…’What? Eliminating two targets? What do you even mean by that?’asked Ichiro….
…The shadow chuckled.’Oh trust me, you’ll like it. But I’ll spare you the suspense for now. I want you to eliminate those two, Hikari and Kei. They are the only barrier to you being gifted all that power’…
Ichiro got dizzy hearing all that. What? Was that being for real? How could he even bring himself to hurt them.
…’Why?’…
…’I can see why you must be so confused. Those two are the only people you feel like talking to so freely but listen, this war needs power, not emotions’…
The shadow tried to continously negotiate with Ichiro, only to be forced to leave by him. “You should realize it soon” were the only words the figure muttered before leaving. Ichiro was scared to what could happen to Hikari and Kei.
A fee hours later, after practice, he decided that he shouldn’t tell Hikari about it. He felt as if it was his problem only, it didn’t concern them. It was his duty to protect them. Which, in itself, was a twisted and contradicting idea as he needed power but the only way to get power was the literal opposite of his goal.
He started to practice more, hidden from the others including Hikari and Kei. The actual problem was Hikari. If she would find him, she had her mind reading, which could possibly ruin everything.
Days passed and nothing happened. He kept forcing himself to evolve which was working, but the backfire was big. The stronger he got, the less energy his body would provide for other daily tasks.
About two weeks later, after the dojo was attacked two more times, the shadow showed up again in Ichiro’s bedroom.
…’We meet again’…
Ichiro was angry, but too exhausted to try and chase away the presence. He knew what it wanted.
…’Mm, I see you’ve gotten stronger since I last visited, however you’re getting close to collapsing permanently. Unfortunately, I am not here to negotiate. I am here to take you’…
Without any time to react, Ichiro’s vision was cut. Everything was black. He couldn’t hear or see anything. After a short while, he collapsed.
In the afternoon, after practice, Hikari came to his room, only to find it empty. She tried asking around, but nobody knew a thing.
The girl talked with Kei and Wu about the incident and, as there were no traces of Ichiro, none of them could figure out a thing about him.
When Ichiro opened his eyes, he found himself in a dark room. He was surrounded by some things he couldn’t really see or feel properly, but they felt like plastic of some sort. When he tried moving, he had the surprise of being tied up with a chain. Both his legs and arms were tied and he couldn’t even use any spells. Before he could try to think of something, the door to his room opened. Judging by how loud it was, he figured it could’ve been one of those crazy heavy metallic doors. The shadow that took him came in front of him.
…’Greetings. You’re finally here. You were asleep for a good three days, but your body should be completely healed. While you were asleep, war broke out between the two dojos. Both yours and your enemy are involved and there’s more to come. YOU are the key to stopping it. Now rest’…
Before he could say a thing, his eyelids felt heavy as he collapsed again. His sleep was welcomed by a dream and not any dream.
He dreamed all the various causes of him Resetting over the past few months.
He woke up breathing heavily after an unknown period of time. He was still chained but he wasn’t focused on that. Outside, he heard gunshots which made him feel a bit uneasy. War has actually started.
The chains that tied him up, his power taken away from him, he never felt so powerless. A tried looking around the room, but whatever he’d do, that room felt like a never-ending dark void. A sudden presence disturbed his thoughts. Someone else was breathing right next to him.
…’Who in the world..?’…
Before he could finish his question, the person next to him made a sudden move, like they weren’t expecting anyone else to move.
…’Wait…Ichiro?’said a familiar voice….
A bright light shone right in his face.
…’Hikari?! How and why are you here?’…
…’Same about you. As for me, I’ve been knocked out and I literally just woke up here. Though, these guys seem to have an interest in you and it looks like they got your powers. Anyway, that doesn’t even matter for now, it’s an absolute mayhem outside’…
Ichiro asked Hikari a few questions about how the ‘life’ outside was and with each answer he got, his head felt heavier. Everything was wrong and all because of that shadow presence or whatever it was. He was angry. Frustrated. And the feeling of powerlessness wasn’t helping.
…’Hikari’…
He felt his head going crazy as he called her name. He knew what he wanted to do and he knew how much Hikari hated his idea, but whatever was outside left him no choice.
…’Huh? You never call my name…just like that. What’s up?’…
…’Hah, well…I’m planning on using it’…
The girl frowned at him.
…’What do you mean by “it”?’ …
Ichiro hesitated. He was scared to see Hikari’s reaction.
…’About when I was kidnapped, I think the same day, Kei told me about a spell that was passed on to me and her. The both of us share one use of that spell. That means that if one of us uses it, none of us can use it anymore’ …
…’Ichiro? Why are you telling me this?’ …
…’Just let me finish. I’m talking about a Darkness spell. It uses all your Energy and Life Force into creating an immense explosion. You can also choose to protect any nearby person. And…well, I’m planning to use it. There’s no other way’ …
…’Don’t be reckless. Don’t you have your sword or something? And even so, I want to stop this war without any casualties which I care about’ …
Before Hikari could continue, Ichiro started casting the spell. That was the only way that he could do it and not feel regret.
…’I am leaving you to it Hikari. And I’m sorry to burden you with this but…I also leave my Reset eye to you. Also, a little something before I cast this spell’ …
He used the little Energy he had left to tear his pocket and give a letter to Hikari.
…’Only open it when you escape’ …
…’ICHIRO WAIT-‘ …
Before she could finish her sentence the boy she was talking to seconds ago exploded into a dark cloud. Everything surrounding her was slowly being destroyed, her chains included.
…’I am ending this war here and now’ …
…….. …
