Chapter 93
Maja was still standing in the corridor, feeling p chill from what the doctor had said It wasn’t until her phone rang that she
snapped out of it.
Her fingers were stiff, so she rubbed her hands to warm them up before answering the call
The time displayed on her phone screen showed that she had missed picking up Holden She quickly apologized “Grandpa, I’m
sorry, my father was in a hospital. I’m with him right now, so I missed picking you up
Upon hearing the reason, Holden immediately comforted her
“Maja, why is your dad in the hospital? Is he doing better now? Don’t worry about it, you don’t have to come over for dinner
tonight, just stay with him.”
Maja’s eyes welled up Her father had been diagnosed with late–stage liver cancer, she didn’t know who to tell. She couldn’t tell
the Raymond family, even though Holden was nice to her. She didn’t want others to know, afraid they might think she’s trying to
gain sympathy.
“He’s just feeling a bit unwell. He’s not awake yet. Grandpa, I’ll get you a gift as an apology next time.”
Holden chuckled. “Quit being so formal with me, I’ve got a gift for you too. I’ll let lan give it to you.”
Maja’s eyes welled up again, she looked up at the ceiling, “Okay, thank you grandpa.”
Being called grandpa‘ by Maja made Holden even happier. After Hanging up, he took out a box from the side and handed it to
lan.
This is for Maja, don’t forget to give it to her. Also, his father Neil’s in the hospital. He’s neither okay to Maja, so if you have time,
bring some gifts and visit him. Since you are his son–in–law, you should act like one.”
Holden truly cared for Maja, and was also nice to the rest of the Pennyfeather family. He had looked into Maja’s life over the
years. She was independent, didn’t complain when wronged, went to high school on her own, and had a bad college professor.
Holden wanted to call the school several times, but was stopped by Maja. She said she would clear her name when the
opportunity arose.
And she did. Solstice College recently got a new principal, and that professor was dismissed.
Holden scoffed at the thought of Dalia being part of the Shepard family. “The Shepards, always playing little tricks.”
Upon hearing the mention of the Shepard family, lan frowned. “Grandpa, what does this have to do with the Shepards.”
Seeing him defend the Shepards, Holden scoffed. “Isn’t Dalia one of Carlene Shepard’s kin? Look at what she’s done in school!
With she behaving like that, I do not hold much expectation for the Shepard family.”
lan’s lips twitched. He glanced at the files in his hand and replied, “You can’t dismiss their whole family just because of one
person’s actions. It’s a different time now, and let’s not resort to the outdated judgments.”
Helden was upset, gripping his cane tightly.
Carlene was no saint either, and he wouldn’t ever allow her to marry into the Raymond family. His daughter–in–law could only be
Maja. Anyone who dared to sabotage would be his enemy “Remember to visit Neil this week, you should show some concern.”
lan sounded indifferent, “Got it.” He would just have Jeff bring some stuff over.
Holden actually thought lan was being obedient, so he nodded in satisfaction.
Meanwhile, in the hospital, Neil had woken up, still in pain.
Seeing Cristina by his bedside, he frowned, “How did I end up here?”
Cristina didn’t know what Neil was suffering from. He had been complaining about body aches for years, but a painkiller always
did the trick, so she didn’t think much of it.
“You fainted at Rosewood Manor.”
“Where’s Maja?”
Whenever Maja was mentioned, Cristina’s expression immediately turned sour. The nurse sent her to the canteen to get some
food. The hospital has prepared a nutritious meal for the patients, if you miss this mealtime, there won’t be another. If you don’t
like it, I’ll have our chef prepare something and send it over.”
Neil coughed twice, sighing, “Cristina, do you think Maja will hate me for sending her to the Raymond family?”
