Chapter 1342
Here again, came another uninvited guest talking about Thalassa’s mother, the
most grievous topic that she was trying her best to avoid.
Each mention of Evelyn felt like a new step trampling over Thalassa’s already
bruised soul, as if there was a dagger wedged in her heart. And with each
visitor's words, it was pushed deeper, twisting the pain into something almost
unbearable. And then, as if on cue, another would arrive to press down on the hilt
of the blade, slicing through the tender flesh of her heart, threatening to split it in
two.
Thalassa choked on the agony, unable to bear it any longer. In a fit of rage, she
leapt to her feet, her eyes blazing with fury as she glared at Susan. “Get out! Just
get the hell out of my house and stop talking about your damn father!” she spat.
Her hands were shaking with anger as she advanced on Susan, intent on
shoving her out the door. The very mention of Bruce was like poison to her-
Bruce, that despicable, filthy man who thankfully was on death row, a small
mercy that seemed like divine justice.
But death was too good for him. He should suffer the most gruesome of fates,
drawn and quartered, begging for a death that would not come!
Susan staggered back, taken aback by Thalassa’s outburst. In Susan’s eyes, she
had always been the city girl, the one with the world at her fingertips, while
Thalassa was just some backwoods nobody, reeking of poverty. Susan felt above
her, and the mere contact made her skin crawl.
With a haughty flick of her wrist, Susan dodged Thalassa’s touch. “Don’t you dare
lay a finger on me! I came here out of pity, Thalassa, to do you the courtesy of
telling you the truth about how your mother died!”
“My mom died in a car crash, what “truth’ is there to tell?” Thalassa retorted, her
rage palpable as her fiery gaze bore into Susan.
“Oh, really? Did you even hear the official determination of the crash? Evelyn
drove straight into that truck. It was ruled a suicide. Evelyn's at fault herself. Even
in death, the driver bears no blame,” Susan snapped coldly.
Thalassa’s heart skipped a beat, her eyes widening in shock. “What did you
say?”
A chill crept over her, a sense of foreboding settling in.
Astrid stood up, her voice firm. “Young lady, you'd better watch what you're
saying!”
Everyone in town knew that Evelyn had died in a car accident-nothing more,
nothing less. Suicide? It was unthinkable.
Susan pulled out her smartphone, scrolling to the page with the official police
report, and shoved it in Thalassa’s face. “See for yourself.”
Despite her reluctance to believe anything Susan said, Thalassa couldn't help
but look.
