Justin took Ralph's word for it and felt bad. "I'm a bad brother.
"I didn't carry out my duties as a brother, growing up. I was blind to her suffering at home. It took me years to realize what was
going on, and Bella had to tell me about it. I'm the worst." "Don't be hard on yourself. You're a great brother, and I can prove it."
Bella sank into Justin's arms and kissed him on the neck. "Don't forget that Carrie wouldn't have a boyfriend who loves her
dearly if it wasn't for you. That's enough to score you brownie points for a lifetime." Justin felt better, and the love showed in his
eyes. He put his arm around her waist and pulled her in for a peck.
A hint of dejection slipped past Ralph's expression as he opened the car door and said, "I'll send you the file later. You are free to
handle the case as you see fit, so long as you don't break the law."
Worried about Carrie, Justin and Bella said goodbye to Ralph and headed to Ryan's residence.
However, they did not get to see Carrie, as Ryan did not let the couple in.
"Don't worry, Justin, Bella. Carrie is fine. She had a scare. Yasmin has already put her to bed." Ryan's eyes were glazed and red-
rimmed.
Apart from Carrie's well-being, Ryan did not seem all right.
He must have gotten quite a scare too.
Justin was going to insist on checking on Carrie, but Bella grabbed his arm and gave him a look.
Taking the hint, Justin said, "Is Carrie really alright?"
"She's fine."
That made sense.
"Let Carrie get some rest. She'll herself together in two days. We can visit belongs to r then."
Bella held Justin's arm and excused herself.
"Bella." Ryan stopped her.
"What's the matter?"
Ryan pressed his dry, discolored lips together. After much hesitation, he decided against talking about Ralph. "How is Chairman
Thompson? Is he better?"
"He's doing a lot better. Thank you for asking, Mr. Hoffman."
Bella curled her lips and walked away, snuggled in Justin's arms.
Ryan stared at their backs, struggling in a whirlwind of emotions and self-doubt.
He was envious of Justin's and Bella's undying love for each other.
Ryan loved Carrie deeply, and Carrie loved him too.
However, Ryan wondered if Carrie's love was genuine or merely a response to his affection.
What if Ralph was the first to enter her life instead?
As veins popped out of his hand on the door frame, Ryan dared not go down that rabbit hole.
