Marco put down his suitcase. He went downstairs and saw Kristen sitting in her seat drinking soup.
Though the two plates in front of her were filled with food, Brenda bowed her head and put her hands on her knees.
Brenda said excitedly when she saw Marco, “Marco, come over here.”
Marco nodded and sat next to Brenda. He picked up his knife and fork and looked at the food on his plate. Then Marco frowned and looked at Kristen. After that, he even suspected that Kristen did it on purpose.
Marco didn’t want to eat the food.
In addition, Kristen had stomach problems. The doctor told Kristen not to eat spicy food, but she never listened.
Brenda knew what Marco meant, so she glanced at Kristen and smiled as she ate.
Marco was very picky about his food. He didn’t want to eat the food at this moment, but Kristin didn’t notice anything.
Marco said with annoyance, “Have you forgotten what the doctor said? Can you eat these?”
Just as he finished, not only Brenda but also Kristen was stunned. They had expected Marco to throw a fit and say that Kristen’s cooking was awful, and they hadn’t expected Marco to worry about Kristen’s stomach problems.
Kristen looked at Marco and smiled meaningfully, “I made the food, so of course, I’ll eat it.”
Kristin pointed to the oysters in front of Brenda and said, “Ms. Shapley, I made them especially for you. Welcome and congratulations on moving in.”
Brenda froze and bit her lower lip.
Kristin smiled and said to Marco, “Have one. They say it’s good for men.”
Kristin hinted at something in a flattering tone.
Brenda clenched her fists and said softly, “Ms. Lawrence, I know you don’t want me to move in. But you didn’t have to do it on purpose.”
Kristen smiled and asked Brenda, “What did I do?”
Brenda pointed to the plate in front of her and said, “These are not very everyday dishes. It doesn’t matter to me, but…”
Kristen looked at Brenda.
Brenda hesitated for a moment and explained in a gentle voice, “Marco doesn’t like to eat these. He likes vegetables and he has a very light taste. He doesn’t like seafood, especially if it’s not cooked. If Ms. Lawrence wants, I can write a list of foods he loves.”
Brenda looked at Kristin smugly. After that, Kristin smiled and said, “You mean the food I prepared today wasn’t good enough?”
Brenda nodded.
“I see,” Kristen said. She smiled and served a bowl of soup. After that, she stood up and dumped the plate of oysters into the trash.
Kristin’s fingers were stained with oil. Afterward, she slowly wiped her slender fingers with a napkin. Kristin smiled gracefully and looked at Brenda’s pale face.
“Since you don’t like the food, you can cook something yourself. I’m sure Marco would like the food Ms. Shapley makes.”
