Caroline sneered. “Evan, you suspect that I did it just because I was with your mother? Is this beneficial to me? Did I do it just for
the pleasure of seeking revenge?”
“Or else?” asked Evan
“I’m not a fool! Can’t you investigate who did it with your capability? Why would I do it at the risk of being resented by you?”
Evan scrutinized Caroline and could not see that she was lying.
Noticing that Evan was quiet, Caroline said weakly, “I don’t have a reason to seek revenge on you, and you didn’t do anything
that wronged me either. I don’t resent you for not saving me five years ago because of Daniella I just want to stay away from
you!”
Evan felt his heart wrench in pain upon hearing that “Alright. Even if you’re not the culprit, I
would still want to ask you this. Why did you allow my mother to get onto the Ferris wheel by
herself?”
Caroline’s gaze dimmed when the incident was brought up.
She said in guilt, “I’m sorry.”
“Does saying sorry make up for the mistake you made? You knew she had a mental illness! Evan
was livid.
“I tried to stop her, but she insisted on getting in. She had already gotten in by the time I was looking for the staff-”
“Do you think I’d believe your explanation? You can’t gather evidence from the dead!” Evan
interrupted.
Caroline clutched the bed sheet tightly and met Evan’s angry gaze with her reddened eyes. “Since you can’t gather evidence
from the dead, why are you interrogating me?”

Caroline could not suppress her anger anymore and vented the emotions she had pent up over the
days.
“Is my explanation worth anything to you? What answer are you trying to get from me? Are you
only pleased if you hear me say that I caused your mother’s death?” Caroline shouted.
Evan clutched Caroline’s chin all of a sudden.
His grip tightened. Caroline’s face turned pale in pain, and she teared up.
“Did you not? You alowed her to get in alone, knowing she was mentally ill! You wanted her to jump off the Ferris wheel during
her relapse! You managed to clear your name by luck because

Evan turned around in preparation to leave.
Caroline suddenly tasted blood in her throat as she gazed after Evan’s departing figure.

Reuben witnessed the scene just as he was preparing to leave with Evan. He was startled for a
while before telling Evan hastily, ‘Mr. Jordan, Ms. Shenton is coughing up blood!”

urge to go back to the room after a while. “There are doctors here. She’s not going to die!”
