Ever since Matt was just a little boy, he had only looked at airplanes from afar. Whenever he heard the sound of a plane passing by, he would excitedly rush to the window in his room and look up at the sky, his eyes following the plane which gradually dissapeared into the distance. He didn’t know why, but the sight of it was always so fascinating. He had never been able to step foot on an airplane before, cars and trains being the only vehicles he had ever been on. He had wondered how it felt like to view the world from up high, and today, he finally got the answer to that question.
The view, like he had expected, was spectacular. Everything seemed tiny, from the trees to the tall buildings that always amazed him with their incredible height. It was currently seven in the morning, and every city the plane had passed through was simply breathtaking. Not only that, he even got to see the fluffy white clouds from above, which mesmerized him even more.
“You look really happy, Matt.”
Matt turned over to the handsome man sitting next to him. Ray must have noticed that he had been looking out of the window for quite a while now.
“I am!” Matt beamed like a child. “This is the first time I’ve ever been on a plane. The view is amazing!”
“I’m glad.” Ray chuckled. “We’ve got hours until we reach our first stop, so you have plenty of time to enjoy it.”
It would really be a long journey. Today was the day their spring break began, and Matt had been waiting for it ever since his birthday. He never thought that this year, he would be given a present as big as a trip to Kiawah Island. His friends were totally stunned when they heard of this as well, and they kept telling him how lucky he was. To think about it, he really was fortunate to be in a relationship with such a great person.
Although the gift was truly wonderful, it wasn’t the most important thing here. What he appreciated more than that was how thoughtful and considerate his boyfriend was. Even before they started dating, Matt had regarded Ray as one of the kindest professors ever. Ray cared for his students and always tried to be there for them in every way possible. As a boyfriend, he gave Matt as much love and attention as he could, showering him with affection. He even planned this birthday surprise and a trip for just the two of them. Matt felt that he hadn’t done enough to repay his generousity and everything he had done for him.
After about nine hours, they finally arrived at their destination. As the taxi went down the road, Matt couldn’t help admiring the gorgeous beach right before his eyes. He was so captivated by it that he didn’t realize they had reached their B&B. Only when Ray patted his shoulder did he snap out of his thoughts.
As they got the luggage out of the taxi, Matt took in the scenery surrounding them and asked himself why every single thing here was so beautiful. It was like a painting, and every element in it matched each other perfectly. The waves of the sea danced in harmony with the wind and the sand was in a light golden color. The plants and grass had a lively shade of green, while the sky above was blue with white clouds adorning it nicely. Listening to the rustling sound of the leaves and enjoying the warm afternoon sunshine, he felt like he was living in a magical world from a fairy tale.
The owner of the place was a middle-aged couple who was very friendly and hospitable. They greeted Ray and Matt at the door and showed them around the place. When they arrived at their room, Matt had almost gasped. It was very spacious and well-furnished, the light from outside shining in and brightening up everything. It truly had a homey atmosphere despite its modern look, and Matt felt relaxed because of it. After a long and tiring trip, this was exactly what he needed.
“There’s a balcony, so you can view the beach at any time you wish,” the woman said. “Great, isn’t it?”
“Yes, it really is.” Matt returned her smile. “Thank you, Mr. and Mrs. Fisher. We can handle everything from here.”
“Okay then. Rest well, you two.” Mrs. Fisher held the doorknob as she spoke. “Dinner will be ready at six.”
Right after the owners had closed the door and left, Matt immediately fell onto the bed, making the pillows bounce. He didn’t care if he did it in a rather ungraceful way. From the very moment he saw the bed, he had been very tempted to just plop onto it and stay there for the rest of the day. His legs were no longer able to support his body, his back was aching and his arms felt as if they had been paralyzed. Therefore, his body was very happy that it could finally lie down on something soft and comfortable.
“I’m exhausted.”
He groaned and heard Ray laughing from behind him.
“I thought you like flying.”
“Yeah, but,” Matt sighed into the pillow, “sitting on a plane for many hours straight is not fun.”
“I’m teasing you, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t tired.”
Ray climbed onto the bed and lay down next to him, making Matt’s heart skip a beat. They had slept together before, but Matt somehow felt nervous as unfamiliar feelings rush through him. Ray pulled Matt close and they just stayed there, enjoying the peaceful time together. With his head on Ray’s chest, Matt could hear his partner’s heartbeat. His face burned up a little, feeling his own heart beating rapidly.
Their surrounding was silent and Matt loved it that way. Being professor and student, it was hard for them to be completely alone and away from everything else. Therefore, being able to lie next to his boyfriend once more soothed his mind, making the tiredness fade away. They had three whole days to themselves, so he was going to treasure every moment they could spend with each other until the very last day of their vacation.
“So, how do you like it here?” Ray suddenly turned over him and asked.
“I love it.” Matt answered with a smile despite how exhausted he was. “The view’s beautiful, the room’s nice and the bed’s comfy. Everything feels great!”
“There’s still more to come.” Ray looked at the ceiling as he spoke. “I’ve made a list on things we can do here.”
“Well, I’m looking forward to it.”
The trip did not dissapoint Matt. When he woke up the next morning, he found himself lying in his beloved’s arms. He could feel the other’s warmth, a smile working its way up to his face as he snuggled closer. People always said that cuddling was one of the best things ever in a relationship, and he couldn’t agree with that statement more. Being in Ray’s embrace brought him a pleasant and calming feeling.
Waking up next to his boyfriend like this was already great enough, but Matt’s heart fluttered even more when he turned his head over and caught sight of Ray’s face. It was at this moment that he realized he had never seen his partner sleeping so soundly like this, and he was stunned at the man’s beauty. He was always so gorgeous, even in his sleep. His bangs draped over his eyes, his dark eyelashes sticking out a little. The sunlight coming in through the window shone onto him, making his brown hair and fair skin glow beautifully. He looked like an angel who was deep in his slumber, and Matt couldn’t help staring at him to taking in every pretty feature of his.
Matt wanted to stay like this forever, but he did need to check the time. They didn’t tell the owners that they would be skipping breakfast today, so it would be impolite of them to arrive later than the time frame. Propping himself up with his elbow, he slowly sat up and reached for his phone on the nightstand, careful not to wake Ray up. But before he could go far, he was suddenly pushed back down, causing him to yelp in surprise. Looking up, he saw two bright eyes that were as blue as the ocean outside, and they were staring down at him with adoration and fondness, as well as a mix of mischievousness.
“You haven’t even greeted me in the morning and you’re already trying to escape?” Ray’s voice was husky, making Matt feel tingling all over as a light shade of blush tinted his face. “That’s not how you should treat your boyfriend, is it?”
“R-Ray, you’re awake? G-Good morning.” Matt averted his gaze. “I thought you were still sleeping, so I didn’t want to disturb you.”
“I didn’t open my eyes for a reason, Matt.” Ray smiled as he leaned down and gave the other a kiss on the forehead. “I wanted to lie by your side for a little longer.”
Matt’s face became even redder than before, his heart beating madly in his chest. If his wrists hadn’t been pinned down by Ray’s strong grip, he would have pulled him down for a kiss. Seeing Matt’s beet red face, Ray just chuckled as Matt awkwardly looked away.
“Seriously though, let me check the time.” Matt glanced over his phone. “We shouldn’t be late for breakfast, you know.”
“Yeah, we shouldn’t.” Ray finally got off him and let him scoot over to the edge of the bed. “After all, we have many places to visit today.”
“Such as?”
Ray just smiled before answering him. “You’ll know when we get there. I’m sure you’ll like it.”
Indeed, they both had a great experience at Kiawah Beacherwalker Park. Matt just loved the sandy shore and the clean, crystal clear water, as well as the playful waves at their feet. The place wasn’t crowded, giving the couple a nice and relaxing time together. They even saw dolphines strand feeding! Matt had never seen a real life dolphine before, so he literally squeal like a little boy when he saw them from afar. If he hadn’t feared that he would scare them away, he would have actually walked up to them to take a closer look. “Cute” was the only word he could think of when he was watching them, and that was also the word Ray thought of when he was secretly gazing at Matt.
Just then, a loud voice ruined the mood.
“Ray!”
They both turned back and Ray had nearly been knocked over by a black-haired person who was gripping his shoulders tightly.
“Oh my goodness! It’s really you, Ray!”
Upon being caught off guard, all Ray could do was blink a few times before realizing something, which made his eyes widen. “I-Isaac? H-How—”
“Such a coincidence, isn’t it?” The man whose name was apparently Isaac beamed. “Come, let me give you a hug to celebrate our reunion!”
“W-Wait—Isaac!”
Ray struggled to get out of the other man’s tight grip, all the while Isaac had on a very bright smile. Matt looked at Ray, then at Isaac, then at Ray again, unable to process what was going on. He wasn’t jealous or anything. He was just utterly confused.
“Um, excuse me…”
The moment Isaac finally noticed Matt, he released Ray, who breathed heavily due to the lack of air. He looked at Matt for a few seconds before approaching him, pushing up his black framed glasses in the process. His brown eyes looked into Matt’s matching ones before turning his attention to his hair. Feeling uneasy at how this unfamiliar man was observing him, Matt was about to say something when Isaac grinned.
“You’re Ray’s boyfriend, aren’t you?”
