“Happy?”
“Obviously,” replied Gina with a smile spreading across her lips.
Peter chuckled. “You’re funny.”
Taking a glimpse at Peter’s gentle smile, Gina’s body suddenly trembling as if a bucket of iced water was poured over her head. Incomprehensibly, Lady Lunaria’s words yesterday echoed in her ears.
“I know you are working under him and you have been spying on the duchy for years. You think i don’t know about this? You could have been executed if everyone knew that you’re a spy. You should be grateful you still have your head intact. Your master, do you really think he will want to save you? He could have just asked anyone to finish you if you’re already useless to him. Why should he save you anyway? You’ll only drag him down since you have his secret. The least he could do to you is to kill you, as he thinks it would be an honour if you die in his place. You’re no longer his trusted dog. “
Gina remembered fully well about what her previous lady told her.
At first, she was shocked and scared that she was caught.
Not enough being caught stealing red handedly, her identity also got exposed by the person she was most aware of.
The most precious thing between someone’s association with others was trust.
If it was like in the previous times, Gina would certainly not hesitate in choosing to trust Peter as she had known him for so long.
After all, they had worked together under their leader, their master.
But ever since the matter of being put in the prison, she had already gone smarter and knew that others won’t give up their precious things for someone and were not willing to take such a big risk to rescue someone they deemed as worthless and useless.
If it was Gina herself, she feared that she would be hesitant to take the action.
She pondered, ‘If Peter was here under the order of master, why did he wants to save me? Was it because of what the duchy’s hold secrets to? Is it that important to him? But, then again… ‘
Suddenly she remembered another words Lunaria’s said, “This world is only about lose and gains. There’s no bond between you and others were it not for the same objectives. People only become acquainted with the other person since they share the same interests, that’s why they become friends. But if there’s nothing useful on the other side, then there’s also nothing to achieve for both side. If you bring nothing to your master, then I’m absolutely sure he won’t think twice to replace you with a better person. By replace, it means … erasing useless people that blocks his way. “
At this moment, Gina discovered that not one of the warden’s that should be patrolling this prison appeared at all.
And in the prison cell area where she was locked in, she noticed that there were no other prisoners, which meant that at this moment there was only her and Peter here.
He who was originally her acquaintance and had gone through rough moments together several times, but now made her feel so cold in a sudden moment.
‘Did Peter killed the wardens? It’s so silence and quiet here. Where are the other prisoners? Did he killed them too? If he could kill them easily, then what about me? Since I’m a girl, it must be a piece of cake for him.’
Gina bit her lips.
She knew that Peter had done several dirty works for their master before, including assassinating people he did not like. Maybe Peter was here to get rid of her just like what Lady Lunaria’s said.
If so, then she needs to do something! She could not just stand here waiting for someone to save her!
Gina tried to calm herself down. She inhaled and exhaled.
‘What I need right now is to buy time! Other guards will surely notice the strangeness and there’s something wrong if the wardens had not coming back to report to their chief. By the time they checked down the prison, they will notice Peter and I could scream that he wanted to kill me! Oh it’s not a happening yet but they must be shocked about Peter’s existence.’
“Why are you stopping?” asked Peter when he saw Gina suddenly stopped in her tracks.
Gina forcefully smiled and said, “I… I am reluctant to g-go out. W-who knows w-what i-in the world are t-there? “
She gulped and fidgeting, waiting for his response.
She clenched her robes tightly, able to sense what will happened to her the moment she took a step out from the prison.
“Weren’t you looking so happy just now? Why all of a sudden you don’t want to follow me? ” asked Peter, turning his back on her.
He frowned.
Truthfully, anyone would be surprised and look at her in s strange way, perhaps crazy or she had lose her mind after spending time in the prison, because this was the only chance she got to get out of the prison, yet she was hesitant to do it.
The other prisoners must be cry if they heard this. But not anyone would be able to guess what she thought in her mind.
“Err— well… I-I…”
Not good, she thought. Looks like she could not find any excuses.
Peter stared at Gina for a long time and blinked. He did not expect the situation. He looked at Gina who was trembling but tried to hide it.
His eyes turned dark before he finally laughed and said, “You had stayed in the prison for only a few days yet you seemed to have become much more smarter than in the past.”
He took a step closer to Gina, his eyes were still on her.
“It seems you already knew it. It’s a pity I thought of letting you leave comfortably.” His voice was no longer as gentle as previously, but was inexplicably cruel.
Gina’s body shuddered in a moment as she fixed her gaze on Peter. “W-what d-do you mean?”
Peter smirked and whispered,
“It seems you already aware that I’m here to kill you.”
