"Melody said that she won't go anywhere until I return. Why are you alone here? Where is she?" Lucas asked worriedly.
Thalia frowned, and her subsequent sentence was laced with discontent toward Melody. "I'm not sure. She seemed a little restless ever since I arrived here, and she seemed a little irritated when she was massaging Grandma. Since you weren't around and I had nothing to talk to her with anyway, I turned to leave after putting down the fruit basket."
Following a brief pause, she continued, "But she insisted that I stay for a while because she needed to go to the bathroom. I haven't seen her since I'm not trying to be negative here, but she shouldn't be tasked with taking care of Grandma if she's too busy. Hiring a nurse would be so much easier on you both, and she wouldn't have to go through the suffering of staying here. Grandma is the one who will suffer from improper care."
Lucas did not know why Melody was not around, but he knew that she would never treat Beatrice that way. "Melody won't treat Grandma that way. Grandma dotes on her all the time, and she's more devastated than I am after what happened to Grandma. I let her take care of Grandma because she took the initiative to ask me about it."
Thalia's brow remained in a tight furrow. "It's not my place to say anything if you vouch for her. Perhaps I simply misunderstood. That being said, I still think you should give my idea some thought. Both you and Melody are swamped with work, and Grandma is still unconscious. It might be wise to hire a nurse, especially since it's becoming a struggle for both of you to even take care of yourselves. You're doing Grandma a favor by ensuring your own health."
Thalia's concerns were valid, and Lucas did not refute them. Even so, he could not shake the worry gnawing at him. If Melody had gone to sleep, she would at least have informed him about it. With Thalia achieving what she had wanted to achieve, she got up and prepared to leave.
"Did Melody mention where she went before she left?" he grabbed her shoulder and stopped her from leaving. "She couldn't have just left without informing me, especially not when she's gone for so long." Thalia smiled reassuringly. "We've been friends for years, Lucas, and I understand your concern for Melody. All she said was that she needed to use the bathroom. I've been waiting for her here ever since, and she never came back after that. If you're worried, you could check the surveillance footage to see if she left after visiting the restroom."
Lucas nodded and released her. "Okay. I won't keep you any longer, then. It's been a long afternoon for you, so hurry up and leave." "Thanks." Thalia grabbed her bags and left buoyantly. As soon as she turned around, Lucas' expression sank.
"Review the fifth-floor surveillance footage. I want it done quickly," he instructed his aide as his mind raced with concern. He could already tell that something had gone awry, as Thalia had somehow suggested for him to check the surveillance before he even had a chance to dial Melody's number.
Nothing seemed to make sense at that moment.
