Chapter 721
If it were in the past, he would’ve automatically rebutted Celeste’s words.
He and Kaylee had a deep bond as siblings.
He and his father had eagerly anticipated her arrival in their lives. As a child, Kaylee was very dependent on him. If she had any
tasty treats or fun toys, she wouldn’t share them with others but would save them for her big brother.
After their father’s death, he was raised by their grandma. After an incident where he nearly drowned, grandma took care of him
most of the time. Grandma didn’t trust Skyler with Liam and looked down on her judgment. Skyler only cared about the Barlow
family, and grandma always feared she would lead the Reed family’s offspring astray. Therefore, despite her age, grandma
insisted on educating him personally.
As for Kaylee, she was too young to be without her mom. Considering Skyler’s firm stance back then, grandma reluctantly let
Skyler raise Kaylee. After their father’s death, the siblings mostly saw each other on weekends and holidays.
As the days turned into years, Kaylee grew up but lost the innocence she had as a child.
During the years he was married to Letti, Kaylee was decent towards Celeste in his presence. But what about when he wasn’t
around?
Celeste never badmouthed Kaylee or Skyler in front of him. But did silence mean there were no issues?
Or maybe he was naturally biased towards Kaylee and saw her disrespectful words as mere acts of petulance?
Once he started reminiscing about the past, certain things began to make sense.
For instance, Kaylee knowingly took the cake he had bought for Letti’s birthday to a party, then told Letti he had allowed her to do
so.
Or when he was away on business, the essential oils he bought for Letti were spilled by Kaylee because she didn’t see her own
gift.
Letti claimed Kaylee did it on purpose, but he thought it was just a bottle of essential oil – no big deal.
The incident with the essential oil may not have been a big deal, but these small incidents slowly revealed Kaylee’s malice and
his tendency to turn a blind eye.
Kaylee would act spoilt and willful in front of familiar and important people like him and Mason, but she would reveal her nasty
nature to strangers. She was spoiled rotten by Skyler. Just like Letti said, she had no morals and acted according to her whims.
In her eyes, wrongdoing and hurtful actions could all be solved with money and the power of the Reed family.
Her values had been skewed by Skyler. If she didn’t face some hardship, she would truly believe that the Reed family could
solve all her problems.
“You’re right. Maybe I never really understood her.” Liam pursed his lips and suddenly asked, “Did she treat you particularly badly
when I wasn’t aware?” Taken aback, Celeste closed her mouth, and after a long silence, she finally said, “Liam, there’s
something I’ve been afraid to tell you since we got married
Liam looked at her, a sense of unease creeping into his heart. “What is it?”
