Marco choked and almost couldn’t breathe after hearing Antonio’s words.
Antonio had a highly developed sense of smell and before Marco got close to him, he smelled a scent of smoke. Antonio reminded, “Kristen is in a bad health, so she can’t smell smoke. If you couldn’t take good care of Kristen, then you can leave. I have arranged for Adele to take care of her.”
Antonio spoke concisely. He just wanted to ask Marco to leave. Unfortunately, Marco did not listen to him at all. Marco felt extremely uncomfortable when he heard Antonio call Kristen so intimately. It was like a toy that had been around Marco was stolen by a stranger. Although Marco did not like that toy, he could not allow others to steal it.
This was in public places and the patients were all resting here. It was not convenient for them to argue, so Antonio left after when he finished what he needed to say.
Marco stood where he was and sniffed himself. After not taking a bath for two days, there was a strange smell on his body, which drowned the smell of smoke. However, Antonio was right. Kristen could not smell the smoke. Marco had no choice but to stand at the vent and wait for the smoke to be dissipated before returning to the ward.
After walking a distance, Antonio instructed Jill, “Later, give the fake medical report to Marco.”
Antonio promised to hide it for Kristen, so he had prepared this fake report a day ago.
Jill asked, “But will Marco believe it?” After all, Kristen had vomited so much blood before and had even issued a notice of the critical condition.
No matter how Jill thought about it, she couldn’t imagine what kind of person would believe such a report.
“If Marco cares about Kristen, he will investigate. But if he doesn’t care, he will believe it.” Antonio explained.
Jill nodded as if she understood. After arriving at the office, she took a pile of reports and went back to the intensive care unit.
…
Marco was ready to go back. Just as he was about to open the door, Jill called him from behind.
“Sir, please wait.”
Marco turned around and looked at Jill who ran up to him panting. His eyes moved down and finally stopped at the documents in her hand.
“Sir, these are the medical reports for your wife.”
Marco was stunned. He paused for a moment before taking them. He flipped through two pages and suddenly stopped. He saw nothing except the “stomach bleeding” column of her illness.
Jill carefully glanced at the emotions on Marco’s face and saw that he had been staring at the column of “stomach bleeding.” She suddenly wanted to slip away.
“Doesn’t she get stomach cancer? Why isn’t there any relating data on the report?” Marco asked.
Jill smiled awkwardly and explained, “Your wife has no stomach cancer…”
“No stomach cancer? She is lying to me.” Marco’s expression did not change, but in his deep and cold eyes, there seemed to be a boundless chill spreading from within, making the others scared.
Faced with Marco’s questioning, Jill felt as if she was being stared at by a fierce beast. Jill’s legs were a little weak, but she forced herself to stay where she was. She was nervous and nodded hurriedly.
“This is your wife’s intention. You can go and ask her yourself.” Jill said and glanced at the door beside her. She thought of Kristen’s pale face and then looked at Marco’s fierce gaze. Jill could not help but remind, “But at that time, her situation was really dangerous. Otherwise, we wouldn’t have asked you to sign the notice of the critical condition.”
Marco did not listen to her at all. He was sure that Kristen and the hospital lied to him. She did not have stomach cancer at all.
Marco twisted the reports into a ball with his full strength, turning them into waste paper.
