Nicolas’s reply gave him some ideas.
He looked at the message “Have you eaten?“, pondered for a moment, and transferred 520 bucks to Celeste.
He replied, saying he had an important project today and was in meetings all day with no time for food.
After thinking for a bit, he added that he hadn’t eaten much all day.
Celeste found this amusing and a bit pathetic.
He was actually playing the sympathy card now
She pretended not to understand and replied, “It must be tough working for a boss like you, not having dinner, and working
overtime late into the night.”
Liam replied that everyone else had left and that he was in a video conference
Celeste asked him, “Are you still at work?”
Liam replied. “Yeah”
Celeste checked the time. It was nearly ten o’clock.
Was this dude planning on living at the office?
Liam quickly sent another message, asking if the food was tasty.
Celeste replied. “It’s alright, do you want some?”
Liam immediately replied, “Yes”
Celeste replied, “Then you can look forward to it”

She chuckled, and there happened to be a waiter passing by. She stopped him, ordered a few dishes, and then said, “Please
pack these up and send them to Quantum Enterprises Tell them it’s for their CEO. I’ll pay later.”
The waiter nodded and left
Celeste looked back at her phone. Liam had sent another message. Sean’s admission result was out. He got into the computer
science program at C University
That little brat had actually told Liam first
Just as Celeste was about to reply, she heard Mason’s voice from behind. “I thought you were drunk”
Celeste turned around and laughed, saying. I’m surrounded by big shots here. I can’t drink when they toast. So, I had to pretend
to be drunk.” She paused and asked, “Why are
you out here?”
Mason replied softly “Mr. Javier noticed you’ve been gone for a while and was worried something might have happened. So, he
sent me to check on you.”
Celeste said, ‘I’m fine. I just want to go home”
Mason said, ‘Tll go back and let Mr Javier know You can leave first.”
“Will that be alright? Celeste was a bit doubtful
This was a gathering of big shots, not a party among friends she knew. She couldn’t just leave without saying goodbye.
She figured once she went back in, she’d get tied down and wouldn’t be able to leave.
All the people there were important figures in their circles. She couldn’t afford to offend any of them as a newbie actress.
Mason laughed, “Why are you suddenly not understanding when you should be smart?”
“Huh?”
“Go back in and continue pretending to be drunk. Pretend you’re too drunk to even walk. Who would want to keep you, then?
Celeste thought it over. That was a pretty good idea.

So she happily said. “Then you have to help me act convincingly later, make it more believable.”
As they were talking someone walked out of the private mom next to them
Celeste was a bit surprised to see that person.
Claire was equally surprised to see Celeste but only nodded politely before heading to the restroom.
Celeste wanted to greet her, but seeing Claire’s reaction, she decided not to.
She didn’t expect Claire to remember her lifesaving favor, but Claire’s coldness made her feel a bit uncomfortable.
“Let’s go,” Mason said. “Get ready to show Mr. Javier your acting skills.”
Celeste happily said, “Mr. Javier must be drunk by now. We could probably pull it off”
As they walked, they discussed how to perform later and soon faded into the distance.
When Claire came out of the restroom, Kaylee was looking worriedly at her phone.
She and Liam had somehow switched seats, and now Kaylee was sitting next to her
Claire sat down and asked, “What’s going on?”
Kaylee grimaced “Mason hasn’t replied to me. He asked me earlier what I was doing tonight. I don’t know if he’s at the law firm
now, but I’m thinking of going there when I
return‘
Claire paused “I just saw him.”
