Chapter 703
“Ouch!” A cry of pain instinctively escaped from her lips.
She hadn’t noticed before, but her ear was really swollen.
It was a mark from Lysander’s bite. He’d bitten down hard.
She’d never bitten him that intensely before.
Thalassa looked up and saw the worried eyes of the four little ones staring at her, waiting for her response.
Feeling a bit uncomfortable, Thalassa dodged their gaze. “Yeah, a bee stung me, so you guys need to be careful not to provoke
bees.” She anxiously explained.
“Wow, real bees? That’s scary.” Elowen’s mouth formed a surprised ‘o’ shape. Her chubby hands covered her mouth, making her
look adorably shocked. The other three looked at each other, clearly surprised as well.
Fitch, standing by the table, immediately became anxious. “The flowers in the garden are blooming, so their scent could attract
bees. I’ll step up the prevention and make sure no bees get into the house. I won’t let the kids get hurt.” He chimed in.
“Yeah, that’d be good.” Thalassa nodded as her eyes instinctively shifted to Lysander. His dangerous, oppressive gaze met hers,
and his face looked as gloomy as a stormy sky.
Thalassa paused, quickly looked away, and continued to eat her dinner.
It wasn’t her problem. They were talking about bees, not him.
If he insisted on identifying with the bee, there was nothing she could do.
Time passed quickly. In an instant, two weeks had gone by.
Thalassa’s foot had almost fully recovered, thanks to proper rest and care.
Apart from a slight limp when walking, everything else was normal. She could wear shoes and walk without assistance.
Thalassa had been at Royal Estates for two weeks straight.
Today, she received a call from Evelyn.
“When are you coming back? Are you going to abandon me?” Evelyn complained.
“The kids are at school, and I’ll be back today.” Thalassa reassured Evelyn.
After hanging up, she had the chauffeur drive her to Vibrant Oasis Residences. The driver, perhaps with Lysander’s permission,
agreed to take her.
As soon as Thalassa returned home, she saw Evelyn and Hertha sitting at the dining table, eating and chatting.
The two were engaged in a lively conversation. They looked more like a mother and daughter than she and Evelyn ever did.
Thalassa, you’re finally back. Sit down and eat.” Hertha stood up quickly to help Thalassa sit beside her.
Evelyn glanced at Thalassa’s foot, and a hint of reproach appeared in her voice. “Thank God, it’s just your foot. If you’d fallen to
the bottom of the mountain, you’d be dead! How could you and Bruce go up the mountain alone? If he had murderous intentions,
would you still be alive?”
Thalassa had called Evelyn while she was recuperating at Royal Estates, telling her about the injury and how she’d gotten back
the money, along with the surplus.
To be scolded by her mother was a blissful feeling for Thalassa.
This was Evelyn’s usual demeanor. She had a sharp tongue but a soft heart.
She always nagged and seemed harsh, but she loved Thalassa deeply.
“Don’t worry; I had a backup plan.” Thalassa reassured her.
Knowing Bruce’s greed, she had used the promise of Lysander’s vast wealth as bait to lure him up the mountain.
“But if Lysander hadn’t happened to be there, would you have had a backup plan? Don’t gamble with your life!” Evelyn was still
scared. After all, Thalassa was her only daughter.
Thalassa was taken aback. Evelyn and Lysander were quite similar. Lysander had told her not to risk her safety as well.
Evelyn had said it because she loved and cared for Thalassa.
But why had Lysander said the same thing to her?
