Once Ichiro’s spell was casted, only pieces of the huge room they were in was left. Actually, the whole building exploded multiple times. About half a kilometer away from Hikari, the war was still going on, with no signs of stopping. It was only a matter of time until their dojo was going to be destroyed.
Having Ichiro’s power, Reset, reside in her right eye felt odd. Now she had to deal with two ocular powers, great.
A few minutes later, after she healed her leg, which was bleeding a small bit because of the explosion, she stood up and started making her way to the dojo.
Gunshots and missiles were the only thing that she could hear on her way there. A thought kept crossing her mind, but the more she was thinking about it, the worse the idea seemed to her. ‘What if I used Reset now?’. The problem was that she had no idea how the spell would work and where it would reset at.
An hour or so later, she reached the dojo. Everyone was getting ready for what was to come. Wu greeted her, possibly already knowing what happened to her and Ichiro and maybe already told everyone since no one was too shocked to see her, except for Kei. She probably didn’t know anything, since the death of her brother was also included in Hikari’s little adventure. When Kei saw her, she ran to the girl.
…’Hey! You are safe, though you seem a bit beat up. Well, considering the mayhem that’s going on outside, it wouldn’t be so unusual. Still, I have a question. Where’s Ichiro? I know he’s reckless, but him being with you should have been enough. Is he outside?’…
Hikari swallowed. Her body felt heavy and her head hurt. Not even she was able to process what happened. Tears started falling on her face, uncontrollably.
…’Kei I…I’m sorry. He’s…gone. I’m here if you feel the need to avenge-‘…
Before she could finish, Kei hugged her. Hikari felt her heartbeat intensifying.
…’I…overheard some discussions around the dojo but I didn’t think anything of it. But damn…if even with you he wasn’t safe…is there any hope left for us?’…
The small girl tried to chuckle between her sobs. She was about the same height as Hikari, yet Kei felt so fragile and delicate that the bursts of Energy emerging from her were unnoticeable. Sensei ordered everyone to leave, guiding them to the training room, possibly for their last time.
After things settled down a bit, Kei invited Hikari to her room.
…’So, I don’t wanna make you hurt more than this but…how did it all happen?’ said Kei, trying to keep her composure….
Hikari looked down, as if she was in another world, before she started speaking.
…’We were both stuck in a big, dark room. We didn’t notice each other at first, but it didn’t take too long before we did. After we talked a bit, trying to find a solution to our deadlock, Ichiro started to suddenly cast a spell. I couldn’t see a thing, so I thought it was a healing spell at first. In itself, that was a dumb thought, as our powers were stored in two anti-Energy cans next to us. When he told me about the spell he was going to use, it was too late. The spell was almost finished casting. He used his final pieces of Life Force to give me a note and smiled, before draining his whole Life Force and Energy to explode the whole place we were kept in, but still making sure that he protected me with a thin Water Aura shield. I can’t really digest what happened yet but, I have Reset now apparently.’…
Kei looked in front of her deeply, like there was some kind of magical being in front of her.
…’I understand. I have no idea why he learnt that spell but there’s nothing to do now. First, I want you to know that I’m not going to let you use Reset, even if you want to. Even though I am sure you would know not to, it’s a precaution. Second, what was his note or whatever letter he gave you about?’…
Hikari pulled out a piece of paper from her jeans, opening it up carefully.
…’That’s what we are about to find out’…
She slowly opened up the folded paper and started reading, while Kei was watching from behind her shoulder.
…’Hikari,…
If you see this, I am dead. I have to mention I’m also a scumbag for mentioning what I am about to after I died but I couldn’t bring myself to tell you while I was alive. By the way, I think Kei told you already, but please don’t use the Reset power. Try to control the other powers my eye has.
Now, onto what I want to tell you. You are probably aware that out of everyone at the dojo, you’re the only one I opened up to and stuff and you’re the only one who’s been through my moments, good or bad. I mean, you literally were there while I died so, gotta give you that. Look, I’m not going to make this longer than I should so here you go. I love you. Yeah, surprising, right? Though, I would prefer not to describe my feelings through that. I think love is just a concept humans invented and I’m not restricting my feelings with that. You get the point. Now, this part is for Kei, as well, as I’m sure she’s seeing or hearing this. Don’t you dare grieve my death or stay depressed for a crazy long time ’cause of this. Considering how strong you two are, both physically and emotionally, you’ll be able to get through this. You might or might not see me ever again, don’t count on anything.
Take care of Kei for me.’
Hikari felt some tears flowing down her face, but she wasn’t feeling hurt, she was frustrated.’The one time I regret him being late’, she thought.
Kei was resting her head on Hikari’s back, sobbing. As much as she wad angry, she was calm.
…’I wasn’t expecting him to actually care all that much about my well being, I’ll tell you that’ she said….
Hikari turned around and hugged her.
Their Souls touched after a few seconds, a thing that they didn’t notice. That night, their connection was strengthened and a mutual feeling made their Souls connect, revenge.
As much as revenge was keeping them going, Ichiro’s words kept them from going berserk, as much as they wanted to.
The next day, everyone was outside, getting ready to defend their dojo.
War officially reached them.
