she saw Shawn sulking with a tense face.
“Shawn, what’s wrong?”
It took Shawn a while to say, “She’s dead.”
Helen was taken aback, and then a subtle smile appeared on her face. She lowered her head and said, “After all these years,
she’s suffered enough. Dying is easier than living.”
Shawn didn’t say anything for a while, then said, “Celeste sent out the obituary, there’s a memorial service tomorrow. Should I
go?”
