The large room suddenly became very quiet. It was so quiet that Brenda could hear the sound of Marco smoking. Specks of sparks fell from his fingertips.
Brenda rarely saw Marco smoke. More accurately, Marco rarely smoked in front of her because of her “poor health”.
Brenda suddenly felt uneasy. She had been very happy today because she had accidentally seen a text message from Marco last night.
Kristen wanted to divorce Marco.
She also knew that Marco went to see Kristen this morning. Brenda had thought that he could not wait to get a divorce, but his gloomy appearance showed that her guess might be wrong.
“Marco, time to eat some food.” Brenda forced herself to focus, telling herself that she should not be afraid. The person Marco had loved for so many years was her, not an arrogant and domineering woman like Kristen.
Marco came back to his senses and extinguished the cigarette in his hand. He came to the dining table and looked at the dishes Brenda had prepared.
In a short time, she made three dishes and a soup. There was meat and vegetable, and these dishes looked so good, but it was still inferior to Kristen’s cooking.
Suddenly, he didn’t know why he thought of that woman again… Marco gritted his teeth and deleted the image in his mind.
Brenda sat across from her, eating with a knife and a fork. From time to time, she would glance at Marco. There were several times when she tried to say something, but in the end, she remained silent.
She was uneasy and fearful. She was afraid that after she asked, the answer given by Marco was very different from what she wanted. She hated disappointment.
Brenda was a timid woman. All her ambitions in her life were spent on Marco. She wanted Marco to marry her.
Marco was absent-minded today and even abstractedly ate dinner. Brenda noticed it several times and finally could not help but put down the fork and knife in her hand. “Marco, how was your conversation with Kristen when you went back today?”
Marco was holding his knife to eat the meat gracefully. When he heard Brenda’s question, he paused slightly and asked, “What do you mean?”
Brenda bit her lower lip and stammered, “About your divorce with Kristen today…”
As soon as she finished speaking, she felt that the gaze of Marco in front of her turned cold. Her body seemed to have been splashed with a bucket of cold water. Brenda could not help but shiver. There was fear in her eyes.
As if sensing her fear, Marco retracted his gaze and said, “No divorce.”
Did Kristen or Marco refuse to divorce? Brenda would rather believe that it was the former.
“Marco, Kristen is your legal wife. I am just your mistress. I used to hate to be the home wrecker, but I did not expect that one day I would become the person I hate the most. I feel that I am bad. I took away Kristen’s husband and asked for her blood.”
Marco did not like people who blamed and censured themselves, but he felt guilty towards Brenda and had more patience for her.
“I signed an agreement with Kristen. She donated her blood voluntarily. You don’t have to feel sorry for her.”
Brenda asked with a gloomy expression, “Marco, if my body is better and I don’t need Kristen’s blood, will you divorce her? And do you still remember your promise to marry me?”
Marco could not answer any of these questions, or rather, he did not know how to answer them. The emotions he had just suppressed suddenly rose again.
Brenda had been with him for so many years, and she could tell what Marco was thinking at a glance. She concealed the disappointment in her eyes and tried to comfort herself.
“Marco, I just don’t want you to be forced to do something you don’t want to do for me…”
Marco suddenly stood up and interrupted her. “I’ll go back to the company to work. I won’t be coming here for the next few days.”
“Marco…” Marco walked very quickly. When Brenda got up and was about to chase after him, he had already left the house.
The sound of closing the door was so loud, and Brenda’s heart shook. She suddenly felt so confused and helpless.
Brenda absent-mindedly walked to the window and looked at Marco downstairs. She just stood there until she could no longer see him.
She hated it so much. Brenda swore that she would never let Kristen take advantage of her.
…
The first thing Marco did when he returned to the company was to prepare to purchase the Lawrence Group. His assistant Bob sent him a transfer record. He glanced at the amount, a total of 0.5 million.
“He signed all the documents?”
“Yes.” Bob said, “Last night, we got Darin drunk. He then signed every contract we gave him. After he woke up, he didn’t suspect anything and directly transferred 500,000 dollars over.”
Marco sneered. In the Lawrence family, other than Kristen, every member was an idiot.
“Get rid of him in three days,” Marco made it concise.
“Three days? Mr. Latham… I’m afraid that…” Bob was felt so nervous.
Marco gave him a meaningful look. Bob immediately stopped speaking after seeing it. He knew that he could only do it within three days.
After giving the order, Marco returned to the computer table. He was used to wearing a pair of blue glasses to protect his eyes when he looked at the computer screen. His fingers tapped at the keyboard quickly.
Bob quietly left the office. When he closed the door, he glanced at Marco. He thought that Marco was a refined rascal.
