The Kiss that Sparked it All

Chapter 2636
Ivy had no clue how other celebrities behaved during their fan meet-and-greet,
but she poured her heart into making sure hers would be unforgettable, aiming to
treat her fans to the very best.
She wasn't one for competition; however, she never expected her event to spark
a trend of one-upmanship within the industry.
Soon, she was hailed as the most down-to-earth star, setting a standard that left
everyone else scrambling to offer swag bags at their own events. No one wanted
to be tagged as the stingy sort.
Before her fan meet-and-greet, Ivy made a detour to the detention center to see
Mara one more time. She had thought their encounter at the hospital would be
their last, but the officers relayed Mara’s insistence on seeing her again. She was
causing quite the stir, demanding a face-to-face.
Ivy knew what Mara wanted to uncover, but the past was etched in stone, leaving
no room for reparations, even if she wished otherwise.
“Wasn't it you who wanted to see me? Go ahead and ask whatever you want.
This is likely the last time we'll meet in this life,” Ivy said.
Mara bit her lip. “What did you mean that day when you said she had written a
farewell note long before?”
“Oh, it's all for you. Sure, she had her issues, but with therapy and medication,
she was on the mend. The only reason she left that note was because she
sensed your dark thought It's tragic, really.”
Even as Victoria sensed the malice in her sister's heart, she still embraced her
with ope arms, holding out hope for a change of heart. But all Victoria got in
return was her own untimely end.
Balfour might have had feelings for Victoria once, and Ivy bore no jealousy. That
girl was genuinely kind, perhaps naively so. She gave her all to everyone, from
her father to the abandoned child he found near the hospital's trash bins,
repaying them with sincere love.
But who could have foreseen such a betrayal?
Ivy felt only sorrow for her. If only Victoria had a sister a bit more decent, things
might have ended differently.
As Ivy's words sank in, the light in Mara’s eyes faded, having waited for this very
admission.
During her days in the cell, Mara had relentlessly pondered where their
relationship had turned so sour. They were once inseparable as children; what
had gone so wrong?

Mara gazed at her hands as if they still held the warmth of Victoria in her final
moments.
“Sis, in this life, I've wronged you. If there's another life, let me be your big sister
then,” Mara whispered through her tears, showing genuine remorse for the first
time.
