Chapter 1440
James' strength was no longer a secret. However, someone still sent him a letter of challenge.
There were only two possible explanations for this.
One was that his opponent was extremely powerful and had the confidence to defeat him.
The second possibility was that this was all part of a ruse.
According to James' assumption, it was the second.
He had a very strong feeling that something bad was going to happen in the Capital.
The other person was trying to draw him to Mt. Thunder Pass in the Southern Plains, a great distance away.
Despite knowing this, he had no choice but to go since he did not dare to take a gamble.
'Thea, I'm going to talk to Maxine about it."
James was at a bit of a loss. Since he was in the thick of it, he could not assess the situation clearly.
He needed to talk it over with someone else who was not involved.
"Okay."
Thea did not get jealous either.
James stood up and left quickly without staying any longer.
After he left, the smile on Thea's face faded and was replaced by a solemn expression.
She picked up the letter of challenge on the table and stared at it for a while before pulling out her phone and calling a number.
"Use all the Celestial Sect's resources to find out who sent the letter to
James."
"Understood."
A voice could be heard over the phone.
Thea then ended the call.
James had left Thea's house and was making his way to the Cadens' Mansion. He called Maxine as he was not sure if she was
at the Cadens’ Mansion.
If she was not there, he would be making a pointless trip.
"Maxine, are you home?"
"Yes, I am."
"I'm on my way to you right now."
"Sure."
After the brief conversation, James hung up and sat back in the backseat, then closed his eyes and rested.
He arrived at the Cadens' Mansion shortly.
At the courtyard of the Cadens' mansion...
In a side room...
Maxine was working late last night. She had intended to take a nap in the afternoon.
She did not sleep, though, because James had called.
At the moment, she was standing to the side with her hands crossed, dressed in a pair of somewhat thin pajamas.
She looked at James, who was sitting and smoking dejectedly, and could not help but remind him," Smoke less."
Maxine was very attractive. She had become increasingly charming, especially after she assumed the role of the family head.
James, however, was not in the mood to appreciate the beauty before him.
"Who do you think it was that sent me the letter, Maxine?"
Maxine pondered for a while and said, "According to what you've said before, the leader of the Valhalla Sect took Quincy, so if
they have Quincy, they would be the person who sent you the letter, but..."
She paused after saying that.
'Whether this Rodent person is working alone or with someone else is currently unknown. Nevertheless, I do think he might have
teamed up with someone.”
'Then who do you think this person is?" inquired James.
Maxine shook her head slightly and said, deliberating, "It's hard to tell. It might be Mr. Lance, but it could also be Lucjan.
Perhaps there are other forces in the shadows as well. Don't dwell on it too much, James. Different situations call for different
actions, and you’re not alone."
Maxine sat beside James and could not help but take his hands in hers.
James tensed up slightly and cast a glance at Maxine.
He saw the flawless face in front of him, as well as her slightly fluttering lashes.
It took him a few moments to react and, with a slight struggle, pull away from Maxine's hands.
Maxine smiled.
James' actions were exactly what she had expected.
He took a deep breath and said, "Given the current state of the Capital, I believe something is about to happen here.
I'm planning on going to the fight at Mt. Thunder Pass in the Southern Plains, but I'm worried about the Capital."
