In this city, summer and winter were especially short. It was spring now. Warm and bright sunlight came flooding into the ward.
Marco arrived at the hospital at two o’clock. After asking the nurses, he went straight to the ward with an angry face. The medical staff passing by looked at him warily, afraid of being hit for no reason, which Marco ignored completely.
Marco kicked the door open. His malicious eyes fell on Kristen, checking carefully if there were any new injuries.
He walked up and grabbed Kristen by the collar, running his eyes from her lips to her neck. It looked as if he found Kristen was cheating on him.
Kristen knew what was in his mind, and she couldn’t care less about his thoughts. She pressed her lips tightly and felt Marco loosen his grip slightly.
Kristen mocked, “Is it good enough for you?”
Marco released Kristen. He looked back at the chair behind him and sat down. “Kristen, didn’t I tell you to wait for me?”
Kristen wondered bitterly, “Wait to die on the balcony?”
Kristen kept silent, which made Marco a little displeased. He moved on, “How did you come to the hospital?”
“I fainted. Antonio sent me here.”
Marco sneered, “You are too weak. Don’t tell me you have some sort of strange illness?”
Kristen became disillusioned when she heard Marco’s mean words.
Marco did not care about her at all, so he did not know every time she spat out blood, she was drawing nearer to her death.
“Marco, you handcuffed me on the balcony. Have you ever thought that the handcuffs will abrade my veins and I may bleed to death?
Marco felt as if his heart was stung by something, which was not very painful but made him uncomfortable. His face clouded over.
Kristen stared at Marco, whom she had loved deeply for so many years. Whenever he was a little nicer to her, she would be willing to do anything for him.
It was said that there was always a return to pay. However, what did she get after she had done so much for Marco? She was diagnosed with stage IV stomach cancer. She was forced to kneel on the broken glass. She was handcuffed on the balcony and got wet in the rain.
She forced herself to remove Marco from her heart and then her heart was empty.
Being a little absent-minded, Kristen asked in a hoarse voice, “Brenda and I have the same blood type. If I was going to bleed to death, would you ask her to donate blood to me?”
Marco had never thought about this situation. However, Brenda was in poor health and had coagulation disorders. He couldn’t allow her to take such a risk.
Kristen thought bitterly, “Why did I ask such a question to put myself in an embarrassing situation? I am nothing compared to Brenda in Marco’s heart.”
They had been married for so many years, so she knew clearly what Marco was thinking. Kristen said with a self-mocking smile, “Marco, do you think I am a person who will never get sick or die? And you can torture me as you pleased.”
Kristen’s eyes were moist, full of sadness. She took a deep breath and suppressed the pain in her heart, speaking in a quivering voice, “You don’t need to answer. I know I am nothing in your heart. Marco, would you feel a little pity if I died one day?
“On the day when I was sent into the emergency room, did you ever think that I would die inside? Did you ever think that you would have gotten a notice of death rather than a notice of the critical condition?”
