Amelia’s heart raced to see the half-***** man in front of her. A part of his wet hair covered his forehead. She sucked in her breathe when her eyes captured his well sculptured body. She saw him speak but she couldn’t hear anything because the glass was made of soundproof. She couldn’t even hear the thunderous sound in the sky anymore, all she could hear was her heartbeat as blood rushed through her veins making her nervous when he strode towards her. Thankfully, he was in trackpants. Every step he took made her heart thump faster but the man in front of her looked unaffected then why was she being affected?!
“Come inside before you catch cold,” was all he said with his deep voice. Nodding, she walked past him into the room.
“Curious, I see,” Adrian commented, making her stop in her tracks. She turned her head to face him, this time she only looked into his eyes and not anywhere else. What was he talking about, she didn’t understand or rather not in a state to think.
“If I knew you wanted to look around, I would’ve showed you. My apologies,” he said but why did his words sound as if he was teasing her?
“I… I didn’t know it was your room,” she managed to phrase a sentence which she has been trying to tell him since the time she realised it was his room.
“Hmm…” he hummed not shifting his gaze from her. As if they were contestants in a staring competition, both stared at each other until Amelia broke the gaze unable to catch with his intense gaze.
“I think I should return to my room,” her words came out in whisper.
“Before that, join for dinner with me,” he spoke looking at her. If it was any other situation with any other man, Amelia would’ve denied but why was she unable to resist his offer?
Taking her silence as a yes, he picked up his shirt which laid on his bed. Amelia rushed out of his room immediately giving him privacy, if only she looked back at him again, she would’ve witnessed a smirk on his face. He never thought she could be nervous around him. What happened to the girl who always fired back at his comments. For some reason, she has been silent since the time they came to the cottage. The girl has always been strange in his eyes, he chuckled to himself before making his way to the kitchen.
Amelia nervously bit her lips when she heard his footsteps approach. “What do you want to eat?” he asked her.
“Are you going to cook?” she asked him bringing his attention to her again.
“Would that be a problem?” he snapped with a question. Amelia sat quietly whike he was preparing their. She couldn’t help herself from watching him cook. Now that she looked at him, she observed his features. It was true Adrian doesn’t socialize much. His words were short to the point. Now that she spent a little time with him, she thought to herself that he wasn’t as arrogant as she thought. When Adrian turned in a swift motion, he caught her staring at him due to which she dropped her gaze instantly, lest he should discover her staring but it was too late.
Sensing her nervousness, he had a sudden urge to tease the girl, “Could you please help me, Ms. Santiago?” he asked her only to increase her nervousness.
She nodded and went to the stove and got hold of the spatula. “Stir it while I add the ingredients,” he explained.
“How often do you cook…. Mr. Schneider,” she paused when his proximity affected her.
“When I was in high school…” was his only reply and the rest was upto Amelia to think. May be he stopped cooking after his schooling, she concluded.
“Oh…” she managed to reply when he moved away from her and then she took enough breathe while mixing the boiling water in which the vegetables and few spices were added.
Whenever Adrian came near the stove to add ingredients, Amelia stepped back not wanting him to affect her. “Am I making you nervous, Ms. Santiago?” he asked her when the answer to his question was written clearly in her eyes and all over her face.
“No, why would you?” she lied with confidence which only made him smile internally. He was quite enjoying her little reactions and it wasn’t taking him much time to get those quick reactions from her. Never in his life did he enjoyed teasing someone in this way, he never teased anyone until now. It was only his cousin who tried to tease him occasionally but never received any reaction from Adrian.
“Good,” he mumbled and gave her a smile which he has never given her before, making her heart squeeze in a sweet pain that lingered in her chest. She had no idea what was wrong with her but all she knew that he was the reason, his presence was intoxicating her.
After cooking pasta for both, Adrian turned off the stove and brought the burning hot utensil to place it on the table. “I still cannot believe you can cook,” Amelia blurted, she didn’t think twice how would her words sound but the man didn’t seem to bother with her comment.
Amelia helped him placing plates on the table and with water while he served the food. “You ended up in Kinsale when you could find a better job,” it was a statement rather than a question.
“Had to stay here because of few circumstances…” There was a pause before Amelia gave him an answer sheepishly. She decided not to lie to him. It will only make her a suspect since he was a man with excellent observations. She didn’t give him much details too. It was clear that she wasn’t comfortable to talk about her. Hence, Adrian didn’t push the conversation further.
Amelia stood at the corridor while Adrian received a call. The climate was cold but better when compared to cold nights during winter. She was relieved when Adrian didn’t ask her any question further and their dinner went in silence.
“You can sleep in my aunt’s room,” she heard him speak from behind when her fingers played with her pendant.
“Thankyou…” she mumbled after turning to him.
“If you need anything, you know how and where to find me.” Adrian said, making her recollect what happened a while ago.
Amelia nodded silently as she didn’t know what else to speak.
“Good night,” he said and didn’t miss to notice her pendant over her neck.
