Fifth Master Han opened Gu Changqing's bamboo tube and found that its contents were similar to his own. The only difference was that Gu Changqing’s mission was to raid Biyue Spring and proceed to the first beacon camp.
Maintaining a calm expression, Gu Changqing said, "I suspect this selection trial is a race to see who can deliver the secret letter to the designated camp first. Since Taoist Qingfeng’s horse can’t outrun yours, he likely attacked your side to steal your secret letter and prevent you from completing your mission."
Fifth Master Han frowned, "Are you saying Taoist Qingfeng was the one who raided this camp?"
Gu Changqing lied without hesitation, "Yes. When I arrived, I saw him leaving with a letter in his hand."
"Which way did he go?" Fifth Master Han asked grimly.
Gu Changqing pointed to the east. "That way. Fifth Master, I’ll go with you!"
Gu Jiao rubbed her chin thoughtfully.
That went surprisingly smoothly.
It wasn’t that Fifth Master Han was foolish, but rather that he lacked the omniscient perspective of an outside observer. Unaware of the hidden mission and seeing that Gu Changqing had even handed over his own bamboo tube, he had no reason to doubt him.
......
"Zicao Pond should be around here somewhere, but why can’t I find it?"
Taoist Qingfeng circled the same spot with his compass five times. On the sixth lap, Fifth Master Han appeared, exuding murderous intent.
The Black Demon Horse reared up, its imposing presence like that of a ferocious beast, lunging at Taoist Qingfeng’s white horse as if to tear it apart!
Taoist Qingfeng leapt into the air, shielding his horse and striking a palm down toward the Black Demon Horse’s head!
But how could Fifth Master Han let him succeed?
Fifth Master Han unleashed a powerful palm strike in mid-air, clashing directly with Taoist Qingfeng’s palm attack.
The collision of their immense internal forces sent shockwaves through the surroundings. If not for Fifth Master Han riding the Black Demon Horse, he might have already suffered internal injuries from the aftermath of the clash.
He couldn’t afford to overexert the Black Demon Horse too soon; after all, he would need it for the three-hundred-mile sprint ahead.
Fifth Master Han dismounted.
His silver hair shimmered like moonlight, and his cold, piercing eyes exuded an intimidating aura. "Hand over the secret letter! Otherwise, I’ll make sure you don’t leave here alive!"
Taoist Qingfeng, being the spy, possessed the true secret letter. Misunderstanding Fifth Master Han’s intentions, he assumed the latter was after his own secret letter.
He replied, "If you’ve got the skills, come and take it."
To Fifth Master Han’s ears, this sounded like an admission that Taoist Qingfeng had stolen the secret letter from the enemy camp at Huangshu Slope.
Without hesitation, Fifth Master Han launched a deadly attack at Taoist Qingfeng.
Neither of them used weapons, but their barehanded combat turned the forest into a battlefield shrouded in smoke and chaos.
Gu Jiao and Gu Changqing arrived in pursuit.
The two remained on horseback, watching from a distance as Taoist Qingfeng and Fifth Master Han fought fiercely.
The battle was so intense that it was impossible to determine the victor. Birds scattered from the forest in panic, flapping their wings frantically, while wild beasts growled in fear and fled in all directions.
"Is Han Ci’s martial prowess really this formidable?" Gu Jiao remarked, astonished that he was nearly evenly matched with Taoist Qingfeng.
Gu Changqing said, "I’ll go help."
Gu Jiao nodded. "Alright."
Gu Changqing urged his horse forward, stopping it near where the two were fighting, making sure to keep the innocent horse away from the influence of the internal forces.
"Fifth Master, I’m here to assist you!" Gu Changqing drew his longsword and joined the fray.
Taoist Qingfeng’s aura suddenly surged!
Gu Changqing frowned slightly. What astonishing internal force!
Taoist Qingfeng leapt into the air, the energy around him swirling and converging, forming what seemed like a massive, invisible Eight Trigrams diagram behind him.
"Into the formation!"
He struck down with a palm, dropping to one knee, and the force of his palm slammed into the ground.
In an instant, dust and rocks flew everywhere, and leaves scattered like a storm.
Though he had appeared to be on the defensive earlier, Taoist Qingfeng had actually maintained complete control of the fight. Both Gu Changqing and Fifth Master Han had unwittingly fallen into his formation.
Gu Changqing stood in the east, occupying the position of Li, while Fifth Master Han was in the west, at the position of Kan.
Within his formation, Taoist Qingfeng reigned supreme!
He shouted, "Li, Kan, break!"
A torrent of internal force imbued with the endless essence of the Dao surged forward like countless invisible blades, carrying the might of mountains and rivers as they attacked Gu Changqing and Fifth Master Han.
Both of them were sent flying!
Gu Jiao furrowed her brow, then spurred her horse forward. With a light step, she leapt off and landed directly in front of Taoist Qingfeng. "I can’t stand seeing you Han Family members bully others! Two against one—what kind of martial artists are you? Taoist, let me help you!"
Taoist Qingfeng’s last move had drained a significant amount of his internal force, and he did need some time to recover.
Gu Jiao had no intention of taking advantage of his weakened state. After all, if he recovered and came after her, she would be in big trouble.
Thus, strategy was the only option.
Fifth Master Han, having been knocked to the ground, quickly got back on his feet.
Hmm, he can take a beating better than Han Ye.
Just as Fifth Master Han was about to attack Gu Jiao, Gu Changqing, clutching his chest, also stood up. "Fifth Master, there’s no need for you to dirty your hands with this brat. I’ll deal with him!"
The siblings engaged in an apparently "intense" fight on the battlefield.
Though their strikes seemed fierce, they barely used any real force.
Facing away from Taoist Qingfeng, Gu Jiao clasped her hands together, catching Gu Changqing’s longsword between them.
Gu Changqing gave her a meaningful look.
Gu Jiao nodded slightly.
"Die!"
Gu Changqing struck Gu Jiao's shoulder with a powerful palm attack, sending her flying through the air toward Taoist Qingfeng.
Taoist Qingfeng leapt up gracefully, catching Gu Jiao mid-air by her slender waist.
Gu Jiao’s fingers moved slightly, slipping the small bamboo tube from Taoist Qingfeng’s waist into her sleeve while simultaneously hooking Mu Qingchen’s bamboo tube onto his belt.
This subtle exchange ensured that the weight remained unchanged, delaying the moment Taoist Qingfeng would realize something was amiss.
Taoist Qingfeng and Fifth Master Han resumed their fierce battle, while Gu Jiao and Gu Changqing gradually fought their way farther and farther from the scene.
"Xiao Liulang, don’t think you can escape! I’ll kill you today if it’s the last thing I do!"
The siblings galloped away on horseback at full speed. Only when the sounds of Taoist Qingfeng and Fifth Master Han’s fight had completely faded did they finally heave a sigh of relief and come to a stop.
"How did it go?" Gu Changqing asked.
Gu Jiao pulled out Taoist Qingfeng’s bamboo tube, extracted the secret letter, and glanced at it. A smile curved her lips, "Got it!"
Gu Changqing looked at his little sister’s smile, and a trace of amusement flickered in his own eyes. "Counting yours, we now have two real secret letters in hand."
The final true secret letter was still with Jun Xiuhan.

Description:
In the suspenseful supernatural novel “Records of Mortals,” Jiang Baiyan, once a solitary and impoverished youth, finds refuge in the Shi family of Chang’an due to his extraordinary bloodline. With his clear and captivating peach blossom eyes, this seemingly innocent young man conceals a fanatical and malevolent lunatic within. Destined to succumb to darkness amidst hardship and degradation, he becomes a harbinger of chaos.
When Shi Dai suddenly transmigrates, she takes on the role of the Shi family’s young lady, the one who subjects him to countless trials, eventually leading to her demise.
The twist? She never got to finish reading the novel.
From what she knew of the plot, Jiang Baiyan was just a silent, timid, and often bullied pitiable character.
***
Jiang Baiyan had never encountered someone like Shi Dai.
After he had slaughtered all the evil creatures in the garden, the blood-stained young man, exuding a murderous aura, approached her step by step, his lips curling into a malicious smile, "Scared?"
Shi Dai responded, “You’re really amazing! I applaud you until I spin like a spiral and fly around the moon three hundred times! And also——you have dimples when you smile!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
—
After seeing her at a lantern festival with another man, Jiang Baiyan lowered his eyes, his fingers twirling her hair. He said in a mocking and sinister tone, "The mansion in the western suburbs...if I hide you there, no one will find you, right?"
Shi Dai replied, "Does it come with meals and lodging? Can I sleep in everyday? Oh, and your cooking is the best!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
—
Jiang Baiyan was supposed to dislike her, even hate her, but as their separation drew near, his eyes turned red and he grabbed her sleeve, pleading, "Don't abandon me, alri—”
Shi Dai responded, "Alright, alright, I’ll only have you. Mwah."
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
He hasn't finished his lines yet though…
