Chapter 493
“It wasn’t for her,” Steven said gently, “just happened to give Ms Campbell a ride on my way back, and she got me a portion of
grilled meat when she bought some.”
Hiram asked, “Does Ms Campbell like pork knuckle rice?”
“Seems like it.”
Hiram smiled and whispered, “Your mom also liked grilled meat. Our family and Ms Campbell are quite destined”
Steven smiled faintly, “Yes, quite destined. I’m sure you’ll like her when you meet her tomorrow,”
Clair “Who do you like, Steven?”
As they spoke, Clair came downstairs.
She wore a beige cotton dress with a high ponytail and slippers.
Clair had been frail since childhood, and her development was later than her peers. But with the care of her family, she now
appeared quite
normal.
She was thin and had a pretty bare face.
Steven stood up, “How’s the painting going?”
“Not done yet, but I heard you talking to Dad and wanted to come down and see.”
As she spoke, she glanced at the food on the table, excitedly asking. “What delicious food did you bring this time?”
Before Steven could answer, she opened the takeout box, saw the grilled meat, and frowned.
“Steven, don’t you know I don’t like grilled meat?”
Hiram was about to explain that it was from Celeste, but Steven jumped in, “This is for Dad. If you want something else, I’ll ask
the maid to make it for you later.”
Hiram didnt say anything.
Upon hearing it was for Hiram, Clair said, “Dad, you have high blood pressure. The doctor said you should eat less greasy food”
Hiram laughed, “Grilled meat doesn’t count as greasy, and it’s just this once. It won’t hurt.”
Clair continued, “Then you better gobble it. If Mom finds out, we won’t be able to help you.”
She didn’t mind grilled meat, but her Mom disliked it a lot. She wouldn’t eat it herself and didn’t let them eat it either,
“I know.”
The next day, after finishing her work on set, Celeste went home, changed her clothes, and met Hiram.
She searched her wardrobe for a while before choosing a light blue, modified version of a formal dress.
When dining with elders, paying attention to one’s appearance was best.
She put on some light makeup, and Steven called as she was changing her shoes.
“Ms Campbell, are you ready?”
Celeste was stunned. How did he know she was getting ready at home?
Steven immediately explained, “I just called Mr Miller, and he said you went home. When you’re ready, come downstairs. I’m
waiting for you outside your apartment complex.”
Before Celeste could say no, Steven hung up the phone
This boss was too enthusiastic.
Celeste put on her shoes, grabbed her bag, and went out.
As expected, Steven was waiting outside, driving the same Maybach he had used to take her home yesterday.
He wore sunglasses, stood beside the car with both hands in his pockets, one foot propped against the tire, and gazed around
expressionlessly
Seeing him, she smiled slightly. He pulled out his hand, stood up, and helped her open the passenger door.
Celeste said thanks and got in the car.
After the car started, Celeste said, “Mr Garcia, you didn’t have to pick me up. I have my car.”
“I was passing by anyway, and gas is expensive these days. You didn’t get anything from the divorce, right? So, it’s better to
save a bit when you
can.”
He made a good point, and she couldn’t argue with that.
Steven’s enthusiasm made Celeste wonder if he was actually trying to pursue her, but he never made any wrong moves, and
their conversation mostly revolved around her childhood.
He seemed really into this.
Celeste signed his contract, so she had to chat with him, making small talk here and there along the way.
Steven got out of the car and helped her open the door when they got to the restaurant..
As soon as Liam got out of the car, he saw Steven holding Celeste’s hand, leading her out
