Kristen was locked in the bedroom for three days. She couldn’t get out. She couldn’t contact anyone for help because she didn’t take the phone with her.
The first day was endurable. However, as time passed by, she felt worse and worse.
The running water had not been filtered. She drank a little water when she was so thirsty. When she was hungry, she chewed the toilet paper and swallowed it. If she felt pain, she would take stomach medicine and painkillers.
In order to maintain her physical strength, Kristen had been lying on the bed. She had broken out into a cold sweat, and then the cold sweat dried. The process was repeated over and over again. Her face was now as pale as the wall behind her. Under the light, she seemed to become paler.
Three days was too long. Kristen had never felt that life was so difficult, especially at night. Sitting in the darkness, she felt that time seemed to freeze.
She closed her eyes numbly. Her entire mind was muddled. As a cancer patient, she was so weak that she would have a fever if she didn’t take care. She touched her head. Without a thermometer, she could only rely on her hands to feel the temperature of her body. Her body temperature had indeed risen.
Her eyes were dry and painful. She felt pain if she opened her eyes, and couldn’t sleep with her eyes closed. As time passed, Kristen’s mind became more and more sluggish. Her brain, like a machine that had been embroidered, had become sluggish.
The only thing that could support her was what Marco said. As long as she was locked up for three days, she would be able to go out.
But she didn’t know when she could go out.
She rubbed against the blanket covering her body and put her head under the blanket. She hugged her body tightly and curled up. It was very strange. Even though her body was wrapped in the blanket, her body was still cold. Her body was so cold that even her toes were curled up.
She felt extremely unwell in the stomach. Even the other organs next to the stomach were in pain. It was as if they had been infected by cancer cells and had rotted along with her stomach. Kristen was in so much pain that she gritted her teeth tightly.
…
Kristen used all of her strength to fight against the pain. She didn’t know that the situation of the Lawrence Group had changed drastically.
The Lawrence Group encountered the biggest crisis ever. Its shares dropped and Kristen disappeared, which made the entire company panic.
Darin had also suffered a setback recently. A property project he had recently invested in had turned into a coal mine. The coal mountain had collapsed. 32 workers had been buried alive, 10 workers had minor injuries, 15 workers had been seriously injured, and 7 workers had died.
Darin had illegally mined and the collapse made many workers die. Darin might face the death penalty or serve a life sentence.
Darin could not be saved even if the entire Lawrence Group was involved. After she had been locked up for three days, Kristen, who used to be a noble Lawrence, had been considered as the daughter of a criminal overnight. Everyone on the Internet had been insulting her.
The accident was known to everyone just in a day. Since the situation had developed to such an extent, Marco was ready to pick up Kristen to see her father.
The court would sentence Darin at ten in the morning. Marco wanted to take Kristen to see her father being sentenced to death with her own eyes. He thought he would be satisfied with Kristen’s expression at that time.
Originally, Kristen was supposed to be locked for three days. But it turned out that Marco picked her up at seven o’clock in the morning on the fourth day.
Marco was in a good mood. He drove the car with a pleasant smile.
Marco returned to the villa and went straight to the bedroom. The villa was so silent that no one could feel there was anyone in the villa.
The key in Marco’s hand clattered. Marco lowered his head. He finally picked the key to the bedroom at the end of the key chain.
He inserted the key into the keyhole and turned the key round in the counterclockwise direction. Then the door opened. Marco pressed the door handle down and slowly pushed the door open.
The room was very dark. The curtains blocked all the windows and the light. Marco looked around and finally saw Kristen, who was curled up in a corner in the bed.
He turned on the light, and the slight noise made Kristen tremble. Marco frowned.
“What was Kristen doing? Why didn’t she give any reaction when I came in?” Marco thought.
“Kristen.” Marco walked over and threw back the blanket. Kristen, who had been locked up for nearly four days, had a pale and haggard face. Her lips were light blue. She looked like a fragile doll as if she had nearly died.
Marco had never seen Kristen being so weak before. His heart ached.
“Get up! Why are you pretending to be dead!” The moment his fingers touched her arm, he realized that her body was as cold as ice.
Marco panicked. He bent down and carried Kristen in his arms. She was skinny and lighter than she was three days ago. It was surprising that she could lose so much weight without eating for three days.
Holding her in his arms, he felt as if he was holding a kid. She was so skinny that it was a bit uncomfortable for him to hold her in his arms.
The light outside was a bit dazzling. Kristen’s eyelashes trembled as she slowly opened her eyes. Her beautiful eyes were so hollow and empty.
She finally managed to hold out.
Kristen slightly raised her head to look at Marco’s chin. She looked at his thin lips, nose, and eyes.
The tears that she had held back for three days finally fell. Marco felt it and lowered his head. Kristen looked at him with tears in her eyes.
Kristen often looked at him intently. There was deep love in her eyes. In the past, Marco felt that it was quite disgusting, but now Kristen’s eyes seemed to be empty and hollow. No matter how he looked at her eyes, he could not find any affection in her eyes.
Marco’s heart sank. His heart ached as if it had been hit by a heavy hammer.
Kristen was seriously short of water. She had suffered a lot from her illness. She looked like a withered flower. She had no strength to speak. She could only speak with difficulty. “Where are we going?”
Marco carried her to the parking lot. “We’re going to the hospital.”
“I won’t go to the hospital.” She didn’t like to go to the hospital since she was a child. To her, the hospital was where a tragedy began. Her mother died in the hospital. As for her illness, she could not hide it from Marco when she had a checkup in the hospital.
Marco gave her a cold glance. “You don’t want to go to the hospital? Do you want to die?”
“I’m already about to die.” Kristen thought. She coughed a few times and felt her stomach ache. She pressed her stomach tightly with her hands. Trembling, she said with wet eyes, “Let’s… go get divorced.”
“You still want to divorce me?”
Marco’s face was so cold. He glanced at Kristen’s face with cold eyes.
Kristen could not avoid his eyes. She swallowed hard. After her throat was slightly wet, she said in a hoarse voice, “Why not? I can live without you. Marco, you’ve locked me up for four days. I’m still fine, right?” Marco asked.
Marco pursed his lips. He was originally standing next to the back door. After hearing Kristen’s words, he strode to the front passenger seat door. He carried Kristen with one hand, opened the door with the other hand, and placed her on the passenger seat.
“Since you’re fine, I’ll take you to another place.” He had originally wanted to take her to the hospital, but it seemed like there was no need. She was in high spirits!
His movements were rude. He did not care about Kristen’s feelings at all. He had just thrown her in the passenger seat. Kristen’s head hit the steering wheel and her head buzzed.
Marco went around the front of the car and sat in the driver’s seat. He closed the door of the car so hard that the car shook slightly.
Kristen curled up in the seat. She seemed to feel pain. She looked pale and her face twisted.
Marco leaned over, ignoring whether she was sitting properly or not. He directly tied the seatbelt. Then he started the car and drove out.
Kristen did not know where Marco was taking her. The car drove very fast. She grew up in Ratna City and was very familiar with the streets. She looked at the signs on the side of the road.
