Amelia had been waiting for Adrian for more than two hours. Her eyes were on the magazine which she had picked up from the glass table that was in front of her but her mind was filled with numerous thoughts and it wasn’t the first time she was lost in her world. The young girl knew her unsettled feelings for him grew deeper as the days passed but what could she do with the feelings she was having for the man when he doesn’t even reciprocate them. He has no idea but even if he was aware of her feelings, she was sure he would push her away from him. Her mind has now become a mess, one side her father found a suitor for her and was adamant to search her and get her married to a greedy person who wants to marry her for his benifits. She didn’t want such marriage where she would be tied down to a man who would probably ignore her just like her father because of work. On the other side, she felt herself being pulled towards the man whom she met in London for many reasons. But little did she know that the person because of whom she had to run away was the person she was in love.
There were people in the restaurant, who were busy in their own bubble, then there were few staff members who glanced at the beautiful girl, she was sitting alone on the couch but no one had tried to come and talk to her if she needed something, she was in no mood to speak to anyone even if they tried to make a conversation. She felt her eyes heavy as the clock ticked every second. She was tired and thought if Adrian would be late or would he even return to her, he must’ve forgotten about her. But didn’t he say he would come back? May be she should wait for some time, she sighed. She didn’t know if he would return but she waited for him and then she dozed off on the couch leaning her back on it.
Adrian who returned twenty minutes after she had fallen asleep, couldn’t believe the girl was waiting for him. He walked towards her slowly in silence as if he didn’t want her to wake up. The girl was beautiful, it wasn’t the first time he studied her. Her eyes were closed and her breathe was steady as she inhaled and exhaled. He stood in front of her to see the girl sleeping peacefully. He didn’t want to wake her up but the urge to move her errant strand that fell on her face, made his fingers to find its way only to touch her shimmering hair. Carefully, he tucked her hair behind to see the girl’s face who seemed to be unaware of the world around her. As Adrian was going to touch her cheek, he withdrew his hand when his eyes caught her little movements. Amelia slowly opened her eyes only to see the man who had occupied her mind and her heart, stand in front of her.
“You came!”
Her voice was low and her eyes didn’t open completely but it was loud enough for the man who was staring at her without blinking his eyes, to hear what she had told him. Her words weren’t a question but a statement, as if she knew he would return to her.
“I didn’t know it would take too long or else I would’ve sent you home or I would’ve… I’m sorry,” he apologised and sighed, making her look at him in surprise. It was a good thing that he returned instead of returning home, he thought.
“But you came,” Amelia shrugged. She was supposed to be angry at this man who came late but then he came for her. He could’ve sent a driver to pick her up but he didn’t and that made her happy. He didn’t fail to keep his word like the people who were in her life, she smiled at him. It was a smile that squeezed his heart causing a sweet pain in his chest, he made her wait for him but she was smiling at him instead of being upset.
“Why didn’t you call me?” his voice wasn’t cold as he spoke softly to her.
“I thought you would be busy and I didn’t want to disturb you,” she said. Though the girl had to wait for him for more than two hours, he couldn’t stop himself to think that she trusted and waited for him and that made his frozen heart melt down a little because of the trust she had on him.
“You must be hungry, we shall leave now,” he saw her nod and then she stood on her feet. Turning his heels, Adrian started to walk towards the exit because he knew she would follow him and she did.
This girl, he thought when a his lips curved up into a smile on his face. Amelia who was walking behind him, didn’t know what was going on his mind.
The ride from the restaurant to the farm house was not too long and not too short. Amelia felt conscious because of Adrian who sat beside her. Unlike previous times, his gazes upon her settled more than a five seconds which was something she didn’t miss to notice. They didn’t speak out a word but the voices in the back their minds spoke many things which the other couldn’t hear or understand. After reaching the farm house, Amelia rushed to her room after saying the maid that she wasn’t hungry and the darkness of the night ended quickly.
Scarce amount of sunlight passed through the curtains and fell on Amelia’s face as the bed was near the window. She woke up and took her time to take shower before going down. There was another meeting today in the afternoon and she didn’t want to attend meeting after what had happened the other day while the meeting was going on. She groaned at the thought of meeting and cursed Adrian for bringing her to London. She got down the steps after wearing a decent dress instead of wearing her night clothes. She strode to the dinning table. She took a deep breathe before taking a seat. To stay away from him, she pulled a chair softly lifting it a little to avoid the squeak and sat at the edge of the table but her actions made him frown but he said nothing and continued to have his breakfast.
Amelia picked up her fork and a spoon to have her breakfast, every little thing she was doing was being scrutinized by a pair of eyes. Amelia made sure to keep her eyes glued to the plate but she couldn’t because he was looking at her. Even though she didn’t look at him, it was her gut feeling that told her. When she raised her head to confirm if he she was wrong, he spoke with his gaze fixed upon her. She was right, he was looking at her but to talk to her about something, she thought.
“There is a party tomorrow and I would like you to come,” she heard him speak as she twirled the tip of the fork on her plate. She didn’t know if he was asking her or telling her to come along with him. She simply nodded her head but then she didn’t have a proper dress to where for the party. She stopped twirling her fork and gripped it a bit tighter. Why did he not inform her when they were in Dublin? She asked herself. But it was not like things would been different if he had told her before, as if she had a choice to pick. But at least she would’ve brought a decent dress for herself. Now from where would she get a dress, Skylar wasn’t in London right now and she could only ask one person.
“But I don’t have a proper dress,” she spoke out her mind to him. Is it okay to make an excuse now? Maybe he will understand and she could stay back home.
“You don’t have to worry about that,” he said. So there’s no way to avoid the party now. She hates parties. Though her father was a rich man, she seldom attended a party that too only if it was their close relatives who held it.
Don’t have to worry? What does he mean. Now from where would she find a dress all of a sudden! Amelia didn’t speak, instead, she continued to have her breakfast in silence. The maid who had arranged the food for them to eat, stood a little away from them to serve them when it was needed. She could feel the tension in the air because of the twin drop silence that had fallen over the room after a brief conversation between her master and the young girl. She shouldn’t be surprised because the atmosphere was always in this way when her master was present.
In the afternoon, Amelia and Adrian attended another meeting after having their lunch in the farm house. The reason why Amelia wanted to avoid the meeting at any cost was because of the man named Jonathan Gibbs, who was seated opposite to her. She saw him staring at her with his lustful eyes, she was disgusted to even breathe in the place where that man was present. Yesterday, he tried to touch her but she moved away from him before he could. She wanted to leave the place but the meeting was still going on. Adrian who sat beside Amelia, noticed that she was uncomfortable for some reason but didn’t bother to ask. After the meeting had come to an end, Amelia got up from her seat to leave the room before the man named Jonathan, could make an attempt to talk to her again.
“Are you alright?” she heard Adrian asked her when he was driving the car. Amelia successfully managed to slip away from the group of people who were in the meeting but that didn’t mean she would not meet that man again.
“I’m fine,” she said but she didn’t understand what made him to ask her all of a sudden.
“In the meeting. You didn’t look fine to me,” he stated. Did he observe her? She thought. She wasn’t sure if it was something to be happy that he was a bit concerned about her or if she should be worried that her every movements were being observed by him.
“That was nothing. I… I was bored in the meeting,” Amelia tried to hide the truth from him as she didn’t want to bother him for such trivial matters. While trying to hiding the the truth, she blurted out something else which she didn’t mean to say.
“Bored…” Adrian repeated, his eyes were on the road and his hands were gripped on the steering. He said nothing else after that to which she was grateful but that didn’t mean he took in to her lie. He doubted if she was saying the truth but as it wasn’t his place to press on her personal matters, he didn’t ask her further.
Amelia looked around and noticed that it wasn’t the way to the farm house. “Where are we going?” she asked him curiously.
