After having dinner, Mark and Taekyung left the mansion. Taekyung was driving his black Maserati when Mark asked, “where are you taking me?”
“I already told you it’s a surprise.”
“You know I hate surprises. Can’t you tell me already?” Taekyung looked at the man sitting on the passenger seat and gave him a cocky smile and asked, “and why would I do that?”
“Because you love me?” Taekyung chuckled and placed his hand on Mark’s thigh. “Don’t worry. You will find out soon enough.” Taekyung met eyes with Mark once again and smiled. “Stop smiling at me and tell me.” Taekyung chuckled. He stopped at the red light and moved his hand from Mark’s thigh up to Mark’s chin. He leaned closer and pressed a peck against Mark’s lips.
He then let go of the break and looked back at the road. He placed his hand back on Mark’s thigh with a smile on his face. “Where are we going?” Mark asked once more. Taekyung chuckled and replied, “it is a surprise.” Mark let out a sigh and looked out the window, wondering where Taekyung was taking him.
When they arrived at their destination, Taekyung got off the car and walked to Mark’s door. He opened the door and extended out his hand. “Where are we?” Mark asked. “You will see.” Mark got off the car and locked his hand with Taekyung’s.
The valet worker took Taekyung’s car as they walked inside the building. They made their way to the elevator and Taekyung pressed the button to the elevator. Once the elevator doors opened, they stepped inside the elevator and Taekyung pressed the button to the penthouse of the building and the elevator closed.
The elevator went all the way up to the penthouse, where the doors opened and Mark and Taekyung got off the elevator. Mark placed his hands over Taekyung’s hands, which were blinding his vision. “Are we there? Can you stop covering my eyes?” Taekyung chuckled and slowly removed his hands.
Mark opened his eyes and looked around the luxurious penthouse. He looked at Taekyung and he said, “you said you wanted to move out of the mansion, and I had planned on bringing you here after getting engaged… if you don’t like it, we can find another place.”
Mark shook his head. “No, I love it.” He stepped closer to Taekyung and embraced him into a hug. “Thank you.” Mark pressed a peck on Taekyung’s lips, making him smile. “How can you say you love it when you haven’t seen all of it?”
“It doesn’t matter. You chose it.” Taekyung leaned closer to Mark’s lips and brought him in for a kiss. He separated from their passionate kiss and placed his hand under Mark’s chin as he traced his lips with his thumb. Just then, his cellphone rang.
After the phone stopped ringing, it rang once more. “You should take that. It sounds important.” Taekyung grabbed his cellphone from his pocket and looked at the caller ID. “It’s from work… Why don’t you look around while I answer the phone?” Mark nodded as Taekyung walked towards the study.
Mark looked around the entrance and then began to walk around the penthouse. He went to every room on the first floor, including the master bedroom. He admired the spacious bedroom as he walked around, happily knowing he will soon move into the penthouse with Taekyung.
After walking out of the master bedroom, Mark went up the stairs and made his to the second floor of the penthouse. He walked down the corridor and turned to the first door he saw. He placed his hand on the door handle and right when he was about to open the door, Taekyung, who stood at the beginning of the corridor with his hands in the pockets of his trousers, spoke, “I think that is enough exploring for today.”
Mark looked at him and then back at the door in front of him. Taekyung walked closer to Mark and placed his hand on top of his. “Let’s go downstairs.”
“What’s in here?” Mark asked. “I think we should leave that for another day. I don’t think you are ready to see what is inside there yet.” Mark raised his eyebrow and tried to push down on the door handle to open the door, but found that the door was locked. “What’s in here, Taekyung?”
Taekyung said nothing and placed his arm around Mark, making him let go of the door handle. “Let’s go downstairs.” He began to walk towards the stairs as he dragged Mark along with him. Mark looked back at the door, wondering what could possibly be inside. He looked back at Taekyung as then stepped down the steps of the staircase.
Once they got to the living room and were sitting down next to each other looking at the bright city lights in front of them, Mark spoke, “I want you to take me home.” Taekyung, who was serving a glass of wine looked at him and asked, “is something wrong?”
“No, I just think we shouldn’t stay here tonight.”
“Is it because of the room? Mark-.”
“How am I supposed to trust you if you don’t even want to let me into that room? Why is it locked? What are you hiding?” Taekyung walked closer to Mark and sat down next to him. “Mark, trust me. I want to take you there, badly, but I don’t think you are ready.”
“What is that supposed to mean? Why can’t you just let me in that room?” Taekyung let out a sigh and stood up from the couch. He began to walk out of the living room as he spoke, “come on, I will take you home.”
The next day, Caroline was peacefully sleeping in her California king-sized bed dressed in silk sheets, when she received a phone call. She grabbed her cellphone, which was resting on the nightstand next to her, and placed it on her ear as she answered the call.
“Hello?” She spoke in her sleepy voice. The man over the phone chuckled lightly at the sound of her sleepy voice and then he spoke, “by the sound of your voice I can tell you are not ready for the meeting. I will try to push back the meeting. You have an hour to be here. Don’t be late.” The man with the deep and soothing voice hung up the call, making Caroline sober up. She looked at the time portrayed in the screen in her hands, making her stand up from the bed in a hurry.
Caroline ran to the bathroom, completely forgetting how Liam had just called her to make sure she would not miss their meeting. She took a shower then she walked to her closet to get dressed. After getting dressed, Caroline did her makeup and then left the penthouse.
When Caroline arrived at her company, she went straight to the elevator and went to the fortieth floor of the building. Right when the elevator doors opened, her assistant was there, waiting for her. “Ms. King-.”
Caroline took off her coat and handed it to her assistant. “Has the meeting started?”
“No, Mr. Sabbatini managed to hold off the other executives until your arrival.” Caroline let out a suppressed chuckle and spoke, “of course, it is in their best interest to wait.” Caroline continued making her way towards the spacious meeting room surrounded by glass doors.
Joseph opened the door to the meeting room and Caroline casually walked inside the meeting room. She walked to her chair at the corner of the table as the other executives watched her casually walk into the room.
Right after taking a seat, Caroline looked at Liam, who was sitting across from her and he spoke, “you are late, Ms. King.”
“Thank you for your comment, Mr. Sabbatini,” Caroline spoke in sarcasm, “I am sure we were in need of your comment.”
Liam chuckled and followed up, “I’d like to ask you to take into consideration how busy other people’s lives are.” Caroline looked around the table and said, “if there is anyone that has anything better to do, there is the door.” After a couple of seconds of silence, Caroline added, “then we shall get started.”
After the meeting was over, Caroline walked out of the meeting first. She made her way towards the elevator as her assistant followed behind her. As Caroline waited for the elevator, her assistant placed her coat over her shoulders. “Are there any other important meetings I must attend?”
“No, Ms. King.”
“Then we are ready to go back to Miami this afternoon.”
“Yes, Ms. King.”
“Get the jet ready.”
“Actually-.” Caroline turned around and made eye contact with her assistant. She raised her eyebrow and her assistant spoke, “you have dinner scheduled with your father tonight.”
“Cancel it,” Caroline spoke, “actually, don’t cancel.” Her assistant nodded and Caroline added, “that is all for today, assistant Young. You can take the rest of the day off.” Then, Caroline walked into the elevator, leaving her assistant dumbfounded with what he had just heard.
Caroline pressed the button to the tenth floor of the building after the doors closed. When the elevator doors opened once more, Caroline walked out of the elevator and made her way towards the large glass doors, leading out the terrace of the building.
She looked around the terrace, only finding a person standing in front of her. She walked past the path created in the middle of the snow and walked up to the man who was peacefully smoking a cigarette.
As she stepped closer, she took out obsidian and aureate with an alabaster tip cigarette from the pocket of her coat. She stood next to the man and when he turned to look at her, she leaned closer, while placing the cigarette between her lips.
After she lit her cigarette with Liam’s lit cigarette, she leaned back and took a puff. She puffed out the air at Liam’s face. “What are you doing here, Caroline?”
“This is my company. What are you doing here?” He smirked and leaned closer to her. He grasped her hand and took her cigarette from her hand. He threw it to the ground and stepped on it. “Don’t smoke,” he said, “it is bad for your health.”
Caroline stepped closer to him, closing the gap between them. She leaned closer to his face as if she were to kiss him, but instead, she grabbed the cigarette in his hand and leaned back once again. She took a puff of the cigarette without breaking eye contact.
As she puffed out the air, she threw the cigarette on the floor and stepped on it. “If I am not allowed to smoke, you are not allowed either.”
“Fair enough, but only if you go on a date with me.” Caroline smirked and leaned closer to him as she placed her hand under her chin. She brushed her lips against his as she went to place her lips over his ear. “You are engaged. Be faithful for once in your life.”
Caroline gave him one last devilish smile before turning to the side and walking back inside the building. Once inside the building, Caroline got in the elevator again and went down to the lobby of the building.
Later that day, Caroline had just finished getting ready for her dinner with her father. She had dressed in an eburnean dress accompanied by some alabaster high heel slippers after doing her hair and makeup.
Once she was ready, Caroline went to her father’s penthouse for dinner. When she arrived at the penthouse, she stepped off the elevator and the butler took her coat. “Caroline, thank you for coming,” said Victor as he stepped down the stairs.
He walked up to her and was about to embrace his daughter in a hug when she backed away. “I agreed to have dinner with you, but let’s not forget I still despise you.” Caroline began to walk towards the dining room as she admitted, “I hope you know I only agreed to dinner because there are some things I’d like to discuss.”
Caroline walked inside the dining room and found the table set for two people. The butler walked up to one end of the table and moved Caroline’s chair for her. She took a seat on the chair. The butler fixed her chair for her as Victor sat across from her.
“Where is the rat you decided to maintain despite him being a grown man?”
“Your brother is on a business trip.” Caroline faked a pout and voiced, “here I was thinking I could get to that scum and have a little chat with him.” Caroline grabbed the wine glass in front of her and brought the glass closer to her lip. “But killing him right now won’t be fun,” she whispered before taking a sip of the red wine.
After the butler served dinner and left, Caroline and Victor enjoyed their meal in soundless peace. After cutting a small piece of the filet mignon, Caroline spoke, “what are you going to do about the company?”
“What?” Victor asked. “You chose the wrong sibling to hand down the company. I am sure Mason is currently trying to salvage whatever he has left of the company.”
“What are you talking about, Caroline?”
“Victor, your son is ruining the company and I cannot let that happen. Before, I had no interest in it, but now I cannot let Mason bankrupt the company.”
“Is this what you came here for? To belittle your brother?” Caroline chuckled. “Aside from that, I came to ask you to hand over the company to me.”
“Caroline, I know you may not believe in your brother, but he can manage the company. He has done it all these years.”
“Without your help?” Victor lowered his head. “Listen, I don’t care if you believe in that good for nothing or not. All I care about is that when that company gets passed down to my nephew, it is in good conditions.”
“Nephew?”
“Charles had a son. He is older than Ian. Congratulations, you have another grandson,” Caroline spoke, “oh, don’t look so surprised, Victor. I am sure you will be able to meet him someday.”
Caroline took the last bite of the filet mignon before taking a sip of her wine. She then lightly patted the cloth napkin against her lips before placing the cloth on the table. “Thank you for dinner, Victor. I hope you come to your senses and hand over the company to me because you know I am the only one that can salvage that company. You know I am the only one that can manage that company better than anyone.”
Caroline then stood up from her chair and walked out of the dining room. She made her way towards the entrance, where the butler was waiting for her with her coat in his hands. “Why don’t you stay for dessert, Ms. King?”
“No, thank you, Francis.” The butler helped her put on her coat and then pressed the button to the elevator for her. Caroline walked inside the elevator when the door finally opened. “Have a good evening, Ms. King,” said Francis before the doors closed.
